    Boom boom 💥

    • " I want you in my room "

  • -7

Word of warning. The main magic button only lasts a couple of months and then gets jammed. Then it starts going into stuck loop and you can't play/pause on the boom anymore.

    • +5

On all of them or your particular one?

      • I've had 3 (1 that I bought, 2 that LG sent me cause of warranty), every single one has failed.

        • +10

Better check your speaker. These arent made by LG

        • +4

But plenty of feedback says still ok after 3~4 years so are you sure it's not user error? Maybe you are pushing the button too hard. I know some of these waterproof speakers have those rubber "non buttons" which you have to press and hold down. It feels like you have to push hard to trigger it but you don't have to press too hard I realised.

    • +9

Just to weigh in on the opposite side, had my Boom 3 for ~4 years and still going as strong as the day I got it. Not used in particularly dusty environments but is frequently soaked by water

      • +2

Ditto, have 2 of them, one is 3 years old the other almost 2. No issues.

      • +4

I support this. I have 2 megabooms for 3+ years, still going strong. They have been in some weird environments full of dust and sand, to even in the water. No issues whatsoever

      • +1

I don't know how long I've had mine, but it's literally sat on my shelf for years. I turned it on (with more than a year since last charge) and it had 80% charge.

My Bose Revolve however wouldn't maintain a charge for more than a month it seemed. I ended up selling the Bose and keeping the UEBoom because I like the sound, its power and the charge duration/standby is fantastic!

      • I've had my Boom for 3 years and use it daily for work. Never had an issue.

      • Same, paid about this amount for the OG Boom around 4 years ago, still works even though I've been taking it into the sauna multiple times a week! Sound quality has deteriorated a bit but this is a bluetooth speaker to be used outdoors, high fidelity audio isn't what this does. Tempted to buy this one in case the sound quality is better but I don't really need it.

    • Mine is going strong too and it’s 3 years old.

    • Never had or seen this issue

    • +3

Why the downvotes?? He was just letting others know of his issues with the speaker. Might not happen to everyone but defo happened to him.

      • Maybe that was the intention but that's not what was communicated.

        • +1

Yeah thought so. I mean it was more of a PSA rather than a bashing review. I guess QC is always an issue with product like this.

  • +1

Now THIS is a bargain fuiyohhh

    • You're going to be still mimicking Uncle Roger's shtick a decade from now I bet, despite it being old and only passingly funny to begin with. You're like the tradies across the back fence still doing Borat impersonations in 2022 when the movie came out in 2006 and the character even older than that, as if it's contemporary humour. Very Nice!!!

  • +17

note that this is Micro USB

    • +5

      Im out. Boom.

  • +10

    Micro USB…come on UE…

    • So 2015

      • +1

This came out in 2018 around same time phone companies started using usb c. They're so popular that the company is still selling same stuff and hasn't released any new products. I wouldn't be mad if they changed the port to tyoe c and called it boom 4. It's that good honestly

        • +1

what is the benefit of usb-c over micro usb? (besides getting with the times…)

          • +6

@papaya: in the context of this device, usb c is far more reliable as it has a more robust connector type compared to micro usb. Micro usb has a terrible reputation for breaking, bending and simply not working after minimal wear and tear.

            • +2

              @Currynuts: Oh fair enough, thanks!

              • @papaya: It's way overblown though. Micro USB has its issues but unless you're rough with the connector or it's badly placed and someone steps on it by accident there aren't really that many issues. The cables do wear out faster than USB-C, but it's not a reason not to buy this speaker unless you literally have no other devices that still use Micro USB - it even comes with a (decidedly poor quality) Micro USB cable so that's not an excuse either.

          • @papaya: Also Micro USB is a pain for peeps with bad peepers…checking which way you are plugging it in can be a pain and eventually leads to damage. I would buy this as my old boom is still going strong many years later but gonna wait till they upgrade that usb. Not many devices use micro usb anymore and for good reasons.

          • @papaya: Charging speed is the big one for me

    • I skipped any micro USB speaker and bought the BlueAnt X3. USB C, Aussie company, good sound.

  • What's the diff between this and the 'mega' version?

    • +9

Bigger sound, bigger bass, bigger battery and bigger buttons. Hope this helps

      • +20

        Big thanks

  • I would never spend my money on that. JBL charge 5 is far superior.

