              • @exceladdict: Cool cool, mine was 64gb.

I think you are correct however.

  • +1

Did this yesterday, they printed off the redemption vouchers for the Nest Hub/Chromecast and then let me redeem them in store. Walked out with a phone, nest hub, chromecast and gift card in about 10 mins.

    • Nice.. question about your phone. Is your s tray flush with the phone or very slightly sticking out like mine?

  • Found a phone on eBay to buy for trade in, however JB hi Fi only have the next model up that is eligible. However, the IMEI number passes for a different phone lol.

Is it worth risking the trade in? It's only worth $100 so worst case I'd just pay the difference…

    • No

  • Instore, was given the redemption vouchers but not the $100 gift card. It seems the website and others' experience is the GC is awarded instantly? Did anyone else not receive or receive via SMS?

    • +3

Ordered on the 13th, yet to receive any of the bonuses.

    • +1

I went to the Malaga store in Perth and had the same thing, I got the Chromecast & Google Nest Hub coupons but they said I need to wait until I get a SMS. I also didn't get a giftcard.

      • Different store but identical situation. No SMS and I am now a bit concerned because the pixel bonus website says "Gift card will be provided at time of instore collection."
Not even sure they entered my phone number other than for email receipt.
May need to go back today.

        • +1

I got mine as sms couple days after pickup.

Though one of the codes didn't work and they just overrode the price to 0.

        • +1

I got the $100 in store, but haven't got the vouchers yet

      • UPDATE
I went into the same store today with the coupons and they let me redeem them and also gave me the $100 gift card

  • Is anyone else getting stuck at the imei verification screen? I'm trying to trade in a refurbed iPhone 8 from the coles deal.
This is the message that comes up:
"This imei/serial is Blocked and can not be used on JB Trade-in"

    • Same here with an iphone XR that I bought on ebay

    • +1

Probably was a stolen phone. I assume if you put a SIM in it, it won't work.

Can check your IMEI here also.
      https://amta.org.au/check-the-status-of-your-handset/

    • It says invalid serial for my apple watch and blocked imei for the phone. Both originally purchased from apple store. Not sure what is happening there!

    • I had problems when entering my CC details. Kept saying it couldn't authorise but kept charging $1
I went in store and the guy told me to pay full price today, get the bonus items today. And they will refund me the trade in + $300 bonus once I sort that out..

  • People who got their phones already, how's the experience so far?
Heat, connectivity, mobile network, standby drain, battery, bugs?

    • Pixel 7 Pro 256. Light use since this morning, only used 30% battery. Photos are unbelievably good! Unblur works, even on non pixel photos. No issues at all! I am easily impressed coming from an S7 32GB.

      • +1

oh wow, props to you for hanging onto S7 for that long.

      • Re photos. What did you use before?

        • Phone wise, the S7. Served me well.

    • Everything is working okay for me. Only thing that is annoying me ATM is scrolling. I am finding if I scroll just a little bit, sometimes it will have no acceleration and if I scroll just a little bit more it will have it.

      • +1

        Same.

There are a few threads on this in Reddit and it got picked up by AndroidPolice site as well.

I took mine to JB and they said it's not a defect and wouldn't issue a refund. It is what it is. Hopefully a firmware update will fix this.

Apparently, an issue only for some and fixed for some by updating the firmware to the latest version. Not in my P7P though.

        • -4

Hmm, mines still brand new in box, guess I'll be returning it afterall!

        • I have done the update and it fixed the problem for me. Hope yours can be fixed soon.

    • -4

I'll be going back to my Samsung. Too many compromises for a flagship.

      • Like what, maybe you're used to Samsung
Pixels aren't meant to be 2k phones like iPhones anymore, just a good quality no fuss pure option.

You should get a good price selling anyway once these initial deals are finished

        • -1

My biggest gripe would be the speakers. The actual qualtiy is fricking amazing but they sound terribly unbalanced. My samsung sounds equal from both left and right speakers (holding horizontally) whereas my pixel has a lot more sound coming out of the right speaker. This is fixable by manually adjusting the stereo sound balance but it also affects headphones/earphones.

Here's a thread on reddit that perfectly describes the issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/y30q6p/pixel_7…

The fingerprint sensor is a downgrade. I really like the animation of it and it worked well yesterday but this morning it took a good few tries before recognising me. The utrasonic ones on the samsungs have been genuinely flawless for me.

No vibrant option like samsung for the displays, as a result, everything looks very dul.

I could go on lol. Again, none of these are a BIG deal, but it's a $1300 phone sooooo.

          • @wizko: Yeah none perfect in short of getting an IPhone max Pro for $2200.

