Water Damaged - Ceiling and Walls

Hi all!

Looking for some other thoughts on what people have experienced/seen with water-damaged bits of the house! Long storyshort there was a burst pipe in one of the corners of the roof.

  1. Ceiling: A small crack has formed in the ceiling which water dripped through

  1. Couple of walls of our bedroom had also been soaked, we peeled off the paint and got the emergency water dryer guys to come in for a fews days. The walls are now completely dry but not as smooth as they were with all the paint off. The guys did a bit of patchwork but not great

What have people seen to repair these?

"Well you see the thing is, I thought I'd save a few bucks by not getting insurance".

Oh I’ve actually had water damage before. Hmmm let me remember, what did I do?

      Ahh yes. That was it.

They removed the damaged part of the ceiling, patched the hole and then repainted the entire ceiling twice.

      • Insurance must not cover slow leaks…

          But…

…whoever is being paid to come and fix it should be doing it properly.

Ideally like for like, including painting, but OP may have only asked for the patching.

        • Op says they had a "burst pipe". That's not a slow leak.

          • @brendanm: tried this, doesn't work.

they will have a builder and plumber come in to do a inspection and report

          • @brendanm: Burst pipe since Feb.

  • What have people seen to repair these?

A plastering / ceiling repairman? Go google it.

    Bunnings?

  • Going from OP's previous posts, they have recently bought a house and are renovating it … so he may not have any insurance!

Billshowto is a YouTuber who shows you how to fix things. I had a few holes I needed to patch and his channel helped me do it myself. Now it doesn't even look like I stuck my finger through the wet plaster on the ceiling.

    Maybe check him out.

  • What pipe burst in the roof do you have a storage water heater in the roof? The walls look like fibrous plaster? Its the wall lining with the horsehair in it.
