1590

Hey Oz Bargain Community,

Been a little while since you've heard from us/we've posted a deal, but we've been working hard on some important improvements in the background. One of which is further improving logistics, as we know how understandably important delivery is to you. Part of this included a tour of an Australia Post parcel sorting facility. We learned so much about all the little things we can do to give your orders the best chance for speedy sorting and delivery. We've asked these questions before, but the information appears to only be available by seeing the parcel sorting machines in action. Among other changes, you may start to notice the shape and colour of our packaging change for certain products over time. To action some of these requires a bit of extra capital, as such we've got a terrific 40% off deal below for a bit of a win-win cash flow bump. It's exciting to see the changes come to life and the speedier results that follow!

We're offering you a 40% discount off our much loved Brazil São Paulo Single Origin, only $14.99 per 500g (usually $24.99 per 500g), and $26.39 per 1kg (usually $43.98 per 1kg), for orders placed until 11/10/2022. You can pick from the available green circle dispatch dates on the cart page. There's two or more available scheduled dispatch dates per week until the end of November currently available to reserve. Dispatch can happen for you as near as tomorrow (Friday) and as far as the last Wednesday in November. Once a given dispatch date is at full capacity the green circle will be removed and date will turn red, first in best dressed :)

Some helpful info:

  • You're welcome to place multiple orders scheduled for dispatch at various dates (delayed dispatch) to make the most of this deal
  • One dispatch per order
  • If you select 500g as a quantity please ensure you also select 500g as the packaging option. If 500g is selected as a quantity with 1kg as the packaging selection the product will show as "unavailable"
  • Complimentary gift notes can be written in the "special instructions for seller" box on the cart page."
  • The largest bag size we use is 1kg and it has a zip (it's resealable), for example if you order 4kg with 1kg packaging you will receive 4 x 1kg bags, you will not receive a single huge 4kg bag. 500g bag packing is also available for orders larger than 500g this is an extra $3.60 per kg including the discount (normally $6 extra per kg) to cover the extra bag/s, label/s and time it takes to pack
  • Flat Rate Shipping $6.99 No Delivery Company Preference, $7.99 Shipit-Courier's Please, $8.99 Australia Post, $12.99 Express Post, Live Quote Shipping at the checkout for Same Day Delivery as Dispatch in VIC in the highlighted map areas https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/361387/95314/same_day_…

  • How do I get $26.39 for 1kg? Showing $29.99 for me. Thanks.

    • +5

Change your order to 1x 1kg bag rather than 2x 500gr bags

      • +1

Spot on, appreciate the answer assist, I need to get on your speedy typing skills level :)

    • +1

Nice question to kick off the comments!

On the product page, under the "packaging" menu you can choose between 500g and 1kg bag packaging. It looks like you've currently got 500g packaging selected, once you change to 1kg bag packaging the price will show as $26.39 :)

      • Got it. Thank you.

        • :)

      • TimTam Tom, considered changing the default to 1 x 1kg bag? You'd have sales history to know which is more popular - 1x1kg or 2x500g. My bet's on the first one. :)

        • Tim Tam Tom has a nice ring to it :)

We tried that initially, but it come unstuck when we introduced the 1x500g option. If 1kg packaging it the default, when someone changes the selects 500g as the quantity they'll receive a message saying "unavailable." In the background we're trying to find a solution for this because if someone selects 500g quantity and then manually changes to 1kg packaging then the "unavailable" messaging still appears…a work in progress system.

Nice bet, technically speaking you'd win by a small margin :) I won't get into specifics in terms of sales, but without doubt 2x500g is very popular. Not the majority but a substantial % of orders opt for the 2x500g bags either to mix and match, share the order and maintain freshness (freeze 1 bag while enjoying the other).

  • Among other changes, may start to notice the shape and colour of our packaging change for certain products over time

Curious to know - was this a result of your Auspost tour?

    • +4

      Great question!

100% the changes are a result of the tour, by being able to see how the sorting machines work. We've asked before about if there's any way to speedy up the sorting process, but it seems the only way to get answers with impact is to see the sorting machines in action :)

      • +1

Interesting - care to elaborate a bit more? What specifically did you notice. More out of curiosity than anything.

