Stilford Professional ll Ergonomic Extra Heavy Duty Mesh Chair Black - $249 @ Officeworks

780

I have seen a lot of posts for ergonomic chairs recently. I prefer to buy mine from Officeworks as they offer excellent after sales service/warranty support.
Good luck getting equivalent service at some of those other online only stores….

Stilford is an Officeworks only brand in Australia. Quality is reasonable, and warranty is outstanding (in this case 15 years - it says 10 on the web site but 15 years on the box)

This baby is on clearance, so your local Officeworks might have a lot or none.

Officeworks stock checker is your friend - https://ow.c0r3.xyz/
Officeworks Product Code:
JBPROFM2BK

NOTE: This is a clearance item. It was originally $399 and is currently $249.
As stock dwindles the price will fall - most likely to $179, then $149, then $99. If you are lucky the final dregs will go instore for $49!

INSTORE ONLY ITEM. NOT AVAILABLE FOR ONLINE DELIVERY DUE TO LOW STOCK.

However how quickly that happens from here I don't know.
Based on the stock available, some stores have hundreds of these - sometimes stores with only 1 or 2 will drop them lower than the web site price just to clear them and free up space.

This chair has a weight limit of 160kg so most of us should be OK to use it. Some alternative chairs only cater for lightweights under 110kg.

The Professional ll Mesh Chair is suitable for using for over 8 hours at a time making it perfect for keeping in your workspace. The chair and back can both be tilted and locked, the armrests can be heightened or lowered and the seat can slide making it easy to adjust to suit your needs.

I previously had a Kennedy (https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/kennedy-hi…) - but the PU leather just doesn't last.
Have just picked up this Stilford today and after getting the position adjustments just right I am pretty happy with it.

  • This chair comes with a 15 year warranty for added peace of mind.
  • This chair is recommended for users 170cm or taller.
  • It's suitable for 8+ hours use making it ideal for keeping in your workspace.
  • It has a weight capacity of 160 kg.
  • This chair has a strong metal base with a fabric seat and breathable mesh back.
  • The chair is height, tilt and lock, seat slide, armrest height and lumbar support adjustable so you'll be able to find a position that's comfortable for you.
  • It's been AFRDI Blue Tick and Green Tick certified.
  • AFRDI Green Tick certified meaning it has been manufactured sustainably and in an environmentally friendly manner.
  • This chair takes approximately 30 minutes to assemble (super easy, more like 15 minutes).
  • This chair has a black design for timeless appeal.
  • This chair is suitable for commercial use.
  • When I compared this chair to others I found that the width of 535mm was a good size for my barge arse and thunder thighs. A lot of chairs are narrower.

Sold only at Officeworks, Stilford is the dependable choice for essential office supplies that are of great quality and value, and is designed for use in the medium business, by the sole trader and the work-from-home freelancer.

    Reviews don't look good.

    • +20

I agree they don't, but I am sitting on one right now. I think a fair few of the complaints are from idiots who dont know how to assemble it or adjust it properly (like didn't read the instruction manual).

One feature I really like is the ability to slide the seat base forward or back - never had that in the last 20 chairs I have used. The guy complaining the arm rests are too far forward obviously didn't use that feature.

Pretty sure if you buy it and think it's crap you can return to Officeworks within 30 days.

I am only a few hours in, but at this stage I am liking it.

I doubt it will last 15 years, but Officeworks will honour the warranty - if it's discontinued when it breaks you are likely to get money back.

is it better than the Version 1 here which has better reviews? - https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/profession…

I tried out Version 1 at OW but didnt like the arm rest due to how concave it was in the middle. Also when the base was tilted, it tilted too much to the front (downwards), but not much towards the back(upwards) - at best it became flat at the most upwards position. Is it the same in Version II?

If these problems were resolved in version 2, I will pick one up.

Also the stock checker says its in stock at Cairns, but cant see it on OW website when Cairns store is selected. Whats the deal? Thanks.

Edit: Never mind, the tilt is still the same with this chair as V1. Also the armrest wont go low enough for me to be able to fully slide under the desk without the armrest hitting the desk. Will skip this. https://youtube.com/watch?v=rH5SPznE3ag&feature=share&si=EMS…

      • I think I've only brought 1 office chair from Officeworks over 10 years, and every time it failed within the lengthy warranty, I've had the price credited towards a replacement chair of whatever they had in stock.

Basically, as long as officeworks maintains its excellent decade-long warranty, your 15-year chair can be multiple chairs.

There were some QC issues but I got replacement parts from Officeworks and it's been great since. For the money I think it's worth a try.
PS: I'm sure there are QC issues with other online only items, and after sales support would be very difficult unless you shell out for somethings uber pricey.

