NBA League Pass Can't Update Billing Information

Hi All,

I keep getting an email from NBA League Pass saying my auto-renewal is unsuccessful

"We attempted to charge your payment method on file, but were unsuccessful.

Please update your billing information to continue your access to NBA League Pass."

The problem is that when I go into league pass it won't give me an option to edit the payment information - see link https://postimg.cc/rd5s3bvL

Someone else on a prior thread was having this same issue but said he received an email from league pass saying the option would come up on 16 Sep. That hasn't happened for me. I've been on the chat to NBA and they are encouraging me to cancel, however I've read a lot about people with new subs not being able to access it when paying via VPN to save some money, so not wanting to do that.

The only thing I can think about is that the card linked to this paypal has changed. But I wouldn't have thought that to be the issue as I thought when you use paypal as a payment method it just uses whatever card is setup in your Paypal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can update the primary card for this company in your PayPal account. There should be a section that shows all the sites where you have them permission to auto debit.

    • Thanks. Having some trouble finding it though. I looked in previous transactions for NBA and found the last one which it says it's inactive and for another bank. Not sure if I'm looking in the right section. Not sure if you could screenshot the menu you went into?

I found the automatic payments section in PayPal and NBA is there. The payment method is "PayPal balance", but it won't let me change it. I'm thinking I may just need to deposit money in the account. I e messaged PayPal support but they won't let you talk to someone - for a company making this amount of money it's pathetic.

      • Confirming you cannot change someone on PayPal from inactive to active. You must go to the merchant website and reactivate the payment. Yet NBA won't let me do that. I've added funds to PayPal but that will take 3-5 days to go in, so hopefully they keep trying. But I don't think it will work in ay case as they're showing as inactive, even though I never cancelled the agreement.

I've found a few merchants who don't accept paypal balance - dunno why - they proceed to another method.

  • I've got the same issue; I believe the issue is due that PayPal is no longer a form of payment for some countries.
I used South Africa last year and can't update to a different payment method.

Apparently, it’s a known issue and they are trying to resolve it

Looks like i'm might have to pay Australian price this year

    • That's so bad, but what's even worse is that these incompetent idiots can't even tell you that's the issue. I created another account in Argentina and used my credit card details to pay - however it won't debit it until the 7 day trial ends. So my plan is if my original doesn't work with PayPal, I just cancel it and let the Argentina one go through. Only reason I want to keep the original one going is because I'm worried they will somehow find out I'm from Australia and place restrictions on my account.

      • I think they realise that the money is in streaming now (streaming growth was 20-30%) - and having eyeballs on the stream for advertising. So they probs don't care too much about the 1% who evade.

  • I had a similar issue where I couldn't update the billing method details. I checked again this morning and it seems like there is now a remove button but still doesn't remove my paypal details… What a joke.

  • I could not update payment information on the website either (paypal). But I am able to watch 76ers vs Celtics right now for some reason, even though they haven't charged me for the renewal yet.

    • Same. Couldn't update my paypal and my subscription has been cancelled but can watch the 76ers vs Celtics.

I had the same with my subscription via South Africa, as other have said my understanding is that PayPal is not an option anymore?
I have actually created a new account and gone via Turkey. Payment came out today after 7 day trial. $28.80 AUD
When signing up I actually used Edge (usually use Chrome) I think that helped with cookies and I used VPN Unlimited. I've heard NordVPN works as well

  • Wow I thought I was the only person having this problem!

Got an email saying last chance to update my billing info. Not sure if I used Paypal before but it won’t let me update my card even if I entered it couple of times. What’s the strategy now?

I had the same error and couldn't remove paypal as a payment method.
I VPN'd through Argentina to nba.com and clicked on a '7 day trial' followed by 2880 peso (~29 AUD).
I paid through citibank plus. Logging in to the same NBA account shows it has updated the payment method to the citibank plus card.

    • Yeah I had a couple of accounts so did the same thing you did on my other one.

  • So just an update. After failed attempts to debit the annual subscription and I even cancelled my card details on NBA, a payment went through today ~$75 and my League Pass is active now until Oct 2023.. Weird

    • I just logged on and it had an option to remove payment method. So I clicked on it but it still didn't look like it removed it. I already purchased on another account so really don't want this to go through and will be asking for a refund if it does.

      • Yup same thing, it feels like it didn’t removed the details right. It’s fine that it went through and I have another 1 yr subs but it didn’t feel safe that they just debit without my permission - maybe I missed something as I didn’t really dig deeper

Ok boys! This workaround for Commonwealth Bank users is working. I signed up using a Turkish account (VPN ON) and after the trial period it keeps saying unsuccessful billing method etc. It seems like it wouldn't process AU cc. I went to CBA to ask for a travel money card and loaded it with $50. After that, I updated the payment method and it was accepted and now I have the season pass. Watching it doesn't require VPN. Happy watching!