        • +13

Sure thing, good to be curious :)

I won't get into a whole list of the specifics and resulting changes we're making, but here's an example of a small change in the way we pack an Aust Post ULD (pallet cage). Different sorting facilities have machines suited to different types of parcels e.g. large parcel sorting facility vs. small parcel sorting facility (they're starting to build small parcel sorters in the large parcel facilities…). Having a ULD with mixed small and large parcels slows down the sorting process for the above reason. Another thing in terms of ULD packing is that transport says to pack everything neat and snug to maximise cage space. However, sorting operations request the exact opposite. The machines at the sorting facilities make two attempts to empty the cages. If the cages are packed too snug and neat they won't empty, then will need to move to the other side of the warehouse for manual rearranging and then back to the original tip machine.

          • @LimeBlueCoffee: Interesting. So basically keeping things uniform and loose is the key to swifter logistics?

            • +1

@bemybubble: Spot on, they make a big difference!

The other changes revolve around dispatch time, certain parcel shapes and colour :)

              • @LimeBlueCoffee: I noticed my last subscription delivery came in an orange bag. Is that another change you’re consciously making? What does colour do for sorting, other than make it easy for humans to spot the parcel?

                • +1

@Chazzozz: Ozbargin thread for mail sorting

                • @Chazzozz: @Chazzozz Great questions!

Yes and no…we will be making a conscious effort to change the colour as it does have an impact "other than make it easy for humans to spot the parcel. In terms of the orange change you noticed, truth be told there's be packaging shortages recently. That said from a sorting perspective orange has more of a positive than negative impact, but orange will likely not be the colour of the ideally efficient packaging we're working on. I won't get into too many specifics in terms of how else colour impacts sorting. Getting into detail would expose a weak spot in the sorting system and we'd rather just focus on solving the issue, as opposed to highlighting the problem :)

          • @LimeBlueCoffee: I found that really interesting; thank you.

            • +1

@jong: Glad it was a good read for you :)

    • +1

We've been thinking about changing and improving packaging for a while. However, the Aust Post sorting facility visit has impacted the changes. If we hadn't been thinking about changing packaging and just had the tour, then it would be the 100% reason to change!

  • Thanks, I keep reordering at this price and it's a tasty bean if I have it black or white.

    • Amazing, thank you so much for your continued orders and sharing that terrific feedback!

Very happy to know you're finding our Brazil São Paulo "tasty" whichever way you have it, it certainly is a versatile single origin :)

    • Hey, there’s a song for that! :-D

      Also…great coffee!

      • +1

  • Can this coffee be used for caps and short blacks??

    • +1

Nice question, better safe than sorry!

100% this is a very versatile SO, terrific (and delicious) extraction to suit both milk based and black coffees :)

  • +1

Best coffee i tried so far, and I was not a fan of Brazilian coffee to start with

    • Wonderful to hear, what a terrific compliment to receive!

Sometimes coffee takes a little while to find it's groove, may need to be left to develop for another day or may even be as simple as tweaking the coffee grinder setting :)

    • What didn't you like about Brazilian coffee?

      • +2

Bitterness, usual roast levels. This one is 9/10 on floral-to-chocolate scale, which is usually undrinkable for me. But this particular one is very nice, perhaps it is a lighter roast.

  • +2

I made a purchase just based on OP's prompt and helpful engagement. Just shows how much a little human interaction can help to generate extra sales :)

    • +1

Music to my ears, we're not perfect, but we always strive improve our speed and quality of engagement…a continual work in progress :)

Thank you so much for sharing that terrific feedback and placing your first order with us, it's truly appreciated and an opportunity we won't take for granted!

  • +2

Any fruitier / more acidic single origins on the horizon? These sorts of coffees are my preference, and I’ve seen Lime Blue pretty well regarded on ozbargain so would love to give you guys a go sometime.

    • +2

      Nicely timed question!

Glad the Oz B Community feedback resonates with you, we'd love the opportunity to gain you as a customer. Great news is that I believe the next featured SO we're launching will hopefully be a winner for you. Hold tight it's not too far from launching, likely either later this month or next :)

    • give it a go you won't regret it.

  • +1 for informative post and passionate customer service

    • Fantastic, much appreciated :)

  • Good coffee from these guys, but more than that… Best service from these guys (Tom).

