Endura Energy Gels $1.52 Each + Delivery ($0 with $50 Order/ in-Store) @ Chemist Warehouse

240

Chemist warehouse currently have various Endura Gels for $1.52 each including vanilla, cola, grape, apple, citrus and raspberry. Not a bad price if you are in need compared to $3+ usually.

I just grabbed some in store and expiry was mid to late 2024.

Amazon also has boxes of 20 (other than Vanilla) at the same price. This may be cheaper if you are after only one flavour, have Prime and don’t want to spend $50 for free shipping at Chemist Warehouse.

    They are selling sugar.
    You got scammed.
    26g of sugar for $1.52

Pray, do tell, what is easier and convenient, that can give me 78g of carbs per hour, in a tasty solution, for 5 hours?

Your own body fat. Being metabolically flexible is far better for you
Sugar is really bad for you

        • +2

I don’t think you understand anything about long distance running and glycogen depletion.

          • +6

@NedStark102: The problem is this is abused by even gym goers who workout 45 mins. I have seen people walking in with gatorades when all one needs is a banana an hour before the workout. Cheap, lots of fiber, good source of carbs and that load of potassium to prevent any kind of cramps while working out. Comes in natural packaging called banana skins which is decomposable and not in cancer causing/planet polluting plastic bottles. Helps farmers rather than rich money sucking pharmas.

              Gym goer here.
I do cardio 1 hr a day and then 1.5 hrs intense weight workout.

Never ever needed to take any sugar drink or scammy sugar gels before, during or after my session.

I have a decent meal of basmati rice and meat protein 30 min before workout

              • @easternculture: True, body can store loads of carbs in muscle and liver. I didnt mean everybody, but there are always that group of abusers ;)

          • -1

@NedStark102: Look up fat-adaptation and you will understand.
I ran a marathon two weeks ago without carb loading. I actually fasted most of the week. I did carry gels and did take one halfway through but I didn’t really need to and finished full of energy.

            • +1

              @choofa: True that.
I rely mainly of fat metabolism while training.
Natural and Great source of energy

            • @choofa: You literally just proved my point then re: glycogen depletion and the intake of simple carbohydrates to avoid hitting the wall. Congrats on the marathon though, hoping to run one myself in the near future

              • -1

@NedStark102: It wasn’t because of glycogen depletion. It was a race and I wanted some more energy to go faster.
If it wasn’t a race and I was just training I wouldn’t have bothered as I didn’t need it and I wouldn’t hit the wall as I am fat-adapted and have endless energy stored as fat.
Glycogen depletion doesn’t matter if you are fat-adapted. There is no wall as your body immediately switches to burning fat for energy.

            • +2

@choofa: still better performance with carbs.

but yes, imagine a world where people fasted more regularly. less obesity, less food waste, increased productivity, all those delicious savings to spend more on the only form of energy I need: eneloops

              • @DONMAI:

all those delicious savings to spend more on the only form of energy I need: eneloops

                Its powerbanks for me lol

              • @DONMAI: Agreed. Hence why I ate a banana pre race and took one gel during the race. I wanted to go fast

During training I fasted for a day or two before each long run and are as low carb as possible. It only took about four weeks to get my body adjusted and the results were amazing to me

                • @choofa: Look, you do you. I accept everyone is different, but… you'll be able to run marathons faster if you are good at burning carbs and have a large storage of glyocgen before the race, and take carbs during the race.

Depending on a number of factors, at marathon distance, metabolic flexibility can be useful… but, being only good at burning fat (and not flexible enough to be good at burning both carbs and fat) is not the fastest way to run a marathon.

                  This is just basic science.

Of course, running marathons fast may not be important to you - in that case, I understand.

                  • @ricee007: These things are cancer packets

Yeah sure, use these in marathons to elevate your performance. I did that too

But beware of consuming this crap in training

      sugar mixes with caffeine

    • +3

No, they're selling the convenient packaging, that is sealed and shelf stable, that can be consumed while cycling.

    • +9

Every morning before my daily ride I pack my pockets full of sugar. For variety I mix it up with caster sugar, white, brown, raw, sometimes a bit of cinnamon sugar. You're probably thinking, 'what an idiot, his pockets only can only hold so much energy granules!'. But they're giving away this stuff for free at practically every cafe!

CAn't wait to see next year's le tour de frencho when they discover this one simple trick energy gel brands absolutely hate! Team cars wafting blankets of icing sugar powder over the peloton.

      • sugar and sweat, it's sticky situation

This is the least of my worries. You should see what I spend on running shoes!

      • Curious, whats your current set of running shoes? I just wore out a pair of MaxRoad4, currently on Clifton 8 and NB 1080 V10. Unfortunately missed the train on Maxroad 5 - cant find anywhere.

        • I find what people like varies so much.

I’m currently switching between Rebel v2s, Streakflys, Endorphin Speed 2 and Next %2.

Weirdly enough I loved the first pair of Rebel v2s but these aren’t as soft and bouncy, but didn’t overly love the v1 of the Speeds but am loving the v2 Speeds.

The Streakflys never start out feeling amazing but I always enjoy the run in them.

The Next%2s are solid but we’re disappointing for me. I had a pair of Temp Next% that I loved for long runs, but when replacing the Vaporfly Next% was cheaper so I went with that. They are solid but don’t pop like the older Vaporflys or the Alphaflys.

I’m keen to give the Novablast 3 a try when some of these shoes hit 500kms

          • +1

@anthonyw: Thats interesting set of shoes. I think once mine wear out, I will try one of those. tho I will pick up maxroad 5 if I ever get a chance as I am a heal striker and prefer mid-sole strike shoes with lots of cusion, light weight and rebound energy.

        • +1

          Race day - OG alphafly
          Long run / Recovery - Bondi X
Daily trainer - Shift 3 but soon to be Novablast 3.

          • @D3NI3D: Sweet!

    • The important difference to me is that this is dextrose.

      Dextrose is just glucose.

It's not fructose or sucrose which have nasty metabolic effects.

      • +1

I believe this is fructose as well

        • It is! I went and checked in-store.

          Which is disappointing to me.

Fructose is technically better at refuelling glycogen, but metabolically equivalent to alcohol.

Dextrose/Glucose gels can be found, and would be my preference for riding/running.

      • Fructose and loaded with preservatives. Also whats wrong with fructose, arent all fruits fructose? I see lot of High fat low carb diet preachers ask people to stay away from fruits. Being a vegetarian myself, i cant get to see whats wrong in eating fruits.

        • If you have time/focus, this is basically the bible of why Fructose is the devil.

          https://youtu.be/dBnniua6-oM

Fruits and vegetables (whole) aren't really a problem because they contain fibre and water and aren't concentrated fructose (apart from grapes/raisins).

  • The powder is also 1/2 price, no raspberry in 2kg though.

  • These are good on race days. Convenient and fast absorbing. Every 45min - 1hr. I do like the ones with the caffeine hit.

I make my own for long distance training as I wear running belt with bottles. Mixture of maltodextrin and electrolytes.
