They want to know if anyone has special upper-case detection glasses that can help them find stray capslocks to tidy up

  • I'm down to my last pair, some cheap plastic lensed glasses from Zenni. They are so old that the plastic lenses are kind of tarnished all around the edges, they look like a mess.

My focusing abilities have degraded as I got older, now I think the lenses in my eyes have lost all their flexibility. Now my eyes are "fixed focus", with a little astigmatism.

I have trifocals for all-day use, with photogray (they turn into sunnies when outside). I have tried varifocals, can't stand them. I have tried non-reflective coatings, and as far as I can tell, they do very little. I haven't had the non-reflective option for years.

I also have single-vision plain glasses at the "far" prescription of my trifocals, for playing tennis. I don't need photogray for these, as I play tennis at night.

Best decision I made was to pick titanium frames, with a flexible bridge - the bits between the lenses look like they're separate wires, bonded into sockets on the frame. I have dropped the glasses many times, never broken. The titanium frames have lasted about 20 years now, I've had the lenses replaced several times as my prescription changed, and I've had to replace the plastic tube bits that go over my ears a couple of times too. The only major sign of deterioration is that the clear lacquer has worn off the titanium in spots, it's not noticeable. Also, I did the hinge screws up quite tight, and never close the arms, so the hinges haven't worn out.

The previous frames I had, pitted where they touched my cheeks, from sweat corrosion. The titanium frames haven't had that problem, although I did have to change to nose pads that are entirely hard plastic without rubber (which I've also had to replace once in 20 years). Nose pads with a metal "stem" corrode away, due to sweat, and nose pads with rubber coating get gunk under the rubber.
