Kogan Credit Card - Your Experience?

Hey OzBers,

Wondering if anyone has any experience using Kogan credit card points to make purchases at Kogan.

I've seen people report difficulty with the application process at Kogan, and that is giving me plenty of pause, but the card essentially offers a no-annual-fee rewards card with 1% return on spend, so depending on how restrictive the terms are, it's tempting to grasp the nettle and try my luck.

I'm primarily wondering what restrictions there are on the kinds of 'eligible items' you can use your Kogan points to buy. Is it just their branded electronics etc. or can points be used to buy grocery items/alcohol etc. that are offered by other sellers through Kogan?

Also, the Pay with Points on selected transactions sounds appealing, but can anyone shed some light on the types of transactions that are selected? The T&Cs say "You may use Your Rewards Points to pay for certain selected transactions that We present to You via SMS, Kogan Money Credit Cards Online and the Kogan Money Credit Cards Mobile App." Do they present you with this option often? Have you found it a useful feature?

I haven't seen much discussion of this card online, which itself is a pretty big red flag. However, I'm really more interested in people's experiences of using the card and the rewards points rather than people's experiences of the application process.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

It's Kogan. No more needs to be said.

Is that your experience of using the credit card or just general vibe of the retailer?

      • Credit card is issued by NAB (used to be Citi Bank but they sold to NAB). No difference from whole lots other under NAB. It's a no fee, no insurance card that gives you Kogan First subscription and rewards point can be used for anything on Kogan website.

Kogan service itself for me hasn't been that bad. They regularly ship the preorder late but you can ask for $10 coupon. On plus side, they replaced my Dreame V10 2 months out of warranty (14 months after receiving it, they have 12 months warranty), and the replacement is brand new with a revised carpet head instead of the all purpose head on the old version. Compared to another chinese vacuum cleaner deal on eBay that the seller disappeared after 6 months and lots of people having dead battery, that's a lot better.

        • Thank you! Very reassuring to hear that! :)

One of the best fee free cards, if not the best.

    • Pleased to hear that! Are you able to mention any restrictions on using points?

        No restriction as I know.

It blows my mind that people still want to do business with Kogan..

    • Kogan CC has sth to do with Kogan, but that's not it. The rewards pts are still accured slowly. With $12k per year spend on anything that a VISA card reaches, you only get $120 to spend on Kogan. People easily get the wrong feeling that I will have to spend thousands on Kogan.

    I had a great experience.
Took it out when it first came out and received $500 credit
took it out a second time and received $400 credit - paid for my robotic vacuum

Would i purchase anything else from kogan?
    no
Would i happily take out another card from them?
    Most definitely.

    • Sounds very good! Do you remember how it worked when it came to using your rewards points?

      • Just be careful that you lose the reward dollars when you cancel the card so make sure you spend the money first.

I think they just ask you to link your membership account and the cashback appears a week after hitting the criteria.

I wouldn't use it purely as a rewards card though. Only if they're offering $400+ dollars in credit.
        Other cards offer better returns.

    • How did you manage to get the credit twice? I thought kogan doesn't even have cool down period?

      • When they first brought it out it was 12 months.
then when they realised what the churners were doing they made it a once off.

        Way to ruin our fun.

  • Loving my card, interest free for 14 monthe, no balance transfer fees. Allows me keep money on the home loan.

No idea how to use my kogan credits yet. I havent gotten my $400 credit yet, been 3 weeks since meeting criteria

Card is amazing. I use it as my daily when not churning through credit cards.

You cannot churn on this as there is no cooldown, but there is no annual fee so no issues with keeping it anyway.

I get the occasional item from kogan when it is posted here and its all been great. Free kogan first as well for as long as you keep the card.

    • Great to hear! Have you come across any restrictions on items you can use your points on? Or is everything available with points as far as you know?

I got the card a few years back when they had the $500 credit offer. Bought myself a shiny iPad at the time. I'm not flying often so velocity/Qantas points don't interest me. I've found the effective 1% in kogan credit to be one of the best rate of returns available on a credit card, particularly on a no fee card. As long as you can find something worth buying on the extensive kogan marketplace (and there is a lot to choose from), it's a great value card option. Only downsides I have found is despite the kogan first membership advertising free shipping, there are a lot of excluded postcodes, of which mine is one, so I only tend to make purchases when they have a sitewide free shipping offers.
Upsides include that points are instant on purchase in my experience and seem to also be given for rates/insurance/gift card purchases, which are sometimes excluded with other cards.
I have a big tax bill this year so looking forward to see if I'll also earn points on ATO payments. Will let you know in 14 days.

Kogan => 10% off Coles Prepaid MasterCard => ATO

I think you may not earn pts by using it directly.

    • Thank you, a very helpful response!

Pretty sure you can use the points for anything on Kogan. I haven't ran into any restrictions. Also you get the Kogan first membership that gives you discounts and free shipping on many items.

In short, it's a pretty good card. Probably the best no annual fee card if you're happy to buy things from Kogan.

    • Awesome, thank you for responding Very helpful!

Agreed, it's been great. Got it when they first ran the free $500 credit promo and never looked back since. Points accrued can be used on almost all items, including 3rd party sellers not just Kogan.

Also, the Kogan First free membership is very handy for free shipping.

Finally, not sure if it's made a difference, but I've never had any issues with refunds on items whenever something wasn't quite right.

edit Oops, just noticed I pretty much echoed the comment directly above mine :)

Thank you for responding! Very pleased to hear your experience.

I wonder if I could be lucky enough that they have a $500 credit offer coming up in the next few weeks/couple of months :)

      • I haven't seen $500 promo that often, more regularly would be $400 I think which is still pretty generous as long as you have something useful to purchase on kogan.com