    • Big smile on this side of the screen, wrapped to know we're in your good books for coffee and service, we'll keep working hard to stay there. Thank you so much for sharing such terrific feedback :)

  • Wondering. Will this be part of the SO mystery flight tour?

Because I have that, just received Rwanda

Thanks, your SO deal before the first tour was what started me on my Lime Blue coffee adventure :)

    • +1

Great question, better safe than sorry!

Our Surprise Mystery Flight stops are exclusive at the time of dispatch, as such are not available for individual purchase, so I can confirm our Brazil São Paulo Single Origin will not the be 4th stop.

Very happy to hear your experience with us referred to as a "coffee adventure," music to my ears, glad you're onboard and enjoying the journey :)

      • Just bought 1kg. Thank you for the reply

        • Fantastic, thank you so much for your order, it's truly appreciated!

Glad my answer was helpful :)

  • +1

The last coffee I got from these guys was the best I've ordered from ozbargain. Great stuff.

    • Thank you so much for sharing that outstanding feedback, it's truly appreciated and is going to be hard to top, but we'll sure try :)

  • If I opt for delayed dispatch, when is the coffee roasted? For example, I select November 18, is the coffee roasted days before or do you use the current batch?

    • Nice double check!

We believe fresh is best and roast-to-order, striving for dispatch within 48 business hours of roasting. As such your if you select November 18 dispatch then we'll roast your coffee in November as opposed to roasting is now and letting it sit on a shelf :)

      • Thanks. Ordered 1kg delayed for next month and I have another delayed dispatch order from last month

        • Terrific to hear, thank you so much for your continued orders, they really do mean so much!

Glad my previous response was helpful :)

  • Any chance a deal on the Colombia Spring Water Naturally EA Processed Decaf ?

    Good gear ! Thanks.

    • Also wouldnt mind this :)

      • Sorry to say we won't have any EA Decaf available for the time being. However, good news is that our SWP Decaf is still available :)

    • Me too! The batch I ordered from the last deal is running out 😳

      • Shucks, sounds like you're a few cups away from searching for the coffee emergency button!

We don't currently have our EA Decaf in stock. However, silver lining to this comment is that our delicious SWP Decaf available :)

        • Love your SWP decaf too! Will be keeping an eye out for a deal on it…

          • @AncientWisdom: Terrific to hear, very happy our SWP Decaf is a winner for you :)

    • Appreciate you taking the time to reach out!

We sold the last of our green/raw coffee EA stock on hand a little while back. At present due to rising costs and shipping delays we've had to consolidate some options, which has included not restocking our EA Decaf for the time being. We may get a second Decaf option again in the future which could be the EA or it may even be a world first Carbonic Maceration (CM) Processed Decaf.

We do still have our much loved SWP Decaf available. It's not currently on sale, but will likely on a future deal if you can hold out. Otherwise, it's always available at full-price if you can't wait :)

Order from them regularly. Personal preference but I much prefer them over Airjo and Inglewood etc. Very helpful with queries as well.

    • Wonderful to hear, thank you so much for your continued orders and terrific vote of confidence :)

Very happy to hear we're in your good books, we'll keep working hard to stay there!

  • delay ordered another kg for november :)

    • Fantastic, really appreciate you placing another order with us, thank you so much!

Very happy to know our unique delayed/scheduled dispatch system is a winner for you :)

  • +1

Enjoyed last time and reordering. Just some feedback, it would be good to confirm the selected (delayed) post date at the checkout just to confirm the date is correct / received before paying.

    • Terrific to hear, thank you so much for placing a repeat order with us, your continued orders really do mean so much!

Really appreciate the helpful feedback. We do have our system set up to show the date selected on the cart page (where you make the selection), confirmation page after payment is made and also on the order confirmation email. However, at present we do not have this information available on the payments page. I believe for security reasons the ability to edit the payments page is a bit more limited, but I can see how it'd be helpful and will see if we can make it happen without needing to rebuild the internet haha In the meantime, if you need the dispatch date altered after you've placed your order, simply send a reply message to your order confirmation email and we'll take care of the rest for you :)

  • What grind is best for cold brew?

    • Nice double check!