For me I didn't want or need the best, so the Pixel 7 128gb was a cheap enough upgrade after all the deals and trade in about $300-400 and few years newer than the pixel 5 (which was still fine btw, that rear scanner is great).

Face unlock works well, maybe just scan the thumb again from more angles.

No point spending a fortune on phones lol.

          • @wizko: The speakers have no dynamics at all, don't know how you thought they were fricken amazing lol

            • @G-rig: Just received your phone today? Yeah I dunno I liked the speakers other than the stereo balance. How are you finding the phone in general so far?

              • @wizko: Haven't noticed the stereo balance myself really, do you notice it in portrait mode? Not really worth adjusting if it affects the balance on headphones. Not sure if can adjust EQ, just nothing that good about the speakers really.

It's not too bad, much like my pixel 5 just bigger screen. The pro is massive so glad I got this one, and not worth spending too much. One handed swiping is a bit harder with the bigger screen but not sure if the gboard history got copied, guess so.

Can't say I notice it being any faster etc. The fingerprint scanner is a bit annoying compared to the hardware one on back and doesn't always work. Face unlock struggles in low light. Probably fine overall though, don't know if it feels like a $1000 phone. The piano finish nice but Super slippery, but got a spigen case on now which is great.

                • @G-rig: Your second last sentence says it all. It's a nice phone but not too sure if it's a $1300 phone.

The stereo balance problem is only present in landscape mode. And yep the fingerprint scanner is optical, significantly slower than the S21 / S22 series, and all older phones with dedicated ones on the side and back.

In any case, I'm back on my Samsung, sold off the pixel on fb marketplace for a little loss but it is what it is 🤷

                  • @wizko: well I guess if there's nothing wrong with your samsung then no need to upgrade (similar to the Pixel 5 which is fine but upgraded anyway).

They will probably get the next gen fingerprint scanner right, but sounds like it's better than the Pixel 6. Face doesn't always work but pretty handy when it does.

Wouldn't pay $999 for the Pixel 7 but still good for $300-400 after all the discounts, trade ins and bonuses. Didn't see the point of spending more on a Pro. The pixel 7 doesn't seem any faster than the 5, but have posted it for trade-in anyway now.

    • +1

Pixel 7 non pro 128, happy with all of the above. No bugs yet. Camera is great, screen is nice - works better in sunlight. Had it since Thursday.
Coming from Samsung S20 FE 5G, very happy I made the swap.

      • -1

Is that a new model from google? "Pixel 7 non pro"?

  • what sort of GB size are you guys buying and why?

    • +1

128GB is plenty enough for most and it's the most popular one being bought from what I am following in social media.

      • Same 128gb is fine for me, only used about half that storage on my pixel 5. You don't typically need as much storage these days with streaming of music and video services, and cloud based apps. It's not like the days of trying to store 30,000 songs on your device (and still doesn't fit your whole collection).

Just got the non pro, cheapest option but fine and noticeably bigger than the pixel 5. Most of the more expensive options are just a money grab these days (and only other differences are the bigger screen, telephoto lens and 4gb ram).

  • +5

So I did this today in store and it was pretty straight forward.

    • Went online and processed the trade in, I had a pixel 6 pro, and got a trade in for $450. You fill in your details and once its completed you get 2 emails, one for the $450 coupon and the $300 coupon

NOTE: Once you complete the trade in process, you have about 2 weeks to send it to the company who runs the trade in, so it gives you ample time to backup old phone. In the email you receive the return postage label and instruction on how to return. You don't actually give the trade in phone to JB

    • Talk to a staff person and they do the whole sales thing and mention that you have the 2 vouchers.

    • At the register they ring up the phone, pixel 7 pro in my case, and they scan the 2 vouchers that was sent to you via email and then pay the difference which was $549.

    • Make sure you get the Google nest hub, the new chromecast 4K and the $100 gift card. Total of about $350 worth of bonus.

    • The $100 Gift card can't be used to pay for the phone, as its a next time purchase gift card. I bought a 30w wall charger for $35 with the gift card as the "next" purchase.

    • Which store did you go to? Seems like out of stock at most places.

      • U can order online and pay $5 for toll express

      • Went to the Miranda (NSW) store. I bought the last Pixel 7 Pro that they had in stock.

  • I feel bad for people trading in a Pixel 6, I mean didn't you just pay $1000+ for that 12 months ago?

That's not good value to me, but I guess with Pixel 7 deals everywhere it will tank prices anyways.

    • +2

If you got a deal at launch last year and paid $800 or $850 for a new Pixel 6 and are now getting $600 for it, it's not really a great loss.

Don't feel bad for people and what they like to do, live your life mate 👍

      • Yeah $200 loss is nothing, people waste more on other stuff.

