[Kogan First] Google Pixel 6a (6GB Ram, 128GB Rom, Dual Sim) - Charcoal Black (International Version) $551.99 Delivered @ Kogan

60

Note: This product is sold by a third party Marketplace Seller. I don't know what that means, I've never liked dealing with Kogan.

I've been trying to find a good deal on this phone, I missed the Telstra points deal since I'm no longer with them which I'm disappointed with.

I'm not sure if this International version will be a good fit for me either since I live in a rural area, I'm not too familiar with the bandwidth requirements - 5G is essentially nonexistent for me so the 3G and 4G bands are much more important in my case.

Maybe somebody will like this deal though.

I'd rather get shot than buy anything from Kogan ever

I'm not disagreeing with you there. But it's OzBargain, not OzGoodShopsOnly

    a BIG NOoo.

Reason: Kogan + 3rd party seller

FYI - Google Pixel 6a is only $599 outright and unlocked via Telstra

    • I must have confused the price for the 6 - or gone on a long and fruitless search for a better deal - I don't like Telstra very much either. But thanks for pointing that out mate.

Definitely much rather order from Telstra in AU than Kogan for an extra ~$50.

      • Would T be dual sim?

        • I don't believe so - I haven't read anywhere that the 6a is dual sim except for on the Kogan deal/International version

        • Pixel 6a is dual SIM (e-SIM + nano SIM)

    • From Telstra webpage:
Get $150 off your new Google Pixel 6a
When you add to an Upfront Data plan. Offer ends 24 October. 5G rolling out in selected areas on selected plans.

      • Thanks for that, this may be beneficial to those who need data plans with their phones.

  • Heybattery is quite a good seller.
I bought some items from them last year.
    14 days delivery to Melbourne.
Most of their products are imported from outside Australia with a lower price.
Also, some of their products running a difference version in Australia.

Got one a few weeks ago and there is a good reason they are being discounted so heavily soon after release. This is a bad phone. Battery life is terrible, it lasts maybe 5 hours with Bluetooth and 5G enabled. The phone gets hot after a short time of use, turning off Bluetooth made it marginally cooler, but the phone still has heating issues. Be warned the phone has Gorrila Glass 3 so if you drop it or it gets knocked the screen is going to break, build is cheap plastic.

The only saving grace is the stock Android OS and the 5 years of security updates, only 3 Android version updates so another 2 and then you get nothing.

If you wait until BlackFriday or Xmas/Boxing Day and you will probably get them at sub $500, maybe even $450/$400. Retailers are really trying to clear stock for a reason, Telstra basically gave it away for reward points. My advice is to look for a good deal for a Samsung 21FE which has a Snapdragon 888, even though it's 2 years old because the Tensor chips (Samsung design and made with a few enhancements from Google) in these phones run very hot and have abysmal battery life.

    • I'm planning on flashing a custom ROM on it, one of the reasons I like the Pixel phones. I don't use 5g nor bluetooth that much. Do you really think this is that bad of a phone for me, who doesn't spend all day on their phone, I use it for obvious phone things, calls, messages and apps, but I am in desperate need an upgrade.

I can wait until Black Friday, Xmas or boxing day if needed, but is it worth it do you think?

I would wait until BlackFriday/Xmas honestly, at the very least JB/Google Store/Officeworks are better places top buy than Kogan. They are basically giving away the phone to clear stock now because it's a bad phone. I'm not up to date on the custom rom scene so in the end it's up to you. But I can't imagine custom rom developers are better at optimizing the cpu than google developers. The phone get's very warm/hot without any stress.

    • Ok mate, thanks for your input.

Maybe I'll get the Pixel 6 or even 7 instead depending on the deals available - unless they're crap too - the reviews I read all said the 6a was a good cheap phone, in my price range because I don't need anything super great, just not a phone well past its security update life. Not to mention the phone I was using actually died, so I'm using a real cheap one temporarily.

I don't need the new tensor AI chip or a better camera, I just want a stock android that I can flash a custom ROM on and have security updates for a few years that doesn't cost the same as a new PC.

  • I thought the same as you without flashing a custom rom part, cheap enough with pure stock Android. But there is a reason why it's cheap, because it is a cheaply made phone. It's up to you in the end though, I would wait and see if prices go even lower though if you can wait. New Pixel 7 just came out, I can see them trying to flog off any extra stock of the Pixel 6A in the future because of less demand due to new releases

  • Why does kogan have such bad (imo) cs support?

I bought some things and they are defective and faulty so i submitted a ticket (5 paragraphs with multiple photos of items and 2 videos showing the fault and defects). Reply from Kogan rep? "explain in detail what is wrong with the product and include any photos and videos". It's like they didn't even glance at my enquiry…
