Looks like a decent deal for a tool free aluminum enclosure with a silicon bumper case and both USB-C and USB-A cables. Lowest price ever according to 3xcamels, which is around $10 cheaper than their standard price and a few $$ cheaper than their lowest price. Read and writes are ~1000MB/s with NVME & ~500MB/s for SATA (users have also posted photos of this in reviews). UGREEN

    Yeah the UGreen stuff tends to be really good. I have a few of both their 2.5" and NVMe USB enclosures and all appear to be of a high quality build and just function extremely well. 10/10 can recommend.

      I agree yes it is cheaper but the way it connects is a major flaw in itself. With no cable to attach it your relying on the device balanced vertically, horizontally or at whatever angle your usb ports at at.

    Ugreen products are very high quality. I got some cables, USB hub switcher, etc all functioning well since I bought them years ago. Some of my Baseus products died after 12 months.

      Yeah I pretty much only buy UGreen stuff for whenever I need random USB-A/USB-C stuff. They just make good products.

      Not a direct comparison, but I have a couple of metal phone stands made by Ugreen.

      Excellent build quality, and the hinges are firm and haven’t loosened in over a year.

      Feels like an apple product (loosely speaking).

    This would be useful if you're looking to increase the size of your C drive which is currently on an NVME SSD, right? Get the bigger SSD, plug it into this, clone C drive onto it, then install into your machine?

    • I used to run Blizzard games off Samsung T7 with no issues, so I imagine this would be about the same with Steam games

    • Main issue would be heat, some nvme can run hot and these cases don't provide much cooling

    • When I bought this enclosure I also bought the 1TB Kingston A2000 NVME for $124, also on Amazon. Has DRAM and a big SLC cache.

      I get anywhere between 800 to under 1000MB/s write speed when copying large files, not more than 100GB at a time though.

      • isn't it better to buy external SSD ? seems like the price is more expensive doing it this way

        • I bought them for $170 in total, which at the time was about $20 cheaper than an external SSD with similar speeds. Looks like a few external SSDs have come down in price since so not much savings now.

    Hi everyone, Can someone highlight the benefit of this with NVMe than the external SSD (such as Samsung T5/7)? The total cost is very similar and SSD is a single piece only. Better life span or …? I'm looking for some portable storage for my MacBook time machine backup and struggling with the choice between external NVMe, SSD, and high-speed MicroSD.

      As far as my understanding is,

      In order of overall performance.
      1. NVMe
      2. SSD
      3. MicroSD

        That article is written by someone who doesn't know the difference themselves.

        NVMe is an interface like SATA or IDE. The maximum bandwidth a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe SSD can get is around 63Gbps (7,880MB/s), around 10x more than the SATA interface can provide at 6Gbps (750MB/s) minus any overhead (which means actual SSD speeds are usually lower), so yes NVMe SSDs usually are faster than SATA SSDs.

        2.5" 7mm and M.2 2280 are form factors. A SATA SSD can be either a 2.5" or a M.2 form factor, but NVMe SSDs are usually only found in the M.2 form factor in various sizes (e.g. 2280 means the SSD is 22mm wide and 80mm long).

        For this deal, you would need a M.2 form factor SSD of some kind, both SATA and NVMe drives will work. Regardless of how fast your SSD is, it'll to limited to 10Gbps in this enclosure (around 1,000MB/s sequential r/w) as that is the limit of USB 3.2 Gen2.

      This is for when you have spare drives hanging around or want to have the flexibility of easily swapping out drives.
      Can't really be compared to a prebuilt Samsung T5/7 as they come with a SSD non removable drive so you are stuck with whatever size you purchase which is fine if capacity suits your needs.

      • Thanks mate. Any suggestion if I do not have an existing NVMe and 1TB is total enough for my backup purpose, will a portable SSD be better than the NVMe enclosure bundle with the same cost? Or visa versa?

          If you can get a portable 1TB SSD for the same cost as making one, I would go with it as it saves mucking around and the whole unit would be covered under warranty. Enclosures are only good if you need something to place existing spares into.

    • not sure that it's better but the wavelink isn't available now.
      People mentioned the waveline only accepts single sided PCB ssd's (due to how thin the internal space is, not sure about this one).
      People may also find the dual USB option on this useful. I misread the listing

  • UGreen makes solid products. Have a powered USB hub and USB to IDE/SATA adapter and still going strong. Bought a cheap NVME USB from eBay and it died after a few days LOL

    • Compatible, yes, but overkill. Normally, I use the low end NVMe SSD for USB 3.2 gen 2 enclosure. Decent / quality PCIe gen 3 x4 ones, either USB gen 2x2 or Thunderbolt 3/4.

      20Gbps USB-C 3.2 Gen2x2: PCI gen 3 x4

  • Would this be compatible with ADT-Link M.2 Key to run an eGPU over TB3/USB4?
