I ended up with the HN deal - Google Pixel 7 Pro 128GB
    $828 - $54 (prepaid MasterCards) - $30 bonus Flybuys -$150 GC = under $600

HN gave me the 256GB by mistake, they rang me to ask if I'd return it.

It's a 40km trip, basically 1.5 hours of my time + fuel. I'm going to tell them to send someone to swap it? Do you think that's fair? Do I even need to return it? 😬

Honest mistake on their part, but it shouldn't cost me time/money.

    • +2

Your invoice may not be valid for warranty if it says 128gb…don't think google would give you too much stress tho

      And fk HN

      • I didn't check the invoice?

Yeah, I just feel bad for the kid who looked after me 🤣

    • But you opened it already no?

      • They called me as I was arriving home.

        I live 19kms away.

Technically I'm stuck now, can't even use the phone.

    • Who would have thought that you'd have issues with Optus and Harvey Norman, the number of people who can't get id verified is a joke for new mobile plans and everything.. plus all the time.

I still think the JB deal was great for the p7:
      $999 - $300 - $100 (GC) - ~$140 (sell google stuff)
      = $460 - $220 trade = 240.. cheap upgrade

Although getting my trade send back, billed $220 but can sell for $400..

    • +1

Yes they can ask to swap it for what you paid for. However you can ask for that to be done in a way that does not put you out time or money.

A typical and reasonable option would be for them to send you the correct phone via post, and include a ready to use self addressed returns bag. I would make it very clear to them that if they choose this, return postage is at their risk. You will take a video of it being dropped in a mailbox (if you don't want to go into store to lodge it) and accept no further responsibility. Getting a lodgment receipt is probably worth it for you just in case.

The best option is for them to send a courier with the correct phone. Then give you time to do a data transfer (if you have started using the 256GB one) then send a courier to collect the 256GB phone. If it is unopened or ready to go, then the courier could just swap them. You can reasonable ask that the courier is book for a specific pick up / delivery time, or a window of time that does not put you out at all. They are unlikely to want to do this, but it is not unreasonable for you to insist on a method that does not put you out at all.

Have you used it yet? I can't imagine it is worth it for them to bother, but who knows.

You could also ask for things like gift cards or phones accesories for your trouble if they want you to do the swap in a way that puts you out. I would not be driving back though.

      • this is great advice.

Agreed they really should just write this off as shrinkage, it's a lot of hassle for them especially if it's been opened for very little gain.

It's not like you will start a trend either since this is their fault not yours.

      • Yeah,

        I'm happy to swap it.

Technically I'm paying, or have paid for a phone I can't use.

I think I'm going to ring them tomorrow, or Monday and basically ask them to send someone to my house to drop off my actual model and collect this model.

I'm not sure I should have to wait days, or let's be honest with Australia Post probably a week for my phone to arrive and then actually drive down to the post office and do them a favour to drop off the phone I'm sending back.

I'm a nice guy, but I don't think I should be put out even a minute of my time.

I guess I'll have to see what they say, hope they write it off.

Either they waste money in postage both ways express and tracked, or they send an employee and costs them 1.5 hours from the store to my house.

Or they write off the $150!

        • What a sh1t show..

Didn't you realise they gave you the Wrong one at the time?

Or they write off the $150!

The price to upgrade from 128 to 256gb is $150 isn't it? Just take it out of that.

CANCELLING OR NOT SENDING IN YOUR TRADED-IN MOBILE.

    • Applied and got a mobile trade in for $20
    • Got $300 trade in coupon for Pixel 7
    • Went instore and used both $20 and $300 coupon (no issues)

I contacted trade-in square people on day 5 what are my options if i cancel my trade and fees involved.

Was told since I used e-gift card they will charge that to my card ($20), but i wont be charged for coupon ($300) or black listed from Square.

I opted to cancel and my cc qas charged.

    Message from square..

    Message 1:

    Hi [name],

We can help cancel your trade-in.
As you have redeemed the JB Hi-Fi eGift card issued, we are required to charge your credit card $20 as per your trade-in value.

    Message 2:

    Hi [name].

You will not be blacklisted, or charged $300 for the coupon.

We will go ahead charging your account and cancel your order.

No other issues and ill probs get $150-200 for my phone on FB.

Your milage may vary but this was my experience.

    • Correct, can also get almost double selling mine privately too.

    • I dint not use the trade in coupon, do I need to call them back?

