I bought this based on positive votes but this thing leaks after spraying

    • +7

Agreed. Persevered for a while, went to landfill after a couple of months. IMHO, this is junk.

    • +1

Agreed. Oily hands after a few sprays

    • +1

Guess I'm just lucky then that mine didn't leak and get oil all over my hands, mine just stopped spraying instead. I only ever had a light olive oil in it and it just seized up and stopped working altogether after no more than 2 dozen uses.

    • Mine is fine had it for months and love it.

Got the same deal before, would recommend for the price and saves you in oil as you can use less (or more if you want too)

    • Mine was great….for the first fill.
Used it heaps on the first fill. Filled it up again and now it doesn't spray or mist or anything. It's no different than just pouring it in the pan straight from the bottle. I should just bin it now, since it's taking up space

    • +1

If they act up right after buying it's because they're faulty. Maybe it's a manufacturing fault, maybe people muck around with them in the shop, drop them on the floor, etc who knows. But if that happens people should take them back and swap for another one. (I never take the very front one of anything for this reason - so 50 other people haven't been mucking about with it.)

And blockage is from not using it regularly. i.e. Oil dries out eventually solidifying. See my next post below to fix that, then remember to use it. (When I first bought mine I kept forgetting to use it.)

Something I did forget to say below, I rubbed the nozzle in different directions with the soap and hot water and used the trigger until it cleared.

    • Totally agree, this is garbage. I don't understand why they're still making it. It doesn't spray well, and it leaks. Complete waste of time and money. I don't think I've ever bought anything so useless.

    • Same. It's a poorly designed product and spray doesn't work that well if it's not filled up with heaps oil and if it's not held at a certain angle.
Definitely would not recommend even at this price.

    • +1

Mine leaks a little too. After a few sprays the handle gets a bit oily.
Thought that's just how it works.

Should I try to get it replaced? I've had it some months and prob can't find the receipt. Bought from Woolworths.

    These are not good

    • +1

      any other recommendations?

  • +10

mine has been excellent, no problems at all.

    • same with mine….

I am just too sure how to clean it thoroughly after having one for 2-3 years

The body is easy enough to wash, but anyone got any tips on washing the head/spray part?

      • +2

My go to for cleaning stuff not moved by detergent is to heat/boil it up in a pot of water with a dishwashing tablet.

      • +3

If you mean clean the outside just wipe the top with a soapy dishcloth, then run hot water over it, then dry. If you mean remove it from the bottle to wash its underside and tube… Not sure why you would want to. I just refill it with oil (even when I change oil types) and screw it back on. (Or tip the old oil out first then refill.)

If you want to clean it because it's getting clogged… and it did that from new, then it's defective. If it gets clogged weeks/month later, it's because it's not being used enough which allows oil to solidify in the nozzle. (Regular use blasts old oil out before it solidifies blocking the nozzle.)

That said, the spray pattern on my older version did start spraying weird once… so I ran hot water over it while rubbing the nozzle with some dish detergent on my finger, rinsed, then sprayed a few times into the sink to blast any remaining water out that got in.

I guess if you really need to, fill the bottle with hot water, 3x the amount of detergent you'd normally use (because of all the oil), shake it heaps, spray many times, separate, wash out the bottle until no suds, fill with hot water again, spray until only water comes out the nozzle. Then separate again, squirt until nothing comes out, leave both sit to dry, refill with oil, squirt until only oil comes out. If you want it cleaner do it multiple times before drying.

Personally I wouldn't do this, I just wipe around the outer thread at the top of the bottle with a dishcloth, clean the outside of the top half, fill with oil and refit.

        • Wow!!!

          Thank you Faulty ixel

          I really appreciate the reply.

I’ve had mine for at least three years, and I’ve never really cleaned the inside, just the outside. It still seems fine, but I just thought that I should clean it perhaps, maybe it’s not needed.

It still sprays perfectly, I mainly use it for the bbq.

It’s empty now, so I’m going to maybe take the chance to clean it..see how I go :)

Will report back with any worthy breakthroughs

    • Same not issues with mine. Works great, I quite like it.

    • +1

      Same here.

Have a number of them for different oils.

      • Yep, Grape, Peanut and Avocado, the ones for special uses mainly and all work fine.

Perhaps people's -ve experience depends on the oil used?

    • I'm a owner and fan of it.

  • +2

mine is great too, it likes to be topped, other wise the spray kinda feels weak.