Be careful trusting the description on OW's site. I bought a Haworth Zody from there some time ago having seen it advertised with a seat tilt function, but after assembling it, it was missing. Ended up returning it and going to Bad Backs.

    • +2

Other than the warranty actually being 15 years, not 10, it looks pretty accurate based on my experience.

You can definitely adjust everything it says you can. Seat tilt and seat slide both work, as do backrest height and seat height.

      • For this one people must just be sure to get the Professional 2 and not the Professional 1 as they look very similar.

    • +1

We use the Zody at work and they can definitely tilt.

      • +1

The model I got from Officeworks could not. Looking at Haworth's site, it's an option, not a standard feature.

        • Fair enough. It was just funny to me because I had shown 2 people at work how to use the tilt function that day.

We've had them for years and I love them.

          • @whitlam: Everything else about it seemed great, but it worked out best in the end as I got a cheaper (~$200 less) but just as good chair from Bad Backs.

    • +3

Yep they are great value. I am happy with the Pro II due to it being:
      - 160kg vs 130kg weight limit
      - 15 vs 8 year warranty
      - 535mm vs 490mm wide (wider the better for my big butt)

Put the money toward a second hand Herman Miller Aeron

    • +9

Not sure about the second hand price of the Aeron's, but new you could get 10 of these for 1 Aeron.

Aeron I am sure is a great chair, but its like comparing a Kia Stinger to Lamborghini…

      • That may be an unfair comparison for the stinger.
How about a commodore or falcon vs a Lamborghini.

    • +4

      second hand

and bring home the germs embedded into the fabric from being used God-knows-where…

      • Use bleach

      • You could buy it new and still be ahead.

  • I paid like $300+ for an office chair from office works and the main support beam snapped clean in half and nearly killed me after about two or three years. After that I went for something decent (not office works) and it's lasted 10 years. I don't think office works has quality office chairs, you might think it's fine now but probably broken in another 2 years.

    • Ikea?

      • Where my new one from? No a local furniture shop. It cost about a grand, but as it's lasted 10 years I'm ahead. Also the officeworks chair had nasty cheap plastic wheels that ruin floors

      • Lol I've had three ikea chairs break on me, and they were always uncomfortable after four hours. And now I'm using one of the chairs on this deal and I'm reasonably happy with it. If it eventually breaks I guess it's aeron time …

    • +1

      That sounds traumatic.

With a 15 year warranty, as long as I survive it breaking I'll be able to have it repaired or get my money back for a long time to come.

Such breakages are why I always prefer high maximum weight limit chairs. They are generally engineered to hold much bigger weights and therefore less likely to break in the fashion you are describing.

      • probably a good idea about the weight thing. I'm sure I wasn't over the limit on this other one, whatever that was.

    • Which chair did you go for?

Edit: Nvm, you have already posted it.

    • And you'd get a new one under warranty lol

I bought the Stilford fabric chair for $179 a couple of weeks ago.

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/profession…

Feels pretty damn solid and the reviews on the website are a lot better.

    • -1

I am pretty sure the main difference between the two is the back (mesh or fabric). The chair mechanism and other specs look similar but not the same.

At $179 it's a great buy. They just didn't have stock at Kotara where I got my chair today.

Still available for online delivery too which the mesh backed one isn't… Pity delivery to me is $69.95

  • -3

Officeworks has to have some of the worst in-store customer service in Australia. You’re lucky if the high school kid behind the counter looks up from their phone while ringing up your sale

    • -1

In queue today there was a girl dressed like a stripper in gym gear. She was hot and the guy serving certainly was looking up….

  • +4

Beware - these are pretty terrible. The back rest doesn't line up with the screws and ends up being impossible to fit the back rest to the seat. I returned it after much frustration and before I could say what was wrong, the Officeworks employee said, "let me guess…" and described the issue perfectly.

  • +1

This is another brand you won't go wrong with. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/616625

Good quality and after sales service/ warranty. Quite popular among OzBargainers but haven't seen $199 deal recently unless I missed it.

    • Thanks for the suggestion. Will check it out.

    • +1

I asked them and apparently they're planning to do a Black Friday special which might be worth keeping an eye on.

I am yet to find a mesh chair of any type that isn't complete and utter aids.

  • +1

Actually got my Ergohuman Plus Elite v2 from Temple and Webster online it had a small blemish but functionally chair was perfectly fine contacted them and I thought I was going to get fobbed off or just be offered like a $20 voucher or something but to my shock they ended up sending out another chair and told me to dispose of the old one as I please…so I wouldn't say no chance of good service online haha.

    • would you sell it? i am in bris

      • +1

Sorry mate ended up gifting it to my parents they needed a new office chair as well.