Cool, Just did this was worried if they did charge an additional 300 on the trade in phone. The trade in prices are a rip off.
$50 for phone that was bought for $700 less than an year, can get atleast 200-300 for this on FB, very good condition.

      • Same for Pixel 5, $220 when eBay sold listings are easily $70-$200 more.

Ps. End up having to type my pin in a heap more, both the face unlock and fingerprint scanner fail at night.. the pixel 5 didn't miss a beat ever. Seems your face has to be fairly close to the phone for it to work sometimes (in low light). Maybe thumbs are too dry lol.

    • Did you need to put an IMEI number in when you do the trade? Or do you just select the phone and thats it? I'm pretty keen on this deal but none of my phones are eligible for trade in.

      • +1

        You have to provide IMEI

      • +1

Yeah you need IMEI.. i think they check if it hasn't been flagged as stolen.

  • Any recommendations for wireless chargers? Screen protectors? Cases?

    :))))

    • +1

Spigen is my go-to for any phone case.
Screen protector…..Whitestone seems to be the recommendation.
      Wireless charger…no idea

    • I ordered this 'Hybrid glass' screen protector

      https://row.mous.co/products/hybrid-glass-screen-protector-i…

Let me know if you are planning on buying, I could give you a 20% code from studentbeans.

As the case, I'm using Spigen Hybrid, black variant.
      https://www.progadgets.com.au/spigen-google-pixel-7-pro-ultr…

The black rubbery TPU around the case is a bit slippery, but not as much as the phone. I'm using the same case on Pixel 5 for 1.5 years and it hasn't gotten yellow yet. But it attracts fingerprints and scratches. Provides pretty solid protection tho.

      • -1

Why is it so expensive? I swear I bought these for under $10 on eBay!

        $30? Gezz

        • Spigen is good, eBay plus mine was $22-$5 voucher.

I used to have an ultra hybrid on pixel 3xl, pretty good idea to get dust in, not too hard to clean. As long as the case provides more grip.

Interested to see how the protector goes, could be the kind of thing worth spending more on so that the fingerprint scanner works properly ( but it's probably a software problem). I haven't hear of those liquid glass ones before but sounds interesting.

$10 would be a generic one.

      • I've ordered a Mous case as I had one with my old Samsung S10e and it's still going strong after nearly 3 years.

How are the quality on their hybrid glass protectors?

        • Still waiting for mine, will update you once I receive

      • hey mate, any chance you can send me that studentbeans discount?

  • JB now doing $700 port in bonus for Telstra $69 plan.
$700 + Trade in credit + $300 bonus + $20 per month for port in bonus credit from Telstra.

    • +1

Is that only $49 a month?

      Link?

That would probably be the best deal.

I got my Google Pixel 7 Pro for under $600 after discounts, but this would work out cheaper.

Telstra is good too, I would of definitely switched from Vodafone to Telstra.

I would have to buy the cheapest eligible phone for trade in for that $300 bonus though.

I'd be tempted to try sell my unit brand new, and go in on this deal.

      • After the port in credits yep, $49
Can't find the link but yeah $700 gift card for 24 month plan
Was on stickers all over the store this morning

        • There's no information online?

          $49 a month is insane value, and I assume $300 off the $1,300 + a $700 gift card.

I pay $45 for SimOnly through Vodafone.

I have to work out the cheapest phone they do trade in with, and what condition it needs to be!

        • Does that mean the phone costs $1000? Not including the $700 gift card.

          • @Nickelback: It will cost whatever is owed after your trade in value and the bonus $300
Yes, then you get $700 GC you can use to pay part of the phone or not.

        • How can I get the port in credit? Do I have to ask Telstra?

          • @BadPanda: The guy at JB knew, so probably best to ask staff.

    • What is $300 bonus

      • Trade in your phone for a pixel 7 or 7 pro and you get $300 bonus gift card

    • It's text and talk within Aus only, does not include international calls.

    • Is the $20 per month for port in bonus credit from Telstra guaranteed or do you need to hassle the call centre staff to make this happen?

  • Basically you're locked into the $69 plan, or $49 afterwards.

You have to buy the phone outright, or pay for it.

So let's say $0 value trade in, $300 bonus and $700 GC you basically pay $1000, the Pixel 7 Pro costs you $300.

Depends on value of phone for trade in, but at $300 it's still amazing value

Issue is, even a Pixel 3 is $10 trade in and they sell for $250+ online

So you're not really getting a phone for $300, maybe $500 with the trade in value you lose.

Can you not send it in, and they charge you $10?

