Square Is Unable to Verify Details via Credit Profile, Drivers License, Medicare, Passport for Square Reader?

Hi

My wife bought a square reader for market sales. You need to have your ID verified to use it. Their system uses two credit profile providers and Gov ID such as license, medicare and passport.
We have tried everything but their system says it can't verify her thus we can't use it
We obviously checked spelling and so on.

Has anyone ever been unable to be verified by these processes; what can we do?
Her ID had never been stolen so it's weird they can't access the Gov details. She's never had a loan or credit card so I'm not sure if that impacts the credit profile checks

Square said they outsource the ID check processes and told us they couldn't assist

Does she have a foreign/long name that may cause confusion regarding first and middle names?
For example, my name is A B C D where I specified A B C as first name and D as last name, no middle names.
Yet different government departments will randomly assign it however they see fit (DoT has it as first name A, middle name B C even though it’s correct on my actual license). Worth calling up Medicare, DoT and various entities to confirm what they actually store on the system.

    • It's a run of the mill name however we did try adding first and middle name together Incase it was somehow recorded wrong. We tried quite a few combinations :-)
We will call tomorrow to check but online and with cards everything looks fine.
Maybe 5 years ago she had a similar issues where Centrelink could not ID her. It took them a year to fix and we couldn't get study support the whole time. They eventually fixed it.
I assumed the ID check with square would just access the deets selected like Medicare but maybe there's some global issues still.

  • get a copy of her credit report , see if the details you have match what is available, probably easiest way to find out if its a minor error such as spelling mistake

    • Would she have a credit report if she's never had a credit card, loan etc? I couldn't find a definitive answer but it seemed she wouldn't?

      • No, if she'd never sought credit, there would be no credit report on her for them to look up. She simply wouldn't exist as far as the credit report agencies were concerned.

Get a Paypal here reader. They never activated mine, similar story.

  • If you don't get any resolution, return the Square reader & go with NAB Easy Tap

    • That was her first thought and is already with NAB but she doesn't have NFC and needed something this weekend.
If we can't verify with Square we will try nab.

  • Hi OP. What did she end up using for payments? Trying to decide which one to get.
