    Lol “factory authorised” sure

I used a cheap eBay $15 OBD2 Bluetooth adaptor and bought around $10 in credits to enable:
GTI style rev sweep on ignition
    Always on tail lights
    Dipping side mirror on reverse
Auto lock of doors (but maybe this was a standard option already)

Took a while to get it working but was pretty cool to do on my Audi A1.

    • Link for your eBay Purchase as I got a BMW X5 F15 2014 that I want to program some

    • Was this on iOS or android?

    • -2

Actually now that someone has mentioned it I can't remember if I used Carista or ObdEleven. My Bluetooth adaptor was not reliable though. I had two cheapies and I took a while to get working

  • Obdeleven has more features than the obd2 options. And as the ability to do long coding.

I use an obd2 with carista but it has limitations compared to what obdeleven can do

  • +2

I've had one of these for few years, comes in quite handy.

  • I also enabled fog light cornering lights which is pretty cool. I know lots of the VAG now have this standard.

I think if you have a GTI and some other models you actually get a lot of really cool features. It's a relatively cheap mod in the scheme of things

    Being that Carly

    • Likely has most (if not all) of the same functionality
    • Seems to be more widely adopted (haven't heard if this product until today, but have known about Carly for years)
    • Slightly cheaper (for the Premium package)
    • Doesn't appear to use a credit system (unlimited use)

I'd probably go for that instead if I was looking.

    • +3

Never heard of Carly but obdeleven is hugely popular for the vw/Audi people

OBDEleven is the better option for VAG cars. Lots of pre-set programming options in there to save messing around with coding options that are usually in German. For my Skoda Superb, there are over 60 one-touch programming options (some good examples - activating speed sign recognition, disabling electric tailgate chime, turning off the cruise control feature that stops you overtaking people on their left, remembering your previous seat heating/cooling setting, etc)

      • This would be so handy for our Kamiq, I'm sick of it bleating at me when I open the door when the engine is running, or the stupid "take a break" alert that scares the shit out of you when rolling down the hwy.

    • Okay upon further research, Carly requires an annual subscription, so if OBDeleven's tokens don't expire, it's likely the better pick. I stand corrected.

If you are good with technology. A $30 INPA cable, an old laptop and some free software and you have all the diagnostic capabilities required to service and/or modify your BMW. Definitely not for your average Joe.

    • Any pointers on the software?

      • If you are not prepared to do the research on INPA, NCSEXPERT etc on how to get it all working then you will definitely struggle to use them AND be at risk of damaging your vehicle. Options are limited on standard commercial products for a reason.

  • Would this void warranty?

    • No, because its factory authorised. Also, may depend on what modifications you make using the software.

    • +1

Depends what you're doing, these do have the capability to break programming of modules if you don't know what you're doing. But there's plenty of safe pre-programmed options in the app.

      • Think I might give it a miss, don’t think if it will give me anything interesting

I have a Golf GTI and bought this, its extremely good value for money for quality of life things. I removed the Accept on startup button for the maps which was so handy not having to press accept each time.
I changed the internal colours of the system as a bit of a gimmick but actually like it.

I got 100 credits when i bought it but 500 is heaps, you can also code manually.

Well worth it in my opinion for what i used it for.

    • I wonder how far 100 (or 500) credit would go? Micro-transactions feel like a gimmick to suck more money out of buyers…

      • +1

I have an Audi S3 and the vast majority of the one-touch apps I have are 10 credits each. Applying any change (whether to turn on or off) is charged. I did see a few apps that are 100 credits (traffic sign recognition, mirror link/video in motion) but they can be done manually for free if you know how.

100 is plenty, really, unless you want to experiment a ton.

  • Also just a note, buy the next gen obdeleven pro with 12 month pro plan from ecs tuning in USA and with shipping and taxes comes to a little more than this (was less until the US $ strengthened)

  • Can you do same things with something like this? https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07N66TTQG/

    • +2

No. That is a scan tool not a programmer

  • What's a standard feature cost in credits? Eg how many features or tweaks can I do with 500?

    • +2

Hey, I replied with the costs in my app just above.

TLDR; 95% are 10 credits each. A few are 100 credits.

      • Thanks mate, missed that! Seems like 500 should be enough for 2 cars. We have a Passat & are upgrading the Kamiq to a Kodiaq shortly. This will be really handy!

  • At this price, why wouldn't you get vagcom?

    • Not manufacturer approved?

      • Lol, obd11 is not manufacturer approved. Vagcom is what actual workshops use, and doesn't require "credits" to do anything.

        • How come there's a bunch of third party sites saying it is approved / officially licenced by VAG & now BMW?

          • @Ham Dragon:

            bunch of third party sites

            There's your answer.

You think vag and BMW will be "yeah mate, just change everything up, even though it will bypass safety and emissions regulations in your country, lol, we totally sanction it".

Feel free to link any of your sources, and where they got the information that it is approved by vag and BMW. There are security access codes in some modules, to specifically limit them being changed, with the access code meant to only be available to dealers.

            • @brendanm: I think it's licensed as a scanning & diagnostic tool but perhaps not as a modbox, for the reasons you highlighted. I don't see any issue with using it, regardless if it's official/approved/authorised/endorsed/whatever if your car is out of warranty, moreso if you're just using it to tweak the UI or light settings etc

              • @Ham Dragon: Vcds does the same, but without having to buy credits. Up to you. I'd still like to see where vag and BMW have said that it's "licenced" for anything.

    • They can both do the same things and I don't want to use a laptop see comparison at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTeVaNEkic4&t=1591s

Hey just a heads up guys - If you search OBDeleven apk mod you will get all the premimum points for free

    • So, just buy the cheapest version and use alternative apps? What's the user experience like, as the OBDeleven app looks easy to use.

Edit: oh….it looks more like a non play store app. I'm not 100% how this would work. Care to quickly explain?

      • Yep - so search OBDeleven apk mod. Should be able to install the app and have access to the premimum content without having to pay anything. PM me if you need more info

        • +1

But do you need the genuine adaptor?

          • @0 0 0: Yep you need the actual device, but you wont have to pay for credits to install any of the mods