        • no worries good one!

    • Is the ergohuman worth the cost? I'm so used to office chairs with a big cushion for seating that it looks like a very huge change with that ergohuman chair. I don't want to spend 750.00 just to find that I don't like it :(

      • +1

I got an Ergohuman Plus Elite v2 about 3 yrs ago and very happy with it. You can get them with either a mesh seat, fabric seat or leather seat depending on which model you choose.

      • +1

Yea mate, YMMV of course but it was my first mesh chair too and I love it; sitting on it feels like, for a lack of better term “suspended in the air”. I have the recline unlocked but increased the tension of the recline so I can be upright or lean back to however I feel like at any time.

It’s often on sale too I think picked up mine for ~$530 IIRC (sale plus commercial account) last year.

  • The budget chair for the big & tall: 160kg weight limit and 58cm seat height should fit people up to about 205cm

  • I know it is incomparable, but will the desky pro+ or ergotune better than this?

    • +1

The desky pro+ is super comforable but the armrests feel like garbage, the ergotune seems okayish from sitting in a friends but i don't trust influencer marketing.

  • +1

Bought this Buro Vela 2 days ago, which is on clearance - Link here. Quite happy with it. Would have preferred the high back, but that's sold out. Odd thing tho - the seat doesn't fasten onto the hydraulic cylinder. It just sits on it. Designed that way. shrug

Will wait for the Stilford to drop a bit more and pounce :). Need a chair for me this time :).

  • When you lock the backrest does it actually lock solid? We have officeworks 'leather' chairs (not sure which model) that were bought by someone that's never worked in an office. The chair still rocks a bit in the locked position. It is shiiiiiiiiit.

  • Meh product deal again on ozb ! Suggest go to professional store and not waste money on profanity . But I realise budget !

    • +3

suggest where then? officeworks seems to have wide range . professional store sounds like a salesman letting you sit on expensive chairs and getting a nice slice of the pie

  • +3

Herman Miller Aeron chair snobs calling these crap chairs…

    • Well Officeworks never sold anything remotely ergonomic until recently. Which, for a place that stocks "office supplies" is a pretty good indicator to assume whatever they flog now is all trash.

  • +1

Got this chair during covid lockdown from officeworks as part of my wfh setup. It was recommended by my former company at a discount. This chair is definitely not for petite users or those below 170 cm height. I used for 2 years and it strained my back and neck. For lumbar support I need to lean all the way back, and my feet will be floating in the air ( I am about 167 cm, but the base seat is way too wide). The hydraulic cylinder doesnt hold long and tends to sink after few times of sitting on it. Also I felt the build quality is quite bad, it squeaks and doesnt look solid. This chair is huge and heavy, no doubt. Recently I switched to an Ikea gaming chair; cheaper, lighter and definitely much better for my lumbar and neck.
Avoid Officeworks unless you are looking for bulk chair supply for your office, or you are a big tall person; they are overpriced but cheap quality in my opinion.

  • +1

I sat in one of these AT officeworks and it was wonky and awful, if they can't put it together properly why would I buy it?

  • Hi Guys,

I am looking for an office/gaming chair around the $250 mark for WFH purposes. I am on the fence between the One X range of chairs from Costco vs the chairs from Ikea. Can anyone here shed some light on which one I should go for ?

I work from home 3 days a week and it is 8 hour sessions daily.

    Thanks in advance

    • I would suggest to visit the store and try out the chairs…. height, weight, lumbar comfort and other factors need to be considered if you plan to get one for home use in long term. I got this chair delivered after an online health assessment by my company (I didn't manage to try it prior), and it was a bad decision from my end. Good thing about Ikea is they have all the chair models on display. In officeworks, only a few models are available for you to try on… others either out of stock or in another branch, etc…

  • how do we know if the price has reduce futher from $249? do we have to go to each individual stores and check?

  • I bought one a few years ago at full price and it's holding up well and is still comfortable. The main issue I have is the lumbar support sits away from the back and doesn't do anything without adding some support. Larger people I know said it isn't that comfortable so I recommend actually sitting in the chair before you buy it.

  • is that stock checker legit? i ask because the officeworks website says no in store stock but the stock checker says there's heaps

    • The bottom of the page says "Stock levels from: July 24 2022 05:47"

  • Just went and got the last one of these from Aspley. Probably the best chair I've had and I like it from what I can tell so far, especially from what I'm upgrading from. I don't know how it compares to other chairs in the same price range.

The same chair but without the "2" was more expensive and lots in stock. There was one for $300 because it had a scratch on it. Why would the 2nd version be cheaper even without the sale? (at the store it said down from $300 while the non-2 was $330)
