Suggest a good Laser Mono printer for Home use

Guys,

Could you please suggest a cheap, reliable, economical mono laser printer - I just need it for home use only. My usuage is low - I print about say 10-20 pages a month. The printer should be such that there are cheaper generic toners available for it.

I had a Fuji Xerox P205b. It was cheap but not reliable….After printing just about 100 pages it has started giving me a paper jam error, and there was no paper stuck in it. Tried resetting it etc but with no luck.

Brother HL-2130 or 2132? About $37 from the usual suspects.

Low-end Brother's are crazy cheap but in my experience they are actually very good and reliable. I've noticed them around in commercial use too, behind shop counters and reception desks, which probably speaks for itself.

      • find them too expensive to run

had good luck with samsungs that have the 3,000 pg carts

      • yeah, my brother mono has been going 10 years.. I've done nearly 15000(?) prints on it.
        Very happy with Brother.

i pair it with a canon mx885 for duplex scanning, photocopy and colour print.
they work well as a team.

When the drum eventually dies I'll be getting a Brother mono duplex.

Definitely go for the brother models, and use generic toner.

Definitely go a Brother 2130/2132 for around that $37 price point.

When the toner runs out get a generic one like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/140709740864?ssPageName=STRK:MEWA…

    Can't do much better

    • ah interesting

apparently they can use the Brother high capacity cartridges but they don't advertise the fact

that makes it very cheap to run assuming you dont hit the drum/conductor ceiling of 12,000 pages (that's 5 carts)

not sure how much a drum costs but you can be sure its over $40!

i currently maintain Samsung MFDs that take <$25 3,000pg carts and utilised no drums or conductors or that stuff… bit more exxy though

We have a Brother 2142, and have never had a scrap of trouble with it. The only real difference I can find between it and the 2132 is that it prints marginally quicker. I'd have no hesitation in buying the 2132 if I was wanting another mono.

tonyjzx don't suppose you know of a good price on those? Ours is just starting to give us low-toner issues. For some reason hubby is hesitant to do the tape thing, but he just pulls it out and gives it a bit of a shake, seems to work fine (for now)

10-20 pages a month? might be easier just going to officeworks every time and printing it there!

I wouldn't pay much for a printer, imo the toner would clump before using it all.

I used to work there, so it pains me to even drive by.

      But fair enough..
With that level of printing, perhaps an inkjet mfc is more worthwhile.

However, if you already have one, or really really don't need scanning/photocopying etc.. then a brother mono laser will probably come with enough starter ink to last you years anyway.

    Samsung HL-1865

WiFi Printing through your network(optional) just click the button to turn the feature off., I purchased one off eBay for $69. I've printed 500 pages so far & still 75% toner left besides that the paper feed is down the bottom and comes out the top(prevents paper jams) prints are EXTREMELY fast. I would highly suggest this printer!

  • Hoping for a deal on one of these (currently at $49) Brother HL-2130 from DSE or Brother HL-2132 from Officeworks.
