    $887 at Harvey Norman - http://www.harveynorman.com.au/canon-eos-600d-dslr-twin-lens…

But yeah still pretty good price.

And coincidentally I've been looking at cameras the last hour to buy one tomorrow. Does anyone know how the Canon 600D compares to the Nikon D5100?

  • Here is a quick comparison.

    http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-600d-vs-Nikon-D5100

Nikon 5100D has a better sensor, so it generally will produce better quality images /less noisy in high ISO setting/. For the same or little more money 5100D is the choice assuming it comes with twin lens kit.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/nikon-d5100-dslr-twin-lens-20…

    • I found the review in the following link, was very in-depth and had the Nikon and Canon more on a par, both with their advantages and disadvantages.
      http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_EOS_Rebel_T3i_600D_v…

    • The reality is that the lens is more important. Both D5100 and 600D are pretty good in terms of photos, with D5100 having better low light performance. However, in terms of videos, Canon 600D wins. It is difficult to get an unbias view when comparing Nikon to Canon. Generally, each camp has its strengths and weaknesses.

Canon 600D has in build auto focus motor, whereas Nikon 5100D doesn't (so it is best to get lens where the focus motor is on the lens itself for 5100D). That means the cheapest, but rather popular Nikon nifty 50mm prime is not suitable for 5100D.

Again, the most important bit is the lens. Unfortunately, Twin lens kit is generally not a good choice.

  • brought a 600D during the 20% off TGG card and very happy with it

    • What do you mean TGG card?
      What is it?

  • $888 aimed at the amature Asian photographer.

I think you must've got negged for misspelling either 'armature' or 'amateur'; coz my Chinese buddy LOL'd at the 888 reference!

He said that he's not wound with copper wire, but he's not a professional photographer either! :p

George's still the cheapest i've found at $879. Store is located CBD Sydney.
    http://www.georges.com.au/index.php/canon-eos-600d-digital-s…

If interstate I would prefer JBHiFi over those whinging crooks Harvey Norman.

At $888 still a bargain IMO.

    Good find Denzele

    • I'd prefer Harvey Norman simply because $1 cheaper and you can pay with Amex to get Qantas Frequent Flyer points :), JB do not accept Amex I am sure.

      • Incorrect, they do accept Amex but have a 1.9% surcharge.

And either way - the best way to get QFF points is to price match all of these at a DSE with a Woolworths card because:

        1 - DSE Don't have a surcharge for Amex
2 - Woolworths card gives you 1 point per $

With most Amexes giving 3 to 1 - an item for $1000 gives you 4000 points.

        • For plat edge 3x points it is: Participating retailers include the following merchants who have been classified as “major supermarkets”: Bi-Lo, Flemings, Safeway, Woolworths, Coles, IGA, Franklins, Fishers, Fresh Provisions, Food For Less, Supabarn, Macro Wholefoods.

Not sure DSE is included in Woolies?

  • I am very new to cameras, so I don't know if this is the same camera, but what about Kogan?

    $819

      Grey import. No canon warranty.

      • OK … good to know. Thanks!

        • Kogan gives 1 year warranty

    • I bought it from there, no problems with the product whatsoever.

  • Yeah good price. Interestingly enough I got mine last week for $879 - price matching George's price. However struggled to get anyone to pricematch. Tried about a dozen stores. The other issue I had was stock. That is the main reason I rushed to buy mine last week. Good price through.

  • Sweet deal, anyone know how much extended warranty at either shop would cost, and also if it would actually be needed…

  • does anyone recommend this or spend a bit more money on the canon 60d?
also is it better to buy the kit lens or just body and say a tamron lens?
i'm just so unsure. missed the cheap 550d from HN last time and am still searching!

    • Depends on what you want to use it for and your level. For me the 60d wasn't worth the extra money. Twin lens kit is great value at this price and will be good enough to get you stated. You can then work out what type of lenses you want and get those down the track.

  • Picked up a 600D from Ryda for $548.85 delivered with the following accessories:
    Canon Lens Work Book
    Opteka M100 67" HD Monopod
    Bower SLR Pro Back Pack

This was due to the following offer had run out —> http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/72330

Very impressed with Ryda as well, live in Melbourne, it was a next day delivery.

  • The reason for the price drop (I believe) is that there was a price drop in RRP (and therefore cost) of most DSLR's in the last week.

  • whoops

  • I have a range of nikon and canon gear, I love my 5100 the best because I get the best photos from it, it was cheap enough to rough it to get that bit extra shot and although I have primes I love the 18-55VR lens! You can do amazing things with the canon too so try setting one up and then doing the same on a Nikon. I find I can set my Nikon faster than my canon and the sensor has more a fugi film look, unlike the kodac quality of the canon.

Any of these cameras take great pics, but my 5100 was cheaper than the 7000

  • 650D came out last week, 550D will be phasing out. Hence, should see some price adjustments for both 550D and 600D

    • Not much of a difference,But i would rather spend that extra $68 and support the local businesses then going Online. I helped get my friend her DSLR from the guys @Harvey Norman, and they were very helpful ended up being assisted with 3 people as the shop was about to close was such a great experience. As everyone had a craze for Photography.
