Best ALDI Cheeses

I'm looking for your favourite ALDI cheeses.

I love the Goat's Cheese Barrel Spreadable. Used to love the Club Cheddar Pickled Onion but it may have been discontinued. The blue cheese is good too but I don't know which one it is specifically. The mini bocconcini are lovely and really soft to bite.

I see that the Emporium Selection Brie half wheel won an award - has anyone tried this? Is it as soft and creamy as Tasmanian Heritage or Castello?

      That's a very cheesy joke.
And it's not even a very Gouda one.
I'll Brie back later to see if you've got any better ones.

        I'll be edammed.

  • How's their camembert? Never tried it.

  • Their lebanese bread is soft.

  • The best hard cheese they've ever had had just ran out, hopefully they'll have it back next year. It's a Swiss cheese (no holes, though) called Grand Maurice.

I've had the half wheels of brie, it's quite good. The ash brie is slightly better.

Their Danish blue is fantastic if you want a mild-medium blue.

    Depends what you’re into.

The Smooth Blue (blue castello copy) is my absolute favourite.

The cheap small Camembert https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/fresh-produce/dairy-egg… I enjoy.

I Also likes the French l’ovale cheese but kinda over did it and got over it.

For everyday cheese, sandwich’s, toasties etc I just get their Tasty Light cheese block.

  • What are their English cheddars like? I got some of the Woolies' half price Thomas Dux 18 month aged cheddars a few weeks ago and they were great.

The Vintage Cheddar/Red Leicester are made by a company called Wyke Farms in Somerset.

A while ago a cheap supermarket called "Right Price" had them (under the "Wyke" name) sitting in the fridge for $250 per 250gm, and people weren't buying them, as they had white crunchy areas developing on the outside. I'd limit myself to 5 or ten at a time, then the Guardian went and printed an article on the " Ten best Cheddars in the UK" or similar, and Wyke made number eight after a few smaller artisan producers.

Some local people must have read it and realised the tangy casein crystals were a feature, not a bug, and I was lucky enough to grab some of the remaining blocks an hour later.

TL:DR - Fair enough I guess if you like cheddar. Leave it out of the fridge - it won't get a chance to go off…

$250 per 250gm? Crikey. For cheddar? I heard UK inflation was pretty bad, but $1 per gram or $1,000 per kilo. Man, that’s torturous. And that’s at a ‘cheap’ supermarket!! No wonder people weren’t buying it. What’s your job, bro? How’d you get all that coin?

I think the Club Cheddar Pickled Onion you mentioned is the same as the Mersey Valley brand available at most supermarkets. Woolies have the baby size ones available - 3 for $9.99 which gives you an opportunity to try one of the new ones. I had the "Summer Fruits" one and a "Trilogy - both very nice - there is also a Jalapeno one if that floats ya' boat'.
