Hi,
I am currently overseas and using optus esim. I want to buy a new IPhone and want to know if my esim will be transferred while setting it up.
Has anyone done it or have experience with it?

You mean Cmd-C Cmd-V
no CTRL :P
You will have to organise it with the carrier - some let you do it via self service others require a support call.

Can I move my eSIM over to a different device?
Unfortunately, eSIMs can’t be moved to different devices once they’ve been installed.
If you want to move your service to a different device, you’ll need to do so with a new eSIM or a physical SIM. You can do this:
Online
In store
By calling 133 397

Interesting. When i was using Vodafone esim it was matter of scanning the QR code of that esim (on the original email). Optus is different it seems
Vodafone is the easiest and quickest in esim configuration. You can easily transfer from phone to phone or swap from physical to esim.
The only thing you can't do is, swap an esim for physical sim online, they only do that in-store.
But don't these QR codes expire once used to complete the set up. I have an overseas eSIM for use whilst travelling overseas. I would like to know how to transfer as if my wife travels overseas, she could use my eSIM.
You're correct, QR code does expire after the use and you have to get a new QR code for the transfer.
To transfer, you can log-in to your vodafone account and select "swap my sim", select esim and select a reason (e.g., changing handset) and confirm the further details and you will have the new QR code to transfer. Scan the new QR code from other handset and you will be good to go.
I was able to reuse the code after days with vodafone. Might have change now so it is only partially correct (like the thread the other day)
I doubt optus will let you do that. Due to cyber attack, optus is only allowing transfers or activation in-store. Kinda sucks but it eez what it eeez.
Send them a message in app and see what they say.
If you have access to your number currently then you can call up Optus and get them to replace your esim. They will send a verification text etc.
Once completed you will be able to add the new esim from the Optus app on the new phone. Pretty risky process being overseas though because if something goes wrong they will want you to go into store with 100 points of ID.
I asked about this recently from Optus support. They said due to recent incidents, the eSim transfers and activations need to be done through their phone support line or instore.
