For AFR, just go into site settings and block JavaScript for afr.com

Has never stopped working. Make sure you're up-to-date. And remember that you have to re-enable the plugin periodically, as it gets turned off.

Or a legit way I get free access to News.com.au newspapers, including the Herald Sun - sign up for a Connect account and do surveys. Redeem them for a free 28 day subscription to one of the papers - will also allow you to read the others. For example, I redeem it for the Courier Mail (Brisbane), but I can also read the Herald Sun.
I get it for free every day. All I do is sit on the toilet, wipe my ass, and check the paper to see if there’s still poo
Try your local library online. Great for magazine subscriptions, too.

Trying to access Herald Sun, there's an article I can't find anywhere else.
I installed the current Bypass Paywalls addon for Firefox "by MrTom". HS page comes up and says "no cookies". Turning HS offf in the config for the addon and not surprisingly I get the subscribe page. I guess it just doesn't work?
There's no way to even report this to the dev - he has disabled bug reports on his github page "unless you've already contributed to the site".
