Anyone Travel to USA Recently? Wondering about Vaccination Certificate Experiences

Hey guys, I've had this trip to USA planned for ages but like an idiot I must've somehow misread the U.S travel guidelines: I'll have had my second jab and thus be "fully vaccinated" a few days before my flight, but now I find out USA requires your second dose to be at least 14 days before travel(!!). I'm trying to figure out the chances I'll be turned away at check-in etc (or worse, by customs upon arrival in USA) so I can decide whether to cancel the entire thing or not. Thanks so much

When do you travel? Anything stopping you getting second dose today/tomorrow which might help.

They usually check your vaccination certificate at airport check-in desk. Anyone's guess if they will or won't on your particular airline and flight and day and desk.

I don't recall any checks made upon arrival, they don't care so much on that side.

    • 30th I fly out from Sydney. So essentially you’re saying if they ok it this end then I’ll be fine once I arrive. Hmm

      • You can literally walk-in and get your second jab today or tomorrow and will be fine…

  • I can't comment on the US, but I recently traveled to a pacific island via Air NZ, had all our international covid certs on our phones but no one ever asked to see them. So it's going to be hit and miss as to whether you'll get asked to produce them…I highly doubt it with the big lines you get in the terminal, pulling up the certs takes a while and would majorly slow things up so I'd say you're pretty safe as long as you have a international covid cert on your phone just in case.

    • I went to bali 4 weeks ago and needed tp show international covid vac certificate when checking in at bribane sirport and on arrival in Bali.

If you travelling to US, check with US government websites not Ozb, which be more relevant and up-to-date than Ozb. Hint use google

And have you checked the exchange rate recently? Our dollar buys just 63 US cents. Depending how far back you set your budget it may have changed a bit since you set your budget.

    • Have you considered answering the actual question?

  • Not sure when your flight is, but go to almost any pharmacy's websites (i used Terry White) and you can probably get the vaccine tomorrow for free.

  • Qantas checked all my docs before check in.

You need the Medicare confirmation that comes with a QR code. That might take a few days after your actual second dose.

  • Pretty sure you need to be fully vaccinated. Crazy thing is you don't need to be vaccinated if you flew to Canada, then crossed the land border.

  • Entry requirements for USA from the CDC

    • Yeah I know what they are now :/

  • Air New Zealand checked when i came over here in August but nothing on arrival in Canada when going through both Canada and USA customs/border screening at Vancouver airport.

  • Flew from Singapore to USA (Houston) in Sep. they checked vaccine record in Sgp airport.

A few days ago flew from London to Houston again, the guy barely checked. Just saw two Pfizer (the third didn’t update on my Apple wallet) and he just went with it. Def didn’t check the dates.

Both occasion US customs didn’t check for anything in Houston

Don’t know if this helps, flew Qantas from Brisbane to Singapore and they checked properly at BNE airport

    • Yeah that’s the thing. I’m flying with Delta and have no idea how thorough they might be on this end. If I try the flight & they check properly at Sydney airport I’ll just get denied without any kind of refund. Real conundrum

  • It is hit and miss!
Do NOT rely on airport websites such as Narita.
Found out the hard way with being tripple vaxed and very expensive Japan approved covid test translated into Japanese denied me boarding.
Apparently you had to prepay your allocated seat, then put it into an app and agree to pay for 3 days of quarantine if they had placed a covid positive person next to you.
Too many people blame Qantas for not being their fault.
Houston is the place to arrive, San Francisco may cause issues depending where you were born.

  • Houston is the place to arrive

But how to get there for a reasonable price? I just checked for the next 6 months and struggling to find anything under $2k
