do you have any micro SD 32G class 10 on special

  • Has anyone used one of these? Are they as fast as stated?

What are the fastest USB flash drives out there?

  • Nothing special. MemoryCity had similar prices.

  • What kind of read/write speeds can we expect from these?

… oh, I see it, its in the small print

  • I suggest this would be a deal back in Dec2011, you are only 6 months late to the party.

    • What apples and oranges are you comparing?

  • Ever since i was fortunate enough to acquire my 320gig Verbatim portable hard drive from the Staples opening sale for $30 or so : ) i have never bothered with thumb drives, as i now find them way too slow and annoying low on space.
Sure you can clip a thumb drive onto your shirt pocket, but modern external hard drives can quite easily fit into a pocket, and both speed and dollars per gigabyte they leave thumb drives for dead.

For $31 more than the $48 being asked for the 64gig thumb drive you can get a ie.500gig,Toshiba USB3 portable hard drive. The Toshiba drive is 79mm x 13mm x 118mm. It is slightly bigger than my Verbatim but certainly very portable.

Just my POV hope i don't get negged to death for having one.

    • cost aside, you are making a tradeoff with storage space vs size, a hdd will always be larger & heavier than a memory card, also a hdd is somewhat more fragile, memory cards like a sd/microsd are usually shockproof & waterproof
ps good price, but if it was a 64gb microsd card i would be all over this!

    • MicroSD-> SD-> USB key-> Portable HDD, in order of physical dimension/usability.

We have all bought one each of the above forms I'm fairly certain, though no doubt to my mind Micro SD holds the ultimate form factor.
      - Tiny chip that inserts easily into SD card-adapter which, in turn, slots into a Card-reader, effectively making it USB-drive plus compatible with anything (adaptable to SD/USB devices).
USB Keys do not have the reverse option so they stop there, leaving out smartphone, cameras etc.

I've stopped buying USB keys for 'compatibility' and instead recommend just get a ($2)reader so to have all flexibility.

Portable USB 3.0HDD most definitely suit applications where you are moving hundreds of gig, and cannot do better than with these for $/TB.

  • I don't move hundreds of gigs very often. The main thing i use my portable hard drive for is copying downloaded movies and TV shows to, and then plugging it into my media player to watch on my TV. Even copying a couple of 700 -1300mb movies and maybe a TV prog or two seems painful on a thumb drive compared to my portable hard drive. Maybe i am getting old and impatient but even with my USB 2 drive the difference in time is huge.

    • It may be the drives I buy or the things I plug them into, but I am sick and tired of portable HDD's not starting up, either due to the voltage rail being too low or for some reason only working with one specific cable.

Thumb drives seem to be much more robust, and if I (or the kids, grrr) drop one, I'm not anywhere as worried about it as a portable HDD.

I'm sure someone will say buy USB3.0 thumb drives, but I've tried that with the USB3.0 card in the desktop, I saw no difference in speed.
