The difference you should look for in mtb is coil or air fork suspension.
That's usually the difference in price points.
Although at this price, it's definitely goign to be a coil

Does anyone know if this brand/bike is known for good build quality and that if this ‘deal’ is a bargain or just an average deal?
If you want the major brands like Giant, Trek or Specialized etc you need to pay around $700-$800 for the same specs. This will do for your first bike and when you are ready to upgrade you can sell it for $250-$300 depending on the condition to fund your new bike. Alternatively you can look into used bike market and if you are lucky there are some good deals to be had for around $500 for 5-8 years old lightly used bikes with mid specs.
