Citizen Automatic NJ0171-81A & NJ0170-83Z $229 Each Delivered @ Starbuy

430

Looks like a nice watch for the price.

NJ0171-81A (white/navy)
NJ0170-83Z (yellow/black)

The movement is Citizen's 8210. 21,600 vph, 45 hours power reserve, no hacking (I know this is important for some). I don't see accuracy listed anywhere, I would expect the usual for this price range.

I've had the Yellow and Aqua models in my basket since Friday night. Can't quite bring myself to pull the trigger :-)

      Aqua:

      • Aqua is sold out, unfortunately.

        • Made my decision for me. LOL

        • damn, now I wish I'd bought it.. FOMO is real. I always want to buy things that are in high demand
There's a comment in this video saying they will release the same watch in eco drive (not sure if legit source)

        • anything that has a dial in a Turquoise("Tiffany Blue") colour will immediately sell out

        • back in stock for $379

      • yeah, had my eye on the tiff blue one as well. bummed i missed out but there's always next time

  • Man these watches are so nice. Lug to lug is about 49mm which is way to big for me.

      thats what she said

Please introduce me to the woman that thinks 49mm is too big, thanks

  • These are really good looking watches!

  • Learnt something new today, did not know about hacking is a thing in mechanical watches, never paid attention to or gave it a second thought whether the seconds hand stops or not.

At first I thought no hacking is a good thing, so you don't cause a pause when adjusting, such as for daylight saving (in NSW) yesterday.

But on second thought, the ability to stop the seconds hand is probably a good thing if you want to set the time more precisely. Then again, people don't buy mechanical watches for precision. :D

Even though I know my watch will be out by the end of the day, I'm a bit OCD when it comes to setting it so I do like hacking.

  • Good readability

Thanks, I already have 4 Seiko/Citizen watches from StarBuy, definitely don't need another one. Ordered it anyway.

    • That's the way.

  • Great buying for this quality watch IMHO.I just bought the one below but had to get it from Europe..

  • As a noob who likes a pretty watch but doesn't really care about brand name and prestige, is this a good company?

I like the dark blue eco drive and think it looks nice.

    • Citizen are a good mid-range watch brand. They own Miyota, a movement manufacturer. You'll find Miyota movements in a lot watches from smaller brands.

      • -1

How did you get citizen becoming a mid range watch?
Its still very much an entry level watch

        • +2

I guess it depends what POV you use. If you're looking at them from a watch collectors POV, yes, they are very much entry level. If you're looking at them from an average person's POV, there are many worse brands than Citizen.

          • @O15: From a mechanical perspective it should be compared to other mechanical watches. In this case it would be very very low.
From an eco drive perspective i would say they are one of the best, if not the best.
Miyota movements are not that accurate and really its a good starter mechanical watch. I still think they are great just would consider it an entry to mechanical watch world

Citizen is a long-established and respected Japanese/Swiss company.Buy with confidence.

  • Honestly a bit surprised people havent been modding these like the Seiko SKX. Good price as well

  • Clearly inspired by the Omega Seamaster Diver 300, but for a fraction of the price. Nothing wrong with that though. Omega is doing the same with the Moonswatch.

  • Watch experts, what happens if I buy an automatic watch and store it unopened, unused for 10-20 years? Will it still be as good as new?

    • Automatic watches are perfectly safe to store indefinitely as the winder 'charges' the spring, unlike a battery that can leak.

You can buy an automatic winder to keep time but that's overkill if you don't own a suite of automatic watches.

  • ordered one thanks for posting

  • Is the watch in below link worth it with $170 more than this?

From a glance, this is what I see as the functional differences:
NY0100-50M is titanium vs steel. It will probably be lighter but may be more prone to scratches.
NY0100-50M has day/date vs just date on the dial. The movement otherwise is very similar with the same accuracy rating (-20 to +40 seconds per day).
      NY0100-50M has 200m water resistance vs 100m.
NY0100-50M looks to have a better clasp.

Functionally, it is superior but the price is getting a bit high for that movement.
I won't say it's a bad buy but before you purchase it, I would recommend having a look at the Orient Kamasu.
It comes in several colours but here is a link to the blue one:
      www.amazon.com.au/Orient-RA-AA0002L19B-Mens-Watch/dp/B07JGNB…
It's a bit cheaper, has a sapphire crystal and a better rated accuracy at -15 to +25 seconds per day.

      • Wow! Thanks for the detailed response!
