Good Fine Dining in CBD or New Town (SYDNEY)

Hi,

I am new to Australia and I am from South Asia (however food doesn’t matter - but please don’t recommend any South-Asian restaurant). I (boy) am meeting a very old friend of mine (girl/unfortunately married), so you know she was my crush back in college days or during teenage (but still my very close friend). Thinking to take her in a good fine dine restaurant in Sydney CBD (Barangaroo mainly) or Newtown (As I am new, I only know these two places as more happening place, not Bondi plz). Any suggestion of fine-dine restaurant where we can have chats about good old days and get sip of wine?

This sounds like a very bad idea. You need to move on.

But if you insist then pick whichever of these suits you best: Quay, Bennelong, Aria, Cafe Sydney, LuMi or Firedoor.

You also can't go too wrong with Bistecca.

  • Not fine dining but great food nonetheless - Newtown - https://www.continentaldelicatessen.com.au/

      One of my favourites too!

  • Hartsyard newtown , not too expensive, but still good food and very well presented.

    Bishop Sessa

or Stinking Bishops for food, cheese and wine , pretty good to catchup and drink wine together.

Fix Wine Bar ; https://fixwine.com.au/ is also pretty decent in CBD.

The above are all medium budget, so you're not overly investing.

  • Finer dining but still not too expensive, I'd actually suggest Babylon rooftop on a nice summer day - and ask for outside seating. Brilliant food, and good drinks in an awesome venue in the CBD.

Also give Restaurant Hubert a try, though it is rather dark inside.

  • You also havent specified an actual budget, whether she's a local or not, and dietary restrictions if any.

What does your friend's husband think of this or is he invited as well?

    • It was the husband's idea!!

    • I'm wondering what's the chances they're on ozb too.

        More likely OnlyFans

  • Sails at Lavender Bay

  • Not fine dining but quirky I guess, “Hubert” French. I think it will be more comfortable and more fun to sit with a Friend.

    • Paying $80 for a chicken isn’t considered fine dining? :P

      (Chicken was damn good though)

Unfortunately the price isn’t what determines if a restaurant is fine dining. Hubert offers classic French Brasserie dishes. You would get the same in France for half the price and that wouldn’t be fine dining.

But I get where you are coming from 😅

    • Will quirky "win back" a "Friend" ? :)

    Perfect location here

  • I am so sleepy and read the title as "Got fined dining in CBD", I was like WTF lol.
Anyway, don't do that mate! just hang out with someone else

  • When I feel religious on Sundays I like to bless the Lord Nelson pub for it's Ozzie Ploughmans and the views and sink some drinks from the tanks out the back. It's fine for my dinning and drinking.

With that story you MUST be taking her to Karen's Diner in World Square.

  • Can't recommend any fine dining as that is Silver Service but if you want something nice with a reasonable wine list around Newtown:

    Russo & Russo
    Hartsyard
    Continental Deli

She Loves You (a great small bar but no food and possibly the wrong message)

Rubiyo's (but I haven't been there in years)

Kindred near the Seymour Centre is wonderful.

Bar Patron in the CBD and there'd be 20+ others (O-Bar, etc)

  • Cafe sydney as mentioned above is a nice place for tourists. It can get a bit loud so if u don't like that type of ambience maybe don't choose it. Check out the menu and photos. (not sure if ud consider this fine dining tho?)

Otherwise just Google restaurants with chef hats in Sydney and pick from that list. 1 chef hat is generally already a good restaurant, 2 is better, 3 is best (according to their judges). The more hats generally also mean the more expensive

  • Can’t you just go visit their house for coffee? I mean shes married & youre taking her out to wine & dine her at fancy restaurant. Not many husbands would be comfortable with that.

I don't think her husband has anything to worry about 🤣

What do you mean? Surely the neediness that the OP has in the tone of his original post would not come through in real life where he is actually a regular John Mayer / Harry Styles?
