Hi
Sorry wasn't sure where to post.
My wife wants to open a stall at a market as a hobby. Cash is fine but what options exist to pay contactless?
She has PayID but is there any simple tap and go payment options?
Thanks
How Can I Receive Contactless Payments Selling at a Market, PayID, NFC?

1.9% fee on that, vs 0% for PayID.
Pay id is sometimes not instant. Commbank for eg say’s have to wait 24 hours . Also someone can be dodgy and say they paid but u didn’t get it.
For a market stall, no one is going to piss around with PayID. And after getting a dozen transactions in an hour from random people they'll freeze the account for review.
Square is worth the 2% IMO, easy to flick a receipt over too.
Ain't nobody gonna use PayID for OP's wife's homemade handcrafted dreamcatcher chimes.
Can’t wait for iPhone payments
Officeworks sells a range of Credit card readers and terminals.
https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology…
There's also the PayPal QR code which does not require you to buy a payment terminal, but whoever is paying you will need to have Paypal app installed on their mobile. You obviously won't be able to accept plastic card payments this way.
Square is pretty good, ~2% transaction fees though.
There have been 3G and/or 4G EFTPOS terminals available for a number of years now. Search for them and see what are available near you or ring the financial institution you will be using to process the EFTPOS transactions and ask them.
It is expensive to accept credit card payments directly, that's more for shops not a single person trading once a week.
Not really. $50ish to buy the reader then 2% for square lands plenty of people that otherwise would not buy because they don't deal with cash. I've been at various market stands and the square usually gets considerably more in a day than cash.
I think quantumcat was talking about a proper EFTPOS terminal (as mentioned in the post they were replying to) rather than using Square.
@djkelly69: Ahh yes, I'll shut up now.
I use the Square reader for mobile payments. It's very easy and convenient.
Not sure if it's out of Beta or available to everyone but you can use your phone's NFC to receive payments via Square.
There is also Tyro, I couldn't easily find their fees though: https://www.tyro.com/products/eftpos/mobile-eftpos/
Agree with other commenters, no way would I stuff around with PayID or Paypal at a market, BUT I would buy more at markets if more vendors accepted card payments
We have a couple of square readers for our scout group. We use them when doing sausage sizzles mostly. They work pretty much flawlessly, as long as you have decent 4G where you're selling.
if your stall is high turnover you gotta use a machine. passing a mobile or email is too cumbersome. But if you missus is selling once every 15 mins i think she can get away during her selling chitchat to ask payid. But you may lose sales, i mean its weird isnt it?
No one mentioned the $299 Zeller from Officeworks, Cheaper than SQUARE and comes with a receipt printer. Also takes AMEX and EFTPOS (ATM Savings account keycards not on the Visa/MC system) 1.4% flat fee so add 1% to the sale as a CC fee. Don't forget to use the Ozbargain random referral code when signing up online at www.myzeller.com
Thanks will read everything thoroughly soon. The $60 square device seems to be ideal.
Square reader for now: https://squareup.com/au/en/hardware/reader
iPhone only in future: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2022/02/apple-unveils-contact…
