  • hmm not lowest ever but I can make use of it… anyone used these and have any thoughts?

They're rubbish. The reason they tell you not to carry it by the lid is because they're not air tight.

      • Oh shit really? Damn

      • Amazon reviews looks good though.

      • Some Amazon reviews mention that the lid is not set up correctly when it arrives. You need to flick something to make it alright. That might explain the claim that they are not airtight, but I don't have them myself so I can't verify.

From what I can tell (I was just researching these and other containers earlier today), the oxo pop seems to be the best series of airtight containers right now. There are very expensive though.

        • They are the best I could find but not 100% airtight.

@trixieb: I heard something about new and old stuff, the old ones work and the newer ones dont? Familiar trend though…

            • @ATangk: I've another 2 of the older style OXO containers bought from Myer many years ago. They are more airtight as they are clipped on the sides. However they didn't last long in spite of the high price and the clips broke with regular use.

I've two of this in a different shape. Using them to store biscuits and cashew nuts which have managed to keep fresh for a few days although the seal is not that air tight. Bought from Kitchen Warehouse a few years ago.

  • So, if these are not good…
What is a proper airtight container?
I don't mind to sacrifice the easy if use as I am looking for a long storage unfrequent use containers.

Idk but I use some sistema ultras. Generally that kind of style works as airtight.

I actually really like the kmart flip lock versions. Much cheaper with a similar design that are stackable. I switched out all my jars in the spice cupboard to the kmart ones after weighing up the cost of the oxo containers and its very aesthetically pleasing. When bought individually they often come with scratches so you have to search through what's available and find one in new condition or buy the set that comes packaged in a box.

    • I bought a full set of the OXO ones 2 years ago . I consider them airtight. But I rate the Kmart flip lock ones just as good. And great value

  • This seems very expensive for containers actually
Sistema ones cost a lot less

  • The OXO ones don't have any plastic smell, hence I prefer this brand. I've a few Sistema ones and old Tupperware that still smell plastic. I haven't tried KMart.

  • Can anybody recommend a good airtight canister for coffee beans that won't break the bank? This seems to not fit the bill!

Sistema ultra clear is 40% off at Woolworths today.
