Solar Recommendations & Advice

Opting to get solar for my place. Tiled, single storey, single phase power, Easy West split panels.

Got a few quotes, not super heavy users of electricity but do have refrigerated heating n cooling. Will I get an EV in the future? Yes. Induction, not likely as I cook a lot of Asian dishes so that's a maybe. Battery? Yes once it get cheaper.

Also a big decision is the inverter, go the newer Gen24 with ability for battery integration or go the workhorse Fronius Primo.

I am considering these options, this is not including the $1400 Vic Rebate and the Vic interest free loan $1400.

(1) 7.8kw system using Fronius Gen24 6.0 (6kw) with Q.Maxx G4 410W panel (19 panels, consumption monitoring) $9165

(2) 8.93kw system using a Fronius Primo 8.2.1-8200W (8.2kw) with Jinko Tiger N type 470W panels (19 panels, consumption monitoring) $9429

(3) 8.93kw system using a Sungrow SG8.0rs 8000W (8kw) with Jinko Tiger N type 470W panels (19 panels, consumption monitoring) $8568

Any other recommendations and/or installers in Melbourne (East) suburbs would be great! Thanks y'all.

Personally I’d always get the biggest system you can put on your roof. I’d also take Fronius over SunGrow.

I would pick option number 2 easily
Fronius over sungrow and also because of the panels wise.
you will be getting 470W instead of Q max 410w,
that means you have the latest panels tech and also less panels to work with on your roof

  • i got a Sungrow SG5K-D (Premium) and 18 × 370W Suntech Power HIPower Series - i think its a 6.66kw
STP370S-B60/Wnhm for around $3190 out of pocket cost installed. Has not missed a beat up until the recent feed in tariff drops ours bills were all credit but now feed in tariff is only around 5.3c

Which ever way you decide get plenty of quotes some company's were thousands of dollars different for the same system.

you can easily check by multiplying 18 by 370…

      Go maths!

  • Can you export 8kw?

  • Seems expensive… or am I just a tight ass?

  • How much do you use daily? How much do you expect to generate daily?

Don’t build a system that will ‘make money of exports’ coz that’s not a thing anymore, but you probably want to consider enough generation during the day to cover for nighttime usage for when you get batteries.

    • Your point is completely valid, except origin recently put out a deal for 20 cents per kwh exported I believe, if you stay with them for 2 years. The solar system also might have to be done through them, so maybe the feed in rate is eaten up in the cost of the system anyway. You'd have to look into it.