Filter grind with an accompanying order note in the "special instructions for seller" box on the cart page saying "cold brew," will be the winning ticket for you :)

      • Thanks! Will order now.

        • Terrific, much appreciated!!!

  • thanks OP. ordered 1.5 kg .

    • Terrific, thank you so much for your order, it's truly appreciated!

  • Ordered. Good company with great customer service

    • Wonderful, very happy we're in your good books, really appreciate your order and vote of confidence, thank you so much :)

  • Thanks @limeBlueCoffee - Can you please remind me what the espresso + milk recipe is for these wonderful beans?

    • Sure thing. "Wonderful beans," was a nice finish to the message, thanks heaps for the most welcomed compliment :)

      Black Espresso Guide 1 : 2 Ratio = 20 In : 40 Out : 27 Seconds
      Milk Based Guide 1 : 1 Ratio = 20 In : 20 Out : 18 Seconds

p.s. unless something changes, we always have the recipe guides on each bag

      • So 20g grounds in a double basket, for expected 20mL out?, And 18 seconds after the pre infusion?

        • You've got the 20 in 20 out spot on. The 20g dose is just an example the ratio of 1:1 is the key. Most double baskets suit 20g, but there are some which work better with 16 or 18 grams. If you let me know what machine you have hopefully I'll be able to confirm the idea dose specifically for you. With regards to the 18 second contact time I'd recommend this time frame including any pre-infusion.

Any more questions for double checks, feel free to reach out :)

          • @LimeBlueCoffee: Thanks. Running a Breville dual boiler and but I would assume I get a lot more than 20ml from a double shot currently (quite often split into smaller cups for 2 people). Balanced between getting appropriate approx 9 bar of pressure and enough grounds to ensure that after the shot the puck doesn't look too wet.

            • @kulprit: Appreciate the extra info, very helpful!

I can confirm 20g dose in the double basket is ideal for your machine. The 20ml output guide is extracted in roughly 18 seconds, its a double ristretto and is best suited to a single coffee in terms of flavour. If you're splitting the shot then I'd recommend the following as a single ristretto might not have enough volume to ideally cut through the milk:

              1 : 2 Ratio = 20 In : 40 Out : 27 Seconds includes any pre-infusion

Yes, the 9 bar pressure does somewhat help dial in and how the puck looks is also another guide, but I wouldn't recommend solely relying on those two factors. Your shot clock and a kitchen scale to weight the dose and output should be the tools you rely on to dial in a delicious espresso :)

              • @LimeBlueCoffee: Well that's awesome for the 20 in 40 out and 27 seconds. Thank you.

Pretty much exactly what I currently aim for.

Would love to try the 20 in 20 out and shorter time for the double ristretto, but would be hard to dial in back and forth every time I make a double shot coffee rather than spitting it.

                • @kulprit: Sounds perfect then!

Hold onto your seat because I've got some good news for you…the 1:1 and 1:2 ratio should have the same grind setting (of course there are exceptions based on equipment type, use and calibration), the only difference is 1:1 ristretto (means restricted) results in you stopping the shot a bit early and 1:2 espresso means to you let it run a bit longer. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy both without needing to change the grind setting between the two :)

                  • @LimeBlueCoffee: Awesome. So just using the initial part of the same shot for less output to change the flavour profile. Might try one later today (currently in a bag of your Brazil single origin)

                    • @kulprit: Spot on, sounds like a plan, happy Sunday experimenting :)

  • I'll echo what a lot of others have said, really good coffee and awesome service from Tom

    • WOW what a fantastic seconding, thank you so much for your glowing vote of confidence, it really does mean so much :) :) :)

  • Thanks! I liked Guatemala Ayarza SO (with milk) so am looking forward to trying this SO too. I'm currently trying Moments to Memory but have found it a bit light for my liking with milk.

    • Tried this last time, great beans. Better than Moments. This bean has stronger taste to me.

      • +1

Wonderful to hear you think this SO is "great," we do too (only a slightly biased comment)!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback, looks like you're a fan of coffees near the chocolate end of the flavour scale :)

    • +1

Terrific feedback and thank you so much for placing another fantastic order with us, it's truly appreciated!

