  • Saw this post and immediately checked the store online - it is out of stock atm

    • Still got whole week, hopefully they restock.

    • avail my local stores - so YMMV

  • Better to put in oven, so yummy

    • +2

Airfryer even better if you have one

      • I have but the duck is just bigger T_T

      • +3

Isn't it too "wet" for an airfryer?
I bake these with veggies or spuds underneath to soak up all the delicious fat lol

        • Agreed air fry is just going to waste all the juice

        • depends what kind of airfryer you have. I have a tray as the basket (non-netted), so works well to keep the juices in

  • Would this taste as nice in airfryer or oven?

    • +5
      • Thanks 👍 will do 😁

      • Straight from the fridge into the air fryer?

        • +1

Yes is sensational. Throw in some (cut in half) button mushrooms at the same time (or half way through depends how much you like your shrooms cooked). Will never do them in the regular oven again.

  • what price was it previously before crazy inflation?

    • +1

$7 when half price. So price hike isn't not too bad considering other things that have gone up about 20-30%

This is an excellent product! Long use by date and can be kept in the fridge. Neutral flavour so you can use it for Asian or European-style dishes.

There is a decent amount of fat in the pack you can reserve for roasting vegetables. There is also a gelatinous stock you can use as a base for sauce.

I always separate the fat and stock. Then roast the legs with a little oil and use the stock to make a sauce or add to a soup depending on the recipe. The fat you either roast something in or you can freeze it for another time.

Imagine noodle soup with shredded roast duck or a whole roasted portion on a puree of pumpkin, duck fat potatoes, roasted fennel and a rich sauce.

It's also really hard to overcook these things!

    • +3

Hard to overcook especially since they are already cooked !!

We normally do all the roast veges with the Duck fat then thrown the Duck legs in and give them 20-25 mins in the oven to heat up and crisp up the skin a bit. Sometimes sprinkle some sesame seeds on the top.

    Time to stock up again!

It's a shame that it's only the one flavour on special but at this price I can't complain.

As others have said, these are great in the airfryer and the remaining fat helps cook excellent roast potatoes and chips!

Do they ever have duck breast on special at half price?

I need to get my hands on some crispy breasts!

    • don't go there girlfriend

Probably the first year ducks at this farm might have got a small chance to see water due to the flooding in northern Victoria. Have some compassion this is a cruel way to raise animals!

  • Wish they did plain raw quarters so I could confit them myself.

    • +2

Just buy them from the market?

      • Sure, I’ll just make a 40 minute round trip for one ingredient, super convenient

  • I never see these in stock when on special.

  • +1

Love it. Normally use it in this recipe. It's from Valencia, and it's a very traditional rice. Yum!

if I recall - crisped up pretty nice and satisfactory in my air fryer - so ima buy one agin

Thanks OP and thanks to others too for their air fryer and other recommendations. Always thought of trying this out but never did. Hopefully, this week!

All this talk of extra stock and fat… so I'm meant to separate off the goop before chucking it in the air fryer? Chuck a pan of some sort under the bird?

Local WW had 4, and no half price sign yet. Scanned up fine

    • +3

Once you open it you'll see you can lift the portions out pretty easily while it's cold and the fat and jelly/stocky bits are pretty separate. Too goopy for an airfryer if you chucked it all in.

Do that and rub a little of the fat on top of the duck to help crispy it.

I'd describe myself as an advanced amateur cook - I get nerdy about the awesome leftover goop. You could make a simple but intense sauce by reducing a couple of table spoons of red or white wine with a bay leaf, mix in the jelly and a teaspoon of tomato paste. A couple of teaspoons of butter just before you serve to soften the edges and bam… restaurant quality!

I'd feel insulted if I purchased it at that much… Gone to Coles butchers for chicken, until I feel insulted going there too after January 2023.

  • Anyone just got a notification for $10 or $15 off next delivery/ booth pick up? (Could be % not $)
Didn't have the time to take a screenshot.

  • +1

Just got a few of these, use by date is April 2023.

Should you actually keep them in the fridge for that long?

Can you freeze them, or would that change the flavour/gesture?

    • +1

We freeze it and didn't notice any difference when reheating.