    • +2

      It likes to be topped

      Don't we all ;)

      • +2

        sometimes

        most of the time

        okay all of the time

    • Gee mine doesn't I don't notice it's getting empty until… it's empty.

  • +2

Had one for a couple of years but it wasn't spraying well anymore and would just shoot out a stream. Switched to some OXO Good Grips Chef's Squeeze Bottles instead as we didn't really need to spray often enough. They've been great and probably will be for a long time.

    • +1

      Good tip, thanks Gojkins

    • Yep they're brilliant. I use one of those and one of these

    • +1

Inspired by your idea for using a normal squeeze bottle I saw this one on sale which has pretty good reviews and is only $1.55 - Décor Squeezy Sauce Bottle,Red https://amzn.asia/d/eFqUDwe

      • +2

When I want more oil than this spray gives I just use an empty tomato/BBQ sauce bottle. I had the "real" version but because they're so soft, the lids would pop off when squeezed. I like the sauce bottles because there's no cap to pop off… you just twist the top and it's closed.

Another thing I do, after deep frying food I line a funnel with the paper towel that I drained the fried food on. Then pour the used oil into the funnel and it drips through the paper towel into a large container, filtering out any bits of food/crumbs. Then I use that oil in the sauce bottle. e.g. Squirt some into a frypan to fry meat.

I bought one of these about 6 months ago to use with Rice Bran oil. I have never looked back. It sprays perfectly (in a line) and does not leak. Tempted to pick up another one at this price for my other oils…

  • These things are so good! I also grabbed a nice squeezy bottle and cooking has never been easier (or less wasteful)

  • Have had three for several years and get used constantly with no issues.

  • One for cooking oil (air frier) and another for salad. Wash up soaking and spraying how dishwashing liquid. and leaving it over night. Rinse,.

  • These are great, use it daily.

  • yep works awesome - had it for > 2 yrs - no leaks, no cleaning necessary imo, sprays evenly, great for light sprays on pans or over roasting foods, used exlusively with EVOO

  • oily hand after sprays …..

  • Impossible to clean. Not a fan of having leftover oil in it.

    • +4

Leftover oil? Don't you just refill with same type of oil??

      • I like to clean at least every few cycles.

        • +1

          Completely unnecessary

          • @Nuggets: Exactly. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12859344/redir

I've seen some people complain the outside gets greasy so they went back to using spray cans. But that's normal because spray cans get binned once they're empty. This thing gets refilled and stays put for years. So of course it's gong to get some oil mist on it. But I've never cleaned the inside of mine, and I've changed oil when half full several times, from peanut oil, to rice bran, to olive, back to rice bran again without blockages. You just have to use it regularly.

            • @[Deactivated]: But what if I don't use it regularly?

              • +1

@gakko: I have a wok, cast iron frypan, non-stick frypan, various oven trays, etc. I use one of these at least every 3 days. So I ether need to spray some food, or the pan itself before or after washing.

When I first got the sprayer I kept it under the sink. Because I didn't see it, I didn't use it. (Out of sight, out of mind.) I already had other habits in place too. Like squirting oil out of an old sauce bottle. Because the sauce bottle was already on the counter it was easier to reach for that instead.

So maybe you have cause to use it regularly, but are still using other methods. Or maybe like I did it's hidden away so you don't think to reach for it.

I solved that by keeping it ON the sink. You could also give it a squirt in the sink (or deep fryer, etc) once every couple of weeks.

  • The QC of this item is questionable. I thought mine was a one-off defective piece but the second one turned out defective as well after a couple of months of use. But then there are hundreds of people getting years of use with theirs.

  • Reading the comments seem to be for and against these sprayers. Tempted to get one though just to use less oil.

    • Could it be just the viscosity of the Oil people use? Some may be thicker than others and the bottle cannot handle them.
We probably should have a survey of what oil they used and whether was it good.

I just bought one, going to try Rice Bran Oil

  • +1

These are terrible. Save your money. Leak everywhere.
    Great concept, horrible execution.

    • But 107 up votes….so 🤷

Anyway, mine needs to get binned for being useless

  • +1

    bought one. regretted it

  • Can of oil is probably 3-5 bucks so if it lasts 2 fills your ahead

  • I bought one and use rice bran oil in it. No leaks, no issues, love it.

  • I had one in my hands some time ago when it was on special for that same price; I was about to buy it, luckily, I checked the reviews on my phone before and I decided to put it back.
