    • I'm sure people have opinions on Gainward vs Gigabyte

      • They are pretty much identical, the only real difference maybe in the warranty.

Considering gainward left the australian market, there would be no manufacturer warranty for those cards.

        • +5

no manufacturer warranty for those cards.

Are you sure ? My understanding is that the retailer (techfast) still has to be compliant with Australian consumer laws.
Hence if you have an issue with Gainward cards, you go to techfast and they will be dealing with Gainward and not the consumer.
Happy to be corrected on this

          • @varunbabu008: What if techfast shutsdown?

            • @John Doh: Then you are out of luck and have no warranty.

            • @John Doh: This is an interesting question!

              I found this: https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/protecting-yourself/when-a…

Apparently, the insolvent buisness has to repay "secured creditors", like their bank, before "unsecured creditors", like their customers. This means a consumer may only get some or no money that they are owed.

You're allowed to chargeback with your bank if it's within the chargeback time limit.

Some states have a consumer protection fund to compensate consumers who lose money from insolvent buisnesses.

              • @deals4eels: Thanks mate for digging into this. Good to know that info.

        • Gainward Phantom Boost - 2.61Ghz
Gigabyte Gaming OC Boost - 2.535Ghz

Gigabyte is larger, reviews for the gainward phantom seem alright tho. Card trades blows with the FE edition. I know it's reputation being a cheaper quality card but seems like it's in the same tier as Gaming OC in regards to build quality.

          • @Jazza2400: MSI Afterburner is free, don't need to pay for factory OC.

          • @Jazza2400:

Sounds like you have been looking at reviews for the Phantom GS (Golden Sample)

The one on TechFast is the regular model.

      • sure do. wouldn't drop 3k on a Gigabyte device. yuck

        • +3

To be fair to Gigashyte, their 4090s actually seem like good cards. Well designed coolers, good thermal pads, ball bearing fans, etc… and seem to be beating the competition on thermals as well.

        • +1

Eww, I'll take the crab juice.

    • That deal's been up for 2 weeks with the number of preorders they probably have I highly doubt if anyone ordering today would get that card soon

  • +27

Crazy times when a graphics card is $3k on a bargain website.

    • +1

remindeds me of ozbargain during lockdowns/peak GPU prices, deals of 1660 super cards were like $650+

      • My GTX 1070 died in the peak of those price hikes, had to fork out $1049 for the cheapest card that was in stock in Perth at the time, the RTX 2070 Super. Still pissed off about it, as it was around the corner from the release of the 3000 series too. So after I purchased it and the announcement was made by nVidia, there was that massive crash of prices of the 2000 series right before where people were selling their 2080 Ti's for like $800 up until everyone realised the 3000 series stock was extremely limited, then everything jacked up again.

    • If only you approved everyone's 38" Alienware monitor orders mate, getting this GPU would have made a lot more sense

  • I want.

Should I be worried about the melting adapters?

    • Don't bend the cable right next to the connector

      • yea still kinda scary knowing accidentally bending the cable is all it takes for the gpu to go bye

    • +1

I would probably recommend you go purchase another connector from Cablemods for example. From what I've seen it's best to avoid the Nvidia one.

    • Is there a chance the cable could bend ?

      • +2

Not on your life, my Hindu friend.

  • Check the melting power pin before buying 4090:

Filling the gap left by the samsung galaxy note

    • Someone should put this in the NZXT H1 with dodgy riser, powered with the exploding Gigabyte PSU. Then we can take bets on which will go first

      • +1

It may turn into the most expensive disposable fire pit:)

  • +6

Home and content insurance first before you buy

  • +2

On the plus side the melting cables will keep you warm on those cold winter nights.

  • Hope AMD has competitive performance and price on their new GPU, Nvidia will probably adjust the price to stay competitive.

    • +1

Most models are sold out and FEs are above RRP. Doubt it.

    • To put in into perspective the 4080 will launch starting at $2k AUD

  • the real question is…. where is the 3080 and 3080ti deals in systems and stand alone? im happy to bite… just no one seems to be doing higher end 30 series builds… and some of them claim they have the stock?

    • Holding out for Black Friday… I hope

    • No point doing prebuilds as 3080s are now available close to RRPs.

    • The best deal I've found so far is this used 3080 on eBay that looks to be in near new condition with 3-year warranty and with FHR (full hash rate) for $1029 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/134296302477 Love the slick design and quality build of the Vision D cards from Gigabyte too. Might just pull the trigger

      • -1

Wow full hash rate 🤣 alot of new 3080 cards are around the $1k with new full warranty that doesn't seem good for a second hand card..

        • Those aren't FHR cards though. The cheapest 3080 Vision card retails for $1399 but those are all rev 2.0 which means LHR and not FHR.

bought 3 for 3 way SLI

  • Somehow I'm still not comfortable with inserting something called Ada Lovelace into my motherboard.

    • now I am disappointed, I though this was the name of some porn star ;)

      • Her name was actually Augusta Ada King (nee Byron), countess of Lovelace but it's shortened to Ada Lovelace. Her story is absolutely fascinating. Daughter of the famous poet Lord Byron who was disappointed she was a girl and had a bitter split with her mother when she was a few weeks old. Raised by her grandmother pretending to be her mum because her mother didn't want to be close to her. She was sick all the time. She tried to elope with one of her tutors. She got addicted to gambling. Yet she still managed to kick butt in math and science as a teen and go on to do the work she is known for before dying of uterine cancer at just 36.

Contrary to popular propaganda she did not write the first computer program but she did write one of the first ones, and she was the first to have insights about computers being used to do more than simple calculations (e.g. compose music). If you ask me that insight is more important than "first prorgam" If you want to know more this is good 25 min video.

any interest in me starting back up the cost per frame value tables and graphs I used to do? Example - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12188739/redir
With the upcoming RDNAs and 4080's, it might be interesting/useful

    • Will wait for RDNA 3's price. If you upgrade to RTX 4090, you will also need to include the upgrade cost of the case and the PSU.

  • not a bad price but I've already purchased the ASUS ROG Strix OC 4090, ooh boy shes big

  • If you want your house burn down, get any rtx 4090 card due to badly design power cable.

  • People I know have consistent crashes with 4090's currently. Known problems and waiting for updates to fix.

  • For those wondering about power usage mine has been pretty good. Actually 0 power usage and no need for heating. My insurance premium may have a significant rise next year though

    • Solar time

  • out of stock.. lol
