Has Jetstar Changed Their Price Beat Requirements?

I was looking at flights from Singapore - Phuket and noticed Jetstar have a flight and so does Scoot. The Scoot flight was a bit cheaper so I went to price beat via Jetstar as they used to price beat any international flight within the same calendar day.

It seems now they have to be within an hour of each other within Asia, which is pretty poor in my opinion because that rules out almost all of their flights given how incredibly unlikely it would be for the flights to be within an hour of each other.

It seems like a false promise that would be very hard if not impossible to achieve

Singapore to Asia has always been one hour. The same calendar day rule only ever applied to international flights from Australia to Asia/Hawaii.

Given the poor state of service with Qantas and Jetstar at the moment, you’re probably better off flying Scoot.

    • Scoot is just as bad if not worse IMO. Jetstar has a huge bonus of having Qantas lounges for FF's, I love paying $100 for a crappy Jetstar flight and going to the Qantas First Class lounge prior.

      • It's a pity how Scoot has gone, I flew a few times in the first months of their starting and they were fantastic - tried a few years later and it was appalling.

Not sure how scoot is at the moment. But I doubt it could be worse than Jetstar. We just flew to Singapore 2 weeks ago and they've cancelled/delayed both of the segments. I guess we were the lucky ones that could fly back with -only- an 11 hour delay.

If you were connecting to Jetstar in Singapore from other destinations such as Phuket… it's not a bad place to get stuck, but it sure is expensive.

Going there JQ7, they've rebooked us with Qantas, which was quite lucky for us. On the way back JQ8, they've delayed from 9.25pm -> 8.30AM following day, costing us to pay an extra night of accom.

Not sure which city you're flying from Australia, but check the flight histories such as these:

        https://flightaware.com/live/flight/JST7

They seemed to be getting better, as in 1 out of 5 flights departed on time (say, < 2 hours delay), lol. But 2 weeks ago, pretty much ALL flights since early September were delayed > 5hrs OR cancelled altogether! That bad..

I'd avoid flying with them in the near future, especially if you could find cheaper flights with other airlines:

My last flight from SIN-PER on scoot was delayed 12 hours, every time they delayed they didn't announce it. Because of the layout of Changi, this left everyone waiting at a gate with no toilets or access to food and water. No announcement was made and every time someone asked what was happening they would say it was a small wait and we would be boarding. This meant you were essentially forced to stay at the gate without anything to do, eat, drink or place to go to the toilet without having to rego through security. Also, every time I have flown into Perth with Scoot there has been a ground delay at the gate of 45-60minutes because they don't have dedicated ground staff. (6+ times this year)

I have flown both airlines quite extensively this year and Jetstar is by far my preference.

Now obviously Jetstar Australia has been having issues but I would argue Scoot has as well but being a Singaporean airline you wouldn't hear about it as much. Jetstar, unfortunately, has issues with plane availability largely because of Qantas taking several a320's for Qantaslink and cancelling 787 orders. Any Jetstar flights with a B787 have an unfortunately high chance of cancellation or large delay because a couple are down for unplanned maintenance.

from what i've seen, the qantas lounges are pretty crap…

        • No fan of Qantas. But, it's First Class lounge in Melbourne was good.

        • The lounges in Singapore are very good and most of the international ones in general.

If you look at recent delays and on time flights on each website, Scoot doing way better than Qantas and Jetstar.

    • Jetstar Asia is a bit different (better) than Jetstar Australia.

  • It seems now they have to be within an hour of each other within Asia, which is pretty poor in my opinion

Stops people price matching a flight at the end of the day that no one wants (aka cheap) to a flight at the start of the day, that everyone wants (aka costly).

It seems like a false promise that would be very hard if not impossible to achieve

So book with Scoot who is cheaper and move on with your life.

    • I think you have missed the point..

      • What is your point then? The price match policy for asia hasn't changed as you have claimed…. So either pay jetstar prices or pay scoots. No real issue here.

        • I have had Jetstar price match Asia flights within the same day, your statement is incorrect.

          • @Nand0sx: and yet so many people in this thread agree that isn't the policy. Either way, thats the policy now. So pay jetstars cost or don't, its up to you.

  • No change.

  • Does Jetstar stlll price match domestic flights?

Jetstar would be my LAST choice, regardless of pricing etc

just fly scoot, Jetstar barely fly planes anymore

  • Air Asia any good?
I want to fly to BKK next month and don't trust Qantas/jet star. Thai Air is twice the cost of Air Asia

    • AirAsia is my preferred budget carrier, I rate them.
