Looking for an affordable birthday dinner location in Sydney CBD

It's my brother's birthday coming up, and I'm looking for a well-reviewed and affordable (but not sit on a stool and pour your own damn water affordable) place to bring him.

It would just be a few people, so booking a function menu isn't an option.

He's 22, turning 23… his birthday is on thursday. Help!

'Affordable' is kinda vague, might be better to give us an idea of how much you'd like to spend per person?

Anyhoo, check this site out - http://www.agendacity.com/tables/search-index

Has a number of decent restaurants you can book, if you use their service you get 30% off the bill which is quite good. Catch is it costs $10 to book through their service, but you'll save more than that. But this being Ozbargain, I of course have a promo code that'll make your first booking free - JUNEFREE. Worked for me when I went to the Ocean Room a couple weeks ago!

  • Does he like meat? Could go Churrasco for Brazilian bbq.

  • Terrazas was offering a $33/person tapas feast midweek on these forums a few days ago: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/72970 Don't know if $33 is your idea of affordable.

  • Lebanon & Beyond, randwick

  • The problem is the good places don't usually take bookings! To name a few: Home Thai, Din Tai Fung (shanghai dumplings + other dishes), Mamak (good malaysian food) to name a few.

If you get there early enough (before 7ish?) I would recommend one of those places :)

If you need to book you could try Holy Basil (also Thai) - which is in the Shark Hotel on Liverpool St. Not the greatest location, but ok food and quite cheap! If you go there, you have to try the fried ice cream…it's awesome!

  • I have done the following and it is good (hope the offer is still avaliable): http://www.lowenbrau.com.au/whatson/detail/31/your_birthday_…

  • Jimmy's Recipe (malaysian) - the galleries - 500 george st
