Looking for Best Way to Spend a Monthly Phone Budget of $150

Hey folks, looking for a recommendation for a phone as the company is willing to expense up to $150 per month for a phone bill. Any suggestions?
I know it's generally cheaper to buy them outright, but given that it has to be expensed each month I'm looking for something that'll give me a monthly bill of about $150.

Had a look at the samsung galaxy s22 ultra but it seems like 12 month plan with telstra is $180, is there anyway to get that down? I don't even really need a mobile plan(have a pre-paid from previous deals posted here), but all 12 month phone plans seem to tack on a super expensive sim plan.

Otherwise the S22 on the basic plan comes to around $149 which is great.

  • If you don’t need it, can you negotiate more pay instead?

    • Good thought, but don't think there's much room for negotiation unfortunately as these are fairly standard policies

$360 (12 months at $30 out of pocket) for a S22 Ultra seems like a deal to me.
You'd easily make a profit at the end of the year offloading the handset.

    • Yeah definitely, might just go with it if there aren't any ways to get around the plan attached

Telstra Upfront Mobile Plan Essential 180GB / month $68
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max 512GB (over 36 months) $67.19
    Upgrade & Protect $15

    $150.19 / month

    • Would prefer 12 months but will keep this in mind if I go for 36

      • The 'Upgrade & Protect' option will let you upgrade to the latest version of the phone in a years time…

        • Until you accidentally drop it and shatter the screen :(

Have not looked at a high-end phone from T for donkey's years. Gee, they know how to charge…
Does the bill have to be from a telco? Might be worth popping into a JB and asking what they can do for $150pm.
Or, to wait a little while. One thing I noticed is that T has a 7-day price guarantee, so when/if the Ultra gets a discount elsewhere, see if they will come to the party

If someone else is paying, who cares?

          And it’s election season too..

  • Look out for a JB Giftcard for signing up to a postpaid plan deal? That should cover the extra $360.

    Phone over 24 months.

    S22U 512gb is $77
    Iphone 14 Pro Max 128gb is $79
    Iphone 14 Plus 256gb is $73

Then add the 180gb $68 plan.

Are you 100% sure they cover the phone repayment too. A lot of companies only cover the usage part of the bill. Not the device part.

      Agreed…
You better check with HR on their definition of mobile phone reimbursement.

Most are unchanged since Telstra 2011 days where the cheapest "business" mobile plan was $100/month.

My workplace has $150 limit as well but only for usage and needs to be under the one invoice a month.

Telstra will issue two bills if you have handset repayment with their latest system, one bill for the plan another for the repayment.

Voda and Optus can still do single invoice but it will itemise the plan and phone repayment in the invoice.

    • Yeah good call, you might be right too

  • my work gives me a $100 monthly phone allowance, I don't have to prove how I spend it, its just paid to me in my fortnightly pay