I paid $594 through Optus, which is good! But $49 for the plan through Telstra would of been good.

Availability til 26th he mentioned to me.

    • Hey mate, just reading your comments. Do you have to buy the phone outright? What store was this at?

      • I think you do have to buy it outright, I just rang a random store in Adelaide after it was mentioned here.

        It's in-store, he said til 26th.

    • +1

I started trade in process, then asked to cancel the order. Was only charged $10, no blacklisting.
Only thing is that you probably can't "trade the phone in" a second time (IMEI being saved).

      • I don't have a phone to trade, I thought I could make it up! Too much of a hassle haha

  • funny no one has mention vodafone, saw a popup $700 off but 36m contract.

    • I'm with them, their deals suck.

      • +2

Yeah just saw a pop-up saying $700 off or something but 36m plan and have to pay it all out not half like Optus lol

I just got a boost bonus data, 365d Sim, insanely cheap and on the Telstra network. They did a free 5g upgrade too ages ago. Got wifi at home so it's plenty of data. Second year on those, no more post pay plans, and always buy phone outright.

  • Just sold the Chromecast with Google TV + Nest Hub Gen 2 for $150 :)
    So phone (Pixel 7) now costed = $999 - $300 - $150 (google stuff)- $100 (Gift card) = $449.. -$220 trade = $229,
but am thinking I'll sell it for $350-400 instead (pixel 5, was $800 new).

Also, this may help some people - i found these tips good to make the fingerprint scanner more reliable.
    https://techbriefly.com/2022/10/17/pixel-7-fingerprint-senso…

    Currently got:
    Screen protector mode = OFF
Screen always on (lock screen , always show time and date) = OFF

With a quality tempered glass shouldn't need that mode on, these amazon ones go alright (AmFilm) but no doubt there are better ones for more $$.
Would prefer less battery use than always on, got a watch and a fitbit already on
I also didn't see the value of scanning the edges of thumbs as they tell you to do, makes it not work reliably.

    • Interesting about the edge of thumbs. I might try not doing them. I get maybe 10-30% success rate at the moment on fingerprints, super annoying compared to my Pixel 5

      • Yeah it's rubbish hey ..
Doing two thumbs each is good I think, and some in different light.

Almost tempting to keep the pixel 5 and sell the 7 lol..
Newer is better I guess, larger screen not bad. It's more reliable after those tips above and face unlock good during the day.

  • Front camera is terrible on 7 pro. My Pixel 5 takes way better photos compared to 7 Pro, however the main camera is miles ahead on 7 pro.

    • How's that even possible? 🤣

      • +1

        Ikr! It's weired.
Their post processing kills the sharpness of the front cam photos. No details at all.

It's just the front cam. I love the bright screen, main camera and the phone itself feels premium.
Main camera is a beast, motion blur, long exposure works perfectly fine.

        https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/y5rskl/the_fro…

        Wtf with negative vote? 🧐

        • I didn't neg you, but you shouldn't worry about that on here 🤣

Maybe adjust settings? Maybe they update it!

I'm coming from Pixel 2 XL, huge upgrade for me and for $600 after discounts it's a bargain!

          • @[Deactivated]: That's alright.

Yep, that's a huge bargain and an upgrade. How you had been surviving with the 2XL? My 2XL battery was nearly dead and then I moved to P5. But now I think I should've kept P5 for another year. I miss the size and weight of the p5.

            • +1

@DeepMidWicket: It's given me no issues!

I do charge it alot, but honestly it's going strong!

I got like 1000 tabs open through chrome too!

              Some apps chew the battery!

This deal was just too good not to upgrade, I feel I should of got ahead instead of waiting til it does shit itself 🤣

            • +1

@DeepMidWicket: Same, was nothing wrong with the pixel 5 and still isn't, more about people wanting to upgrade ha. They meant to be sending mine back, will decide which one to sell.

The speaker is rubbish too, not even as good sounding as the pixel 5. Hollow sounding with no dynamics or bass. Maybe they'll fix it on the pixel 8. If it wasn't for all the discounts and bonuses I wouldn't have bothered at all. Tax claim anyway I suppose.

I don't care too much about the front camera, the rear one seems good thought on the pixel 7.

              Death to the selfie haha.

              • @G-rig: Ps. The voice to text function seems better on The Pixel 7 even though they are both Android 13, new features such as 'send', 'smiley emoji' etc.

Suppose best to keep the newer phone, 5y of guaranteed updates, better main camera, bigger screen. Downsides- fingerprint scanner, probably worse battery, more weight and size, speakers.