Haven't wiped my Pixel 5 just yet but may as well now. Just waiting on a case from ebay (mon-tues), the phones are slippery as without one.

$220 trade isn't the best considering bought for $795 Mar '21 (forgot to do a price protection within a year they got down to about $600). Could probably sell for $350, new fabric cover for $30-40). Still claim 50% tax deduction anyway.

Almost worth keeping for a spare, but usually good to have it subsidise the new one).

      • -1

They're not getting $600 for it, their getting $300 or $450 trade in value.

        • +1

he can always sell it privately if you think you can get more / be bothered dealing with idiots etc.

        • +1

$300 from JB too.. doesn't that count?

  • +1

So I've not received my redemption for nest hub and chrome tv or voucher. Store was adamant since it's been an online order it all arrives vs SMS and email. If I had done it in store then they could help. Guess I'll wait till Monday; picked up phone yesterday. Got the lemongrass colour. It's great so far. Colour looks like glow in the dark material when it's not glowing. It's growing on me.

    • Yes buy in-store can redeem immediately, online will be within 7 days.

Yes, no one has yet, barely even been 1-2 business days.
      should be fine ;)

      • Return postage is provided but do you send the phone in the box? I am just wondering if there is any damage in transit then who covers it?

        • do you mean for the trade in? they email you all the forms just print and take to post office
          use own packaging

  • Can someone do a sanity check for me here if I'm looking to get the Pixel 7 Pro $1449
Spoke with JB yesterday, $220 to trade in my Pixel 5, $300 bonus trade in credit/coupon, $300 port in credit/coupon gift card to a telstra $69pmonth, 12 month telstra plan (which I need some advice on how to get that port in credit ive heard about), nest hub and chromecast (resell value $200?) +$100 gift card
Total up front cost for phone $329?

    • +1

$300 port in credit/coupon gift card to a telstra $69pmonth

I saw someone mention this yesterday, so I went back to check and it was you lol I had a look for the deal afterwards and found this so you can show them that page. Make sure you do this FIRST so you can use the gift card on your phone purchase.

Total up front cost for phone $329?

You cannot use the $100 gift card to pay for the phone. You will need to pay $629 (1449 - 220 - 300 - 300) at JB, but you get:

      • Pixel 7 Pro 256gb
      • Chromecast
      • Google Nest Hub
      • $100 JB Gift Card (for a future order)

How much you value the Chromecast and Nest Hub is up to you, but resell value is going down as not only JB, but HN is also giving those away with Pixel 7 order.

      • You found me 😊
Yeah gotcha, I might try sell the GC and because I wont use it and get rid of the other Google bits cheap
Do you know much of the port in credit that Telstra hands out? Is it $20 a month? And how do I go about getting it do you know?

        • +1

I've never actually done it myself, but a lot of users from here have had success (probably where you read about the $300 JB GC for porting into telstra too)

      • It seems HV is giving away these too, makes that deal even better.

But resale will be garbage as you say.

        • The HC deal? How so?

          • @retnup: Someone mentioned they gave it to them.

        • What is HV?

  • My assessment is that this is a pandemic phone so the feature upgrades are minimal vs the pixel 6 so I'm going to get the pixel 8 next year…

    • +2

My assessment is that this is a pandemic phone

      What is a pandemic phone?

    • Is that why it has 7 day isolation period for bonus codes?

    • It's very Marginal gains or differences with the new model of anything these days mate.

Depends what you are upgrading from, but don't feel the 7 is that different from the 5, just bigger screen and no doubt the camera is better. Not complaining as the 5 was great and compact, and could have done me for another year or two easily.

  • No consistency between different stores.
Both me and my partner traded our phones in.
Picked up from one store, after asking $100 was provided.
In the other JB store 5 JB hi-fi employees telling me I'm wrong (including store manager), $100 will be emailed … Store manager said he knew exactly what the policy was and told me to check my email …
Nothing in my email yet though..

    • They didn't even ask us for an email… Just phone number (instore purchase). No SMS to be seen yet.

      • +1

Sorry, I should have specified that we both placed online orders.
1 store gave a physical gift card after we asked.
The other store manager just refused (for the other order).
(We had 2 different stores because one was not in stock in the first store.

        • +1

lol, you might receive another $100 gift card via email .. SCORE!

          • +1

@googoogaga: I'll report back to the OB community in the coming days :-)
They did ask invoice back, and went in the system to then create/load the gift card.

            • +1

@johnmelb: i reckon you might score a second $100 card but perhaps they put a note on the system to NOT send you one now if you've already picked up. C&C should be over email/sms not in-person delivery as the order was online.

  • -1

I emailed JB support about the coupons for items…

    (JB Hi-Fi Support)

    15 Oct 2022, 2:28 pm AEDT

    Hi Xxxxx,

    Thank you for your email.