Based on your enjoyment of the flavour and profile of our Guat SO, I'm surprised you're finding Moments to be a touch light. Might be as simple a fix as a tweak of your grind setting, feel free to shoot off an email to [email protected] when you get a sec to explore this further :)

      • I think it could be that I hurried into using very fresh Moments beans in an espresso machine without waiting long enough for degassing (ran out of beans). I'm remembering the Guat SO as brewed a few weeks after the roasting date. I still have more Moments beans to go to find out the sweet spot for degassing :)

        • Good to know :)

I get stuck into the good stuff the day after roasting, but that's because I enjoy tasting the change each day. I find the depth of flavour hits the sweet spot in the second week after roasting, this is especially true for espresso extraction. Glad you've still got some Moments left to experiment with.

  • +1

Is this a light/medium or dark roast?

    • Nice double check!

I'd classify this one as a medium roast :)

  • Awesome deal - just bought a Breville Dual Boiler so keen to try some fresh roasted beans - any tips anyone has on how to get a decent coffee brewed so I don't waste too many on trial and error!!

    • +2

That's part of the fun! Just start with the swing grinder on default (5) and make small adjustments. Make sure the amount of coffee is enough and you're packing it well.

Doesn't take too much to get 'good'.

    • Ive got the same machine. If the grind is right, the default 8 second pre-infuse then up to 8 bar should take care of you. If you have a scale I'd recommend starting with 17.5g in, and 36g out. The longer it takes to extract, the better the taste will be. Mine takes 21 sec to run the shot, but I feel thats running a bit fast and I've got some improvements to make. Also check out the Slayer Mod option for full control.

      • For some reason with the default pre-infuse, then the shot process it is only getting up to 3-4 bar, I'm guessing I am not having fine enough grinding or tamping hard enough maybe… because if I use the grey disk the pressure definitely can get to 11 on the machine. Have been using a scale to 18g (my scale isn't accurate enough for better than that). Had a quick look at slayer mod - sounds a bit well above my skill level for now!! Would just be happy with it working for a basic average coffee! Hopefully these beans help….!

        • I had EXACTLY the same issue with beans from Woolies! The shot would only get to 3-4 bar after pre-infusion, if I was lucky. I had a similar issue with Wolff espresso grind but it was getting to 6-7 bar. For me the issue was the beans being ground too coarse. I went to the Merlo roastery and got beans ground to their 4.0 spec and now I get 9 bar shots consistently (noticeably finer grind when compared to the other beans).

I'm using a botomless portafilter as opposed to the pressureised one that comes with it, so YMMV, but it sounds like the beans are too coarse at the moment.

The advice I got from the guru who sold my my machine was to put 20g in and try for 50g out, and tamp it as much as you can to try and reduce the flow rate. You should get a drinkable shot from that. Good luck!

(The slayer mod is definitely the advanced level barista move. I've looked into it multiple times but haven't done it yet. Maybe once I get a decent grinder to play with I'll have more motivation)

    • Congrats on your new setup!

Terrific to hear our deal's a winner for you, thank you so much for ordering some of our fresh coffee :)

Your best friend in fast tracking the trial and error will be a set of kitchen scales and the shot clock. Best advice I can give with a new set up is to start roughly in the middle of the grind settings if you've got a stepped grinder (did you get the Breville Smart grinder or a different one?), the burrs will almost be too sharp initially so after a bit of use you'll need to grind slightly finer (also as the coffee ages), just like a pair of new shoes they'll perform best once you've worn them in a bit. From the initial shot only adjust one notch at a time, unless it's way off the mark. Depending on the grinder you have it's likely better to adjust the settings while the burrs are moving and to purge roughly half a shot between each adjustment, otherwise your shot will be half of the old setting and half of the new one due to ground left in the chute.

You should roughly aim for the following extraction options:
      Black Espresso Guide 1 : 2 Ratio = 20 In : 40 Out : 27 Seconds includes any pre-infusion
      Milk Based Guide 1 : 1 Ratio = 20 In : 20 Out : 18 Seconds includes any pre-infusion

      • Thanks for the info, really appreciate it ! I have got the breville smart grinder. I have a double shot almond latte, but thought the ratio should be more like 1:2, eg 20g of coffee ground, ends up being 36-40g of espresso ? Seems like I’ve been doing it based on black espresso guide but drinking milk based ?