    • +3

Does your statement come from personal experience or are you simply marketing the brand you own? It's not that clear cut according to Rtings

      • I watched the following video before I buy mine. You can see the huge difference between both.
        https://youtu.be/Rxvn5Fxm-Lw

        • +7

Watching a video usually wouldn't be enough to say it's "far superior", but having owned the Boom 3, Flip 4, Charge 4 and Charge 5, I can agree, the JBL has more more clarity than the Boom 3.

The Boom 3 will fill a room better due to the 360 degree sound. The Charge 5 will have much better clarity, although since it's a front facing speaker it won't be as good as a standalone speaker as the Boom 3.

      • megaboom 3 much better and more portable.

      • I've got this UE Boom and a Charge 3, and the Charge 3 sounds significantly better. Would hope 2 more generations hasn't gone backwards.

    • I had a Charge before I got the Megaboom I have now (previous gen)… the Charge had a nasty crackle coming over the bluetooth, the Boom did not. Sold me.

  • +3

Successfully price matched in store at OW, they were very surprised in the price difference having to verify with a few staff lol.

    • Did OW add EB delivery with pricematch?

      • Not for me

      • No

    • I got it for $92.4 from OW after price match.

  • Was about to get this but it's micro USB. Anyone recommend a similar priced speaker with USB C?

    • +1

I've had my Sony speaker for 2 years, still awesome! USB C and great sound

  • Got one. Thanks OP. Was looking to buy one, but waiting foe better discount. Now it is big discount.

  • +1

    Megaboom 3 or this

    • megaboom FTW

      • Ftw?

        • +1

For the win. As in, its good.

  • +2

    Anker. Mic drop.

    • Anker?

      • +1

I think they are referring to this deal which was $80 for the Anker Soundcore Motion+.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/702806
Although I have heard conflicting things about the speaker some say it sounds better than JBL and some say it sounds terrible. Also apparently it does not get loud compared to other Bluetooth speakers of similar size, no matter what the specs say.

While I don't really like the Ultimate Ears Boom speakers you cannot deny they are very popular as you can probably see from the positive votes. When someone searches "Bluetooth speaker" usually this is what comes into their head and what pops up on the first google search result. The Boom speakers have a reputation for 360 sound so an equal listening experience for everyone and also being good quality which means durable and good long term battery life. Probably ticks most boxes for bluetooth speaker users.

  • +1

    pitty no megaboom on ebay

    • +1

Yeah I was about to buy one to replace an old Wonderboom 1

The Wonderboom 2 is only $67.46 ($64 with free delivery on eBay plus), which is very tempting too…0

  • That's a good price - I had to pay a lot more when I had to buy as a gift…

  • Hope Amazon will match the price.

  • Can anyone say how this compares to a Wonderboom?

  • I have a UE boom 1 which I got ~7years ago and I leave it in the shower, use it almost everyday and it still works perfectly fine. These things are literally built to last.

  • Years ago I got an old Sony bluetooth speaker like this, but older model for about $30.

It was great for the price, but alas one of my kids finally launched it onto the ground one too many times and it's dead. Given said kids are feral and will likely destroy the next one in time as well, does anyone have a tip for a cheaper $30-40 bluetooth speaker that's decent?

Have been eyeing off these Ultimate Ears and JBL ones but at $100, would rather live by the ozbargain code and save a few bucks if I can :)

  • Merged from Ultimate Ears Boom 3 Portable Bluetooth Speaker Ultraviolet $97.46 + Delivery @ EB Games
    Go to Deal

Learned the hard way from the last post that price beat isn't a deal so il post the EBgames deal and here and you can price match from there to get an even better discount.

" Went to Officeworks to price beat the https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/loot/262100-ultimate-ears… which is still available online + delivery but Officeworks Greenacre NSW didn't have the colour in stock but agreed to price match on any other colour via the sale price, didn't even add the delivery price and it came down to $92.59.

They also price matched the female behind me who was also doing the same thing on any other color."

    • Read the 'check for duplicate' area when posting a deal

      • +3

I did it was marked as out of stock as it only mentioned night colour, that's why the moderator merged them both and opened/updated this deal for the ultraviolet colour.

Next time I know now that I can just report the available colour in the original thread being available and type the extra price beat I got into the comment as it's not a deal that can have a deal posted about.

All a learning experience and thank those who pointed it out to me.

    • +1

Meeeeee! So Officeworks Greenacre only has 'Night' and 'Lagoon' (Blue) left in stock. I grabbed the last 'Seashell Peach' (lilac) one

      • +1

haha, nice seeing fellow ozbargainers out on the field XD was hoping id catch you back again on here :D thnx for update.

P.S. was in a hurry had snuck out of work to get it luckily only 1 minute away.

