    Nah, boycott the game.

The devs deserve the suffer because of the choice of VA /s

    • +3

I have not played any of the games in the franchise but it was interesting to read about the issues behind the pay dispute. I imagine fans of the franchise would want to support the people who bring their beloved character(s) to life.

      • +2

It seems abundantly clear that money was not the issue here, as Jennifer Hayle is much more expensive than the original voice actor. It looks more like they simply didn't want to work with the OG voice actor and lowballing was their way of getting rid of her.

        • -4

          but… still not cool?

          • @coasttech: @coasttech: Turns out she was lying the whole time and they offered her 4k PER SESSION. So they were very cool with her and she just wanted too much money.

            • -1

@gotoadgo: Mate, 15k to not enough lol. She is worth way more…. pay people for what there worth and how much the product makes!!!!!

              • @coasttech: She isn't known for anything else but this role and hasn't even done anything in the past 8 years which shows you how in demand she is.
In fact this may even reflect her attitude hence she doesnt get work elsewhere.

So 15k is more than enough for 20 hours of work.
If she doesnt like it then they will move onto someone else that will do it which they did.

The product isnt making money just off her voice.
Theres the story, game designers, marketing, licensing oh and in case you didn't forget other staff too that work on it.

                • -2

@SpeedRunnerLink: And they are all getting f#@ked wages as well! Really we should pay her less and the CEO’s more!

              • +1

@coasttech: That isn't how voice acting works, they're paid for their time and her replacement was paid in the exact same way as they're both in the union. Her replacement who is WAY more well known and sought after in VA probably got paid a VERY similar rate.

    • +13

A few key people in management, not the hundred people making wages making the game.
also $4kUSD for 3 days work for someone with little credit to their name sounds fair to me.

      • +22

You might want to read the update on Bloomberg (Full article on reddit, if locked behind paywall) & VGC from a few hours ago.

In summary, allegedly she was offered $3k-$4k per session for at least 5 sessions, but she asked for a six-figured fee + residuals.

        • +19

Everyone's quick to judge without even caring to hear another side of the story. Typical attitude these days, guilty until proven innocent.

        • +4

Oh that's interesting. That's really disingenuous if she really did say they only offered ~$4k for the whole job and wasn't misquoted.

        • +6

And she also rejected this offer and was chasing a triple figure salary.

Sounds like she's a bit salty that she can't get more of the earnings of this franchise

Anyways im so far ok with the new VA so im still buying the game.

          • -8

            @SpeedRunnerLink: IMO, rightfully salty.

The Bloomberg article is spot-on. Whether her total offer was $4,000 or $15,000 is a minor difference. This is the third title in an acclaimed and commercially successful series, with millions of units sold (revenue likely to be 10s of millions). The acting talent deserve residuals. Even higher remuneration or boluses (like her request for >$100,000) is not adequate.

But attaining that comes down to professional advocacy and advancements in industry standards and contracting. Jason Schreier (or Jason Shrek, as us filth know him as) highlights that the last significant industry action, involving a year-long strike, occurred half a decade ago and an agreement for residuals were not achieved, only boluses (or higher pay). So Taylor has nothing to argue her standing in negotiations, but it is underpayment and she has good reason to publicly voice her displeasure with her employment situation. Whether that should culminate in a media outrage event and a call for a boycott, I think is too militant, but I agree with her and believe she should use her situation to push the advocacy for better contracting of VAs in the industry.

            • +3

@muwu: The article states bayonetta 2 only made 1 million sales.
So i think they based off the success or lack there of.

            • +5

@muwu: Im sure theres more to this than the numbers.

The way she is handling things and and breaking NDA to get this out isn't doing anything good for her either.

And its not like she was in demand or anything either.

Also the way shes calling out the VA even though it has nothing to do with her shows what kind of personality Taylor is.

At the end of the day all she did was provide a voice. It's not like she wrote the story, designed the game. Hired all the staff and marketed the game.

I think the allegedly $15k offered for 15-20 hours worth of work i think thats fair enough if it is true. You need to rememebr this is a game that only sells a few million at best. Not like a movie that can be potentially watched by hundreds of millions of people via multiple avenues of income.

            • +6

@muwu: Changing the voice actor won't affect the sales of the game in the slightest, so what is her bargaining point for a massive increase in remuneration?

She just seems like a fruitcake who is very clearly unprofessional.

              • +3

@choodi: Exactly right. Its not like she is an actress that people will flock to see her new movie. Despite having played Bayonetta 1 and 2 I had never heard of her. Now that she isnt in 3, eh, will still play it anyway. She is massively overvaluing herself.. She would have ended up being paid $1k USD per hour or there abouts. As good as many high profile lawyers and I would argue much better paid than Doctors.

lmao @ downvotes. it's quite clearly sarcasm.

    • +5

How is that boycott going now? Hahaha. Liars always get caught out

      • +1

Yep, I received sealed AU PS4 games from them packaged well.

      • +2

Yup bought a few things from them and come sealed, even Switch games.

The owner is a nice chap and you'll be supporting a small local business.

  • +3

Bought it literally just because the original VA is a terf and I want to bathe in her tears.

    • +4

Up-vote for the lols, because I think it's safer to presume humour than to neg away

edit: Where's the trans politics in this drama? (I must have missed it)

      • +1

It's not directly related to her claims around underpayment. Someone on Twitter asked her something like "Would Bayonetta say 'I support trans rights'?" and she responded with a strange statement along the lines of "I believe in gentle female power, not sabre rattling".

        • She’s also follows terfs and blue lives matter on Twitter

    • +1

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever read. You bought something to spite someone who will never know or care that you bought it? Really take a long hard look in the mirror and work out who is the loser in this situation. You probably buy loads of things every day that are made by TERFs.

      • +1

You don’t understand how feelings work do you

        • Did I hurt yours?

          • +3

@choodi: No, but I feel great about my purchase. That’s the part you didn’t understand.

  • +9

possibly due to the recent Twitter drama

Nah, it's been under $70 since July.

    • +2

Just like every other game published by Nintendo at launch.

  • +2

I love how this story is developing. 🌈

    • +3

…and your performative activism will achieve nothing either.

      • -6

I don't care. I just don't want to give them my hard-earned money.

        • +1

Cool, so you don't get to play something you obviously would enjoy and the person you are supporting with your performative gesture won't even notice and the corporation you are trying to teach a lesson to won't care. Look in the mirror and you will see who is losing out here.

          • @choodi: Based on you're logic, even something like the voting system is a joke. Why vote against a maniac dictator when he or she doesn't even notice you and knows nothing about you? Why teach them a lesson with just 1 vote, when you can sit at home and enjoy your beer?

            • @DontNeedThis: A manic dictator will be more affected by people not voting than by people who vote. Not voting makes it obvious people are dissatisfied. Voting just opens things up to voter fraud.

      • Imagine getting triggered by people who have ethics

  • +3

I'll buy it just to spite the people who keeps on shouting boycott boycott for some washed up VA that is complaining that she isnt valued.
