I've been thinking of getting this for when I travel. this is cheapest in 2022 …. not sure if it'll go to 2021 prices again.

    • +4

I got mine for ~$100 and I love it. Have been on multiple trips now with it and the convenience can’t be matched. Happy to answer any questions :)

  • I don't know if it's worth $150. I'm going overseas in a week and still on the edge of getting this

Definitely worth it if you have both iphone and apple watch. It is compact (but heavy), and you need a high Watt charger. Otherwise it won't charge your apple watch. I have two of these already from apple sale ($35 coupon during Nov-2021), and I purchase another two for my kids today.

      • thank you. How is the charging speed? Is it considerably slower than original lighting and apple watch charger?

        • +1

Very slow, I use it for bed side charging (The magsafe makes it easy to place the iphone as it snaps to the charge center automatically, if you have iphone 12 or higher). If I really need it to fast charge. I normally disconnect the lightning cable to the magsafe duo and directly plug into the iphone.

Charging on Qi chargers is completely reliant on the input power.

Put it in a normal USB and you'll be 8 hours.

Plug it into a special brick with 27W output it'll be lightning fast

Personally, I’d put the money towards a good AC adapter, maybe a gaan one, with multiple USB ports able to deliver fast charging across multiple ports and then use a lightening/MagSafe cable and the Watch cable. Likely get faster charging for your devices and many of the adapters can charge a laptop or additional devices too (as they may have 4+ ports) so it’ll be more versatile. From a travel and cost perspective you still need to buy and carry an AC adapter too if you buy this so there’s extra cost and bulk too.

      • do you have any recommendation on charger?

        • I don’t sorry. I use an older Tronsmart adapter that travels well, but there’s newer and better stuff out there now especially if you’d like something that can also charge a laptop. My model predates USB-C for example.

159 for a wireless charger, must be the bitten apple

There are far more expensive ones for android if that helps you. Does that mean android bit more apples according to you?

  • Is there huge difference between this and these copycats on Amazon?
    Ask for a friend…

    • +1

Idk. Let me know the difference when you find out.

    • Ask your friend to buy one and let us know.

    • This may be the answer your friend is asking for…

This is terrifyingly expensive It makes me sad (I know it's apple that's the way, etc etc).

Just in case you don't know, "MagSafe" isnt a proprietary apple technology and every competitor is legitimate. It is simply a magnetic ring on top of a qi charger.

There are many name brand magsafe alternatives on the market for ~$40

I recently got the Cygnet one on the $20 target sale and it works perfectly.

iPhones are limited to 7.5w charging over Qi though versus 15w for MagSafe certified chargers. It’s likely an artificial restriction on Apples part as MagSafe is built on Qi, but it’s still a distinction that buyers should be aware of. The 15w speed gets close to the iPhones max of 20w over cable and makes it a viable replacement, where Qi at 7.5w may not be enough to quickly charge in a pinch.

If you only charge over night though then it matters less.

        • It's only 14W max according to the webpage. That's only if you use a 27W or more charger.

@Charity: It’s 15w over the 20w adapter to most iPhones supporting MagSafe, minis excluded which get 12w

            Identifying 15w speed - https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT211829

Adapter specs identifying the 20w adapter is a [email protected] power profile, which is one of the profiles the previous article notes maximises MagSafe output to 15w - https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/iphone/iph8c1e31583/io…

From memory the 18w adapter the 20w one replaced when MagSafe was introduced couldn’t get the full speeds due to the supported power profiles, which was 9v@2A or 5v@3A for the adapter but given how the profiles work I think that model would fall back to the 12w output (5v charging profile) when used with MagSafe, or something like that.

          • @Charity: See you’re referring to this dual dock which indeed shows 14w. The specs I mentioned are for the standalone MagSafe adapter which is what I was thinking of earlier, however I wasn’t clear on that.

Weirdest looking Apple branded thing I’ve ever seen.

  • The website looks dodgy. Are they trustworthy

    • They are a legit Computer Retail Company. But the real deal is to price beat at Officeworks.