As advertised on the website at time of purchase, these will be emailed to you within 7 days of order completion.

    Kind Regards,

    JB Hi-Fi Customer Service

I also phoned my local store and was told that probably Monday they will be sent out via email/text

    • I reckon Monday at the earliest.. to get you back into the store next weekend and buy more shtuff.

    • -1

      Just wait lol.

I could go another nest Audio (pair as stereo) instead of the hub 2. Neither really necessary but handy I suppose.

    • Nothing received y'day

      • check back thurs!

        • Yes no rush just joining everyone on asking.
Hasn't even been 3 business days.

  • Credit card is not authorised!!!

Anyone had the same issue? I have 2 cards, same error. They emailed back saying a few bank cards had the same issue.

    • Yep.
I even went in store to ask there. The salesperson said I could buy it at full price today (and get the bonus gifts as last day today) and when I sorted out the trade In issue they would refund me the trade in price + $300

    • check that the $1 hasn't gone through and if it has, contact square trade up to get the $1 credit. mine failed but they still charged $1 (proper charge not auth).

  • Do you need to include chargers, USB cables earphones? Would this affect the trade in value if you just provide the phone alone?

Also are people preferring the non pro over the pro model?

    • +1

If you read the faq, it is not required to send in the accessories, just the device only.

    • +1
      1. No, just phone
2, non pro as I like a smaller phone and have no need for telephoto lens
      • Same no need and it's quite a noticeable amount bigger than pixel 5. Just get the cheapest one ;).

And never send a charger back lol

  • -1

Got the Pixel 7 for my mum. Initial impressions:
    * The phone appears to have a few bugs with the phone getting stuck on blank screens and I ended up restarting the phone on 2 occasions already.
    * The finger print reader appears to be fine (so far)
    * The phone seemed to get pretty warm during the set up process
    * I’m a bit underwhelmed with the camera and I had really high expectations after reading all the reviews. It’s much better than her A20, but I was hoping that it would be on par with my iPhone 13 Pro. Some of the indoor shots that I took appeared washed out and grainy compared to my IP 13 Pro. I’m going to play with it over a few days and see how it goes.

I ordered it online and the staff told me that I will be sent an sms or an email for the gift card and other items.

    • +1

Yep, I also was puzzled that the camera did not perform to my expectations (comparing to pixel 3 and Samsung s22). Front camera seems actually worse than pixel 3's one (face details are noticeably blurrier).

I downloaded and installed a security update (73Mb) and an update for the camera app (available in google store with huge 350Mb). These seem to have done the trick. However, I am yet to take it for the full testing.

Agree that the phone gets quite hot during setup.

Not sure if it is worth the upgrade but with my Pixel 3 I could not wait any longer…

    • +1

Not sure about the 7, but the camera of the Pixel 7 Pro is #1 according to these guys:
      https://www.dxomark.com/smartphones/

What about your experience with the battery?
I have the Pixel 5 currently, which used to give me 24h (no longer the case). I haven't moved to the Pixel 6 because battery seems to last less, and I guess the 7 and 7 Pro seem to be a bit power hungry still, which, if true, is a deal breaker for me.

      • +1

It's no surprise the bigger screen would use more power, despite the bigger battery. Another reason I chose the 7 over the 7 pro as I think the long battery life of the Pixel 5 is great. The phone is a bit bigger and noticeably heavier than the 5 (the gorilla piano glass finish would be the cause in an attempt to make it feel more premium, slippery af without a case so bit pointless. The battery usage should be similar to the pixel 5 hopefully, slightly bigger battery to compensate for the screen.

Will monitor it this week now I'm using it, now that the case and screen protector is on - btw I always get the Amfilm ones from Amazon and confirm they work well, with the spigen case too.

        Other points:
        - wouldn't worry about heat during setup, your PC would use more power when installing stuff too.
        - haven't tested the camera too much but seems good.
        - Havant noticed any scrolling issue, maybe just on the Google now page (swipe right of main screen).
        - back spacing text seems a bit different at times.
        - speakers could be better, sounds a bit more hollow compared to pixel 5, which still wasn't great compared to pixel 3XL.
        - face unlock good during daylight, struggles in low light, wouldn't work at night I'd say.
        - fingerprint scanner not as good as hardware one and not always reliable. Have rescanned thumbs and will see how it goes.

        • PS just had a 5g dropout (boost mobile), had to restart the phone.

  • Did anyone get an "Invalid IMEI error"? Mate is trying to trade in his 4a 4g and it won't accept. Double checked the phone model and number. It worked fine for me when I did mine

    • Yup having this exact same issue right now. Annoying as it's looking like I might not be able to get the Google promo if I can't sort the trade in out by today.
