    First put the $ sign.

for $86 I think is not a bargain, remember I bought a ceramic knife from ALDI for like $15.

    • these arnt made in china knives. they are proper japanese ceramic knives. ill be posting the amazon price.

Kyocera ceramic knives are the best in the world. You're basically saying a Toyota is cheaper than a Ferrari therefore a discount on a Ferrari is not a bargain…

Buying expensive ceramic knives which can shatter with a small drop or impact means investing in a non-durable item.

      • +9

i wouldn't trust anyone with a metal knife who drops them on a regular basis to begin with.

      • I've dropped mine a few times, its still going strong. any knife gets damaged when you drop it.

  • Pardon my ignorance, but how to you sharpen a ceramic knife?

I use Global knives, and I sharpen that on a stone. Can you sharpen a ceramic knife in the same way?

    • +2

Kyocera sells sharpeners for their ceramic knives.
for serious sharpening, you can send them to QLD and they will put a new blade on your old knife for $15.
in case anyone wants it for future reference:

      • Thanks for the info

  • Is the 'ILOVECATCH' iOS code still working?

    • Nope, nor the SCOOPONSPECIAL either.

i thought Kyocera made mobile phones, printers and other electronics - didn't know they made knives too :S

    • They should throw in a free set with purchase of their electronic products lol

    • +5

      Kyocera stands for Kyoto Ceramic
mobile phones, printers and other electronics is not their main business.

  • How are these compared to Global knives?

    • +1

I own a few Global/other brand metal knives and a kyocera ceramic knife. Personally, I prefer the metal knives as they feel better holding it(heavier) and is easy to sharpen so my kyocera normally just sits and collects dust so I would recommend sticking with Global knives instead.

      • thanks!

    • ceramics is ideal for cutting fruits for salads.

another advantage is to use it to thinly slice fish. that's what i use them for.

  • Can't remember if they were "Kyocera" but my sister bought a set of ceramic knives from COTD last time and they are srsly all chipped up now. I look at them and laugh at the "never needs sharpening" tagline.

    • +1

if it's chipped… probably you are using the knife wrong.

knives (be it ceramic or metal) shouldn't chip nor have a bent edge, unless you use it to chop a piece of meat with bones (should be using a butcher's knife/chopper) or trying to slice frozen meat (should be using a saw, or learn how to defrost them.).

      just saying.

    • Ceramic knives can't be treated in the same way as metal knives. You can't chop, hack, or exert any twisting force on them. As said above they are best for slicing. But there are many so so ceramic knives on the market and you get what you pay for.

  • Used Kyocera ceramic peeler for several years. Nothing to complain, through away all other metal one.

  • Pity about the color. Easily the best ceramics out there.

    • I prefer the stand-out colour - it means the Mrs doesn't mistake them for standard cheapies!

  • Deal marked as EXPIRED, but I just bought today?

  • sounds like an interesting knife, "good for cutting fruit" …

i've already got my hand forged, VG-10 jap-steel, santoku … accidentally used it to cut through snapper bones … that took a while to get the blade back :\