        • +1

😁 so good! i was thinking to myself that you probably came to price match too, or there is no way anyone would go to officeworks just for speakers at full price. We lucked out with the colour choice IMO. I wasn't too keen on the Ultraviolet Purple and Black didn't excite me either hahaha

          • +1

@chibichip: haha yeah when I saw you I had my suspicion and was going to point out the deal to you if you didn't know but in actuality, you jumped straight into asking me XD

I wasn't keen either but wasn't going to pass out on the deal, luckily the guy was like " we don't have the colour would you be keen on any other" and I was like " I just want the price match as long as you don't mind the colour then I'm good" manager was beside him and approved it on any colour so lucked out and got the Night colour I wanted.

Didn't see you so was going to go tell ya after I finished but luckily you came to check out first.
But yeah I love Officeworks for their price-beat and easy warranty replacement or refund so it was good to get it from there. They also didn't add the shipping cost as they normally do for online avilibilty only which was an extra bargain.

            • +1

@HunterxHunter9000: Love it 😂 When you started walking towards the speakers section, I was like "no way… could it be?!" in disbelief that I'd actually meet a non-friend OzBargainer in the wild.

I saw you still at the checkout and thought something was wrong with the Price Beat but then i snooped and saw that they'd given you the black one 😁

OW is the best, i could spend forever just looking at the stationery.. but good to know about the warranty replacement :D

              • @chibichip: haha yep same though, good thing we decided to visit same time, I lucked out sneaking out of work at lunchtime when I went, I actually went back just now to get one for my brother they wouldn't do it again unfortunately for any colour at first until another guy wanted one as well when he saw me and a bit of back and forth and we got them to give us any colour again. I got the red and the guy got the blue and black so I don't think they have any now.

However, they did say on ultraviolet since it says they have stock but they cant find it they can price match and do a click and collect for next few days.

                • +1

@HunterxHunter9000: What! I would've nabbed the red :C … but my dude only showed me the 3 colours (black, lilac and blue) BOO!

How'd you guys manage to convince them to do any colour again? I guess the expiry of the deal depends when the Ultraviolet one runs out on the EB site. They'll be fine in a few days lol

                  • @chibichip: Yep, the ultraviolet one is the one that's stuffing them up cuz they have it online in stock but they cant find it in store so until either they remove stock or be games sold out it well be an issue for them.

  • +1

My store added 5.95 delivery unfortunately due to no local EB had it in stock..

    • damn thats a shame, i just went back to buy another and another guy saw me and also bought 2 and they didn't add any shipping, they even price matched on the receipt I bought from. maybe if u want pm me or anyone to give them the receipt to try with.

  • Saying out of stock for the Violet one too when trying to pay for it just now. Noooo :(

    • On EB Games? I'm still seeing the Add to Cart button here..

  • +1

I also got OW to price match and did not add delivery, very happy at that price.

  • PS: For anyone with eBay Plus, the Boom 3 Ultraviolet has free delivery from their eBay Store

    • Not showing on the website when i looked today.

  • I ordered the boom 3 from eBay and it arrived just now - However the item has the seal of packing broken!
Marked the item not as described, and it says full refund. However, I used my monthly voucher as well as another voucher. (effectively, I will loose out on the $5 monthly eBay Plus voucher). I want a replacement, not a refund (it was advertised as brand new item, which it obviously is not).
I have initiated a return process and also reached out to the vendor. Buyer beware!

    • Has anyone else experienced this? I'd like to buy one, but only if it's not tampered with.

    • My Boom 3 Night, ordered directly from EB, also came with seal broken. Everything inside seemed intact though and working fine.

      • I think that it is unacceptable to sell potentially returned items as brand new, as they should qualify as refurbished, not new.

    • I just got one from eBay. The package was damaged but the seals were intact.

  • Great little (well not so little) speaker.

  • Went to JBHIFI to ask them to price max EB Games (which is literally opposite their store). They said they wouldn’t price match because EB is out of stock. I went across to EB & bought it because they had one just shipped in…

    • wow, lucky. I rang OW, they said they would price beat, got there, turns out they didn't actually have stock in the black at all…now it is OS at EB as well (online)…and no stock in EB Penrith. Only went to OW as I had a $100 gift card…should have just bought through EB and paid postage

  • I bought ultraviolet one through eb website. Hours later, still no confirmation email. I was going to do a screenshot of the purchase page with order number, but unfortunately hubby got there before me and got out of that page. Anyone else had issues with this? Credit card definitely debited.
