    Chicken tendies?

    Heavy breathing intensifies…

    • +6

Gimme gimme Chicken Tendies, be they crispy, or from Wendy's.

    • +2

      Nope, bones

  • +3

Might be difficult to find stock after the previous $2.80 deal.

Visited 4 stores over the weekend and shelves were empty (for both flavour, which I'm assuming is due to online order substitution).

    • Saw stock already at my local today, weirdly the Nashville had the "was $15 Now $14" signage whereas the Louisiana didn't mention it. Got me thinking, I don't know if I've ever seen these $15.

  • Are these an OZB favourite or something? Are they boneless? Any idea the country of origin…?

    • +4

      Are they boneless?

      Portions with bones.

Any idea the country of origin…?

Produced and packed in New Zealand using ingredients from multiple origins.

      • +1

It says on the packet 100% NZ Chicken.

        • Made with 100% NZ chicken, though only 66% chicken.

  • +9

FYI - these are also Halal certified as per their website. For all the Halal bros out there..

My wife eats Halal only and this is a go-to movie night snack for us

    • Great, thanks for the info it's really helpful.

    • Yep Tegal is all halal. We love it

    • -3

Thanks, wait why don't you also eat halal?

      • +1

Why can't it be framed as, why doesn't she also eat non-halal? - Coz he respects her way of life.
        I guess respect is two-way.
        Just a thought, no offense.

      • +3

I just simply don't fuss over the certifications, but also respect that my wife chooses to follow her belief system. Our kids have a free will to choose whichever direction they want to head into once they are of the age.

    • Good to know…. Cheers …

  • +12

the eneloops of Fried Chicken! Thanks OP.

  • +10

    Excluded the best one? Sigh

    • +2

agree, the burgers are the better option.

    • +1

Went to multiple stores across a few days in Canberra and none had stock them

      • couldn't live up to your name !!

  • +4

    burgers or bust

  • Tegel Take Outs 1kg Chicken Portions is always on special for $7, they really need to lower the price.

    • $7 seems to be a solid price for these tbh

      • Got neg for pointing out a fact but yes it's a good price.

        • +1

They probably wouldn’t sell as well @ $7 RRP. Like a rug shop trying to sell a decent priced rug without having 6000% off.

    • They were 1/2 * 1/2 on clearance if you seen the post last week.

  • +1

Finally I can afford to put salad on my plate and not eat again.

  • -6

Excludes Burgers? What a bunch of cheap arseholes.

    • +3

I suspect they’re having restocking issues, otherwise they would’ve been included in the upcoming promo
I visited many Woolies across Canberra across few days and none had the burger in stock

      • Yeah burgers are all I wanted too. Checked 3 stores on Lake Macquarie NSW. All empty.

    • +10

What a bunch of cheap arseholes

You have just described this entire site lol

  • +1

    66% chicken ????? WTF

    • +3

Yes, and the other 33% is salt

      • 1% nutrition?

    • +3

66% is pretty good lol, they make them all breading and filler to cut costs now. Steggles frozen chicken fingers are 38% chicken, nuggets are 45% lol.

  • +1

I don't think the Tegal burgers actually exist. It's just a hype to get me frantically seatching for KFC equivalent at Woolies and the buying a heap of other stuff I don't need.

  • Not complaining by any means but these seem to be half price every month? Still got heaps of burgers from last time they were on sale

  • Are those spicy? Can't eat anything spicy.

    • +4

Louisiana is more like KFC Original whereas Nashville is more like KFC H&S.

      • +3

        Thanks good to know :)

  • grabbed Tegel chicken over the weekend, put it in the air fryer for 40 mins at 180 degrees, and voila, cooked perfectly, and tastes similar to KFC H&S, although less on the Spicier side.

    • what size is your air fryer and which one I am trying to decide on which one to buy now

      • Kmart one. Can fit only 4-5 pieces at a time

        • how many L

          • @AlienC: 3.2 L. Do get a bigger one if you can

            • @mkh1991: what size do you think is a good size to cook a whole bag in one go or say 1.5kg to 2kg of chips

  • +1

$2.80 were quite good and portions are decent.

  • Bought 6 packets when it was on sale $2.80. So good

    • These aren't tendies. They've got bones in them.

    • reddit.com/r/tendies

  • Lots of deals on these lately. I wonder if they're running them out.

    • I suspect everyone wants the burgers & no one wants the pieces with bones.

So now, Tegel have a huge inventory of unsold stock of the boney pieces, which they're now desperately trying to get rid of, using these deals.

      • The bag of Nashville I bought a few weeks ago has a used by date of 22 Dec which seems pretty short - not that I care for frozen meat and I'm bound to use it by then.

        Didn't know about the burgers!

  • What happened to good old SFC

    • +1

Civil war. Seperate factions. Whoever commandeered the burgers was bang out of line tho.

    • Slow sales, and probably a reluctance to pay for shelf space by the Distributor.

  • +3

I actually found these to be very salty when I last tried them

    • +1

Yeah. Even the burgers are quite salty. Need to be light with the condiments otherwise it ruins them.

    • +1

I just had them today and damn…you are spot on regarding the salt content. It is way too salty.

  • Have had these a few times and checked the origin as I'm always suss about stuff "made in NZ" being a cover for cheap awful crap from China. They say 100% NZ chicken. We have plenty of stock of Louisiana but never seen Nashville at my local Woolies, possibly coz of the older demographic. My wife loves it, plenty of oil in the base of the air fryer after I cook them. I prefer the wing bits from Aldi, but the Tegel is much cheaper at $7/kg pack. I'm not too sure the meat to bone/breading ratio is too good but they're quick and easy with a bit of salad for an easy meal. I'm unlikely to buy them at full price though.

  • I cooked the whole bag at once in my air fryer as per the packet instructions yet some of the pieces came out quite wet/watery if that makes sense. They were all separated in the basket and would’ve had airflow around the whole chicken piece. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

    • How long did you cook them for? I find that 35-40 minutes is about right and give them a turn after 15 minutes.

      • 45 minutes at 180 but didn’t flip them

        • Put the temp up to 200 as well.

    • Had to bake them longer in the oven than advertised time as well, didn't brown as much as expected.

    • which air fryer and what size air fryer did you use

  • +1

Saw in our local Costco (Adelaide), Tegel Louisiana Style Chicken Portions in a 1.8kg bag for $17.99. I'm guessing they are the same as these and work out at $9.99 per kg. Might be a good alternative for some when these are not on special.

  • +1

I like Aldi's Southern Style chicken. Slightly more expensive, and not frozen.