        • Oh man now that you've mentioned it I'm gonna notice.

I had the P5 and the front camera and size were the two main reasons i skipped the P6 last year.

    I was surprised by this!

    Pixel 7 Pro wins

  • ordered online afternoon of the 14th, received p7p on 19th. Still haven't received any bonus/gift card codes. Anyone in the same boat?

    • +1

I was told to wait 7 days from the date it was delivered

    • +1

if it helps, i ordered same day as you, received on the 20th, and i also havent recevied bonus/gift cards.
was going to contact JB tomorrow, but just saw bargainsgrabber's comment about 7 days from date delivered

    • Ordered 15th evening. Delivered/received 19th.
Called JB today 24th, asked to wait 7 days from 19th.

      • God, it should be from date of order

    • +1

Update: I just received an email from JB for the Nest and CCWGTV. Ordered on 16th, delivered on 21st

      • Did you just give away your code accidentally?

        • Nope? I’ve already placed an order and it’s ready for pickup at Canberra Civic

        • +1

CCWGTV = ChromeCast With Google TV

      • Update again: Received my gift card email around 10pm same day as the Google accessories email

    • Also received my codes for chromecast/nest today!

      • Just got gift card too

  • Got my Nest Hub and Chromecast vouchers today via email. Placed online (click & collect) order on 15th. Collected the phone on 18th.
Haven't received the gift card yet. It's mentioned in the email "Your bonus Gift Card will be sent in a separate email which should be received within the next 48 hours."

    • Hmm, I ordered my 7 Pro online on the 16th and it was delivered the next day, 17th. I still haven't received any vouchers. Yesterday JB emailed me the invoice for the phone yesterday though

    • So they updated their emails, because my email read:

Your bonus Gift Card will be sent in a separate email which should be received within the next 24 hours. Please ensure to check junk or spam folders to ensure this isn’t incorrectly filtered by your email host.

Email with gift card came from "JB Hi-Fi eCard <[email protected]>"
I didn't receive it within 24hours, but did receive it within 48hours of receiving the vouchers. Didn't have to say anything to JB to get it, it just came through.
I would be more worried about the vouchers since they will expire end of October (gift card can be redeemed anytime).
Also one of my local JBs wasn't showing stock online for the google devices - yet they had plenty in-store.

    • Also just got the gift card via email about an hour ago.

  • Anybody has problem with calls dropping after 3 seconds with Pixel 7 Pro?
It goes away after restarting but happens again after a while…

    • +1

Someone on whirlpool forums mentioned it was something to do with WiFi connectivity and happens in specific cases only. Worth a visit to thread in general discussion. If i am able to find the post, will send the link over dm.

      • Thanks
I spent the whole morning with Google support and Boost. None of them could help!
Looks like the problem is wifi calling.
        Some solutions are:
        - enable IPv6 on router
        - disable WiFi calling!
Will give it a try tomorrow.

  • Received the bonus coupons today. Full 7 days after collection.

    • +1

      Received gift card

  • I'm not used to larger phone (came from Pixel 5) so I needed a solution to hold the phone. Settled on a popsocket magsafe popgrip and a Peak Design Everyday case (magsafe compatible). The popsocket works pretty decently on the bare phone, as that arrived before the case. Case arrived today and it's great, much stronger magnetism and nice to hold. It's nice that I can reuse the popsocket for future phones (assuming it lasts that long).

    • +1

These cases are expensive, basically 10% the cost of my phone for some fabric 😬 god dam

I have big hands, but you're also right you need one of those back things to hold!

    • How your meant to put the phone in ya pocket with that on the back?

I also came from the pixel 5, really handy size. I went with the 7 (not pro) as it's only a bit bigger and can still use with one hand, but the screen is almost as big as the pro anyway.

Maybe thing is having a case, up to the individual how much they spend. Still cheaper than a new screen if you drop it. Spigen rugged armour from pro gadgets eBay was a good choice. $22- $5 off eBay plus.

      • +1

The popsocket can be pushed in and pulled out when you need it.

      • I use back pocket normally, or always hold it.

Hence case and screen protector has saved me a few times.

  • Easiest way to copy Pixel 2 to Pixel 7 Pro?

Does it copy everything? I've never done this before!

I'm worried about all my Chrome Tabs!

  • Anyone able to restore the missing media player controls on lock screen? At the moment you have to pull the drop down to see them - pretty sure it's on the list of fixes but couldn't find anything else in the settings. Cheers
