Apple AirPods 2nd Gen available at Costco for $359.99. Max 5 per customer.

Potential price beat at Officeworks will bring it down to $342 which a good deal for a newly launched Apple product and early adopters. Someone on whirlpool got OW to price match.

  • is it possible to do a click and collect when order from costco?

    • No,because they only allow delivery.

  • +34

Not as good as recent Amazon $319.00…

      • +8

No they did have the Gen 2s on sale at launch.

      • Lol

      • +1

False. I just got mine and pretty sure it’s 2nd Gen. only got charged $319

      • +2

        nope its gen 2

    • +27

It's the ozb rule, if you know it was cheaper, harder to buy at higher price.

      • +1

no one is buying that Alienware 38 incher then, unless there's another price error

        • +1

Most people are sensible about real discount instead of price error.

          • +1

@edfoo: got my Gen 2 Via Amazon at $319 yesterday chief.

            • @Rizzler: Yes I know of that deal and many people have ordered them. Not my choice though.

  • +3

Unlikely to get Office Works to price match Costco due to the membership.

    • Try at JB via chat.

      • they couldn't do it :(

        • -1

JB can offer $385 and with the 10% off gift card lately, end up paying 346.5, not a good deal.

    • +10

I am former Officeworks employee and I believe the head office price matching team changed their interpretation of what commercial pricing/membership means and they no longer exclude price matching Costco and Amazon prime so can be price match now not sure on whether you need Costco membership or not to price match. Other membership pricing matching may be possible but generally have to be generally available to the public and not exclusive ie business specific membership pricing or education pricing.

Note this change was communicated badly by Officeworks when I was working there, through releasing internally a PDF guidelines on common tips on price matching so most managers and employees might not be aware that there was in fact policy change to now price beat Costco and Amazon prime deals if customers want to price match these deals.

      Edited to clarified first paragraph

      • +4

Can confirm, did get Costco price matched at OW. ($23 more than the Amazon deal, but whatever I guess)

        • -1

can you post a receipt or tell us which OW store? I tried 2 stores, both refused due to the "membership" thing.

          • -5

@ctan7: Hey mate sorry way too much personal info especially with recent Optus leak. But I have seen other people post I believe. Or you can tell them other stores have done it.

Have been able to price match?

            • +5

@Larsson: Any chance you can tell me your first car model or mothers maiden name? Just need it for the price beat. Thanks

              • @Sestrooper: Also need the first street you lived in, and your first pets name pls. :)

        • And you get to use your Flybuys see good deal

  • -4

I can buy a phone at this price.

    • +2

      Username checks out

    • +3

But then you wouldn't have money for ANC TWS earbuds

  • +3

I’m at OW Carnegie and staff said a lot of people came and ask for pm haha

    • +2

      did they honour PM?

      • +7

Yes. Too many people ask for PM they just skip checking my Costco membership.

  • Looking for sale on AirPod 3. Maybe on Black Friday?

  • +1

tried to price match JB, no deal :(

How about this? Says 2nd gen, better chance to price match at ow?

    • +3

the model number of second gen is MQD83ZA/A

      • Yea but you might be lucky if the sales person only sees the second generation and will price match for you?

    • +2

Yeah tried, pretty sure they are being dodgy because the part number AirPods Pro 1st gen (but with wireless charging) which I think was the second iteration.

      Same with dick smith here:

      https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/apple-airpods-pro-noise-…

      • Were you successful with the price match?

        • +2

No they look at the part number (sku) to price match.

I was however successful price matching Costco at office works.

        • +1

It's worth a shot. I got them to price match for me this morning. $302.90 and I'll claim TRS at the end of next month!

          • @sharpme: I might try later. They didn’t check the product code or anything?

            • @t0087669: Nope. I did break the cardinal sin of calling ahead first to approve and got the same person when I went into the shop.

              • @sharpme: Oh? How does it work? Just call the officeworks you gonna go and say you want price match. Do you have to provide the website link?

                • +1

@t0087669: Yep. Just called and asked that I wanted to price beat Dick Smith and the guy said that normally they don't do that because of grey imports but in this particular case the site didn't mention that so it was good to go. I honestly didn't realise it was a completely different model until reading this thread. I'd expect OW to catch onto this pretty quick (if they haven't already) so good luck!

  • +13

Picked these up from JB yesterday.

Really phenomenal improvement over first gen. I have XM4’s, N400’s and MTW3’s… but APP2’s are the superior all-round product now.

    • +3

My Amazon pre order delivered today and in about 10 minutes I definitely agree - much bigger upgrade over Gen 1 than I expected in sound quality and noise canceling

      • +4

For sure. Transparency is also a huge step up. It used to be best-in-class. Now it’s pretty much indistinguishable from having nothing in your ears.

        • +4

Agreed - however with transparency I can hear better. I'm hoping that's not a sign of hearing loss 🤣

          Incredible product.

          • @seajay: Same - I assume Transparency Mode is what the sensation of hearing aids is like!

    • +1

I'm waiting for RTINGS to get their hands on a pair first as the Bose QC Earbuds are the ones to beat.

    • +1

      Yep mine are great.

Seems the soon to be released Bose QC11 earbuds have slightly better sound, but not enough to beat the overall benefit of APP2 for iPhone users.

    • Are they any good for phone calls?

      • Yes. Not identical to phone to head, but clear and good volume with no background noise at all even with vehicular traffic on a busy street from my experience

    • +1

Exactly. I have a musical epiphany. They sound so much better and the noise cancellation is as good as it comes. Incredible technology.

  • +2

Just ordered at OW at Pitt Street Sydney. Price beat, no problems. $341.99.

    • Hello, Did you do it in store or over the phone?

      • +1

I’m just worried if I go to the store I will have to fight with the sales person to get it haha

      • Went in store.

    • Thank you! I went in store at Pitt St and was able to get it priced beat today.

I called the Glebe store beforehand though and they refused on the phone.

  • I want to watch movies with my 4K Apple TV late at night in my apartment without disturbing neighbours. Will I be able to lie down on the couch comfortably for a two hour movie with these shoved in my ear holes?

    • +4

yeah it will even fit snug shoved up ur (profanity)

      • Ha, thanks. I’ll consider all the options.

      • +2

That rear surround really adds a new dimension to movies 😏

    • +2

Spacial audio and Dolby Atmos content on your Apple TV with the Airpod Pros will feel like you're in the first row of the cinema

      • i always wanted to look up when i watch movies.

    • +2

They slowly slide out from my ears but I use AirPods Max for that and can confirm it’s amazing experience.

Just bought for 399 at JB cause of my gift cards

    • +14

Thanks for letting us know 👍

      • -2

        You’re welcome. Did this help?

    • I went to JB and saw the price of $399, I didn't have gift cards so I didn't buy.

  • How is this on sale already?

    • just costco pricing

  • +1

Picked one up for $341.99 at OW, thanks!

    • Did u shave to show Costco membership

      • +9

        Yeah, scrotum and all.

      • They didn't ask me at Highett VIC.

  • OW Carnegie VIC refused my price beat request.

    • Ouch. Worked perfectly fine for me. Not sure what changed, another shift of staff?

      • Yeah prolly another shift of staff, Chadstone store was happy to do a price beat when I called, hopefully they still got stock tmr.

        • As long as it is within their terms and conditions, I'd ask to speak to the manager. This has successfully got me a price match a few times when the staff member initially refused.

          • @ihfree: Thanks ihfree yeah I should try this next time.

  • If JB can price match, it would be an excellent deal.

  • +2
  • OW Kotara in Newcastle refused to price match

  • Just got it done at OW, they were a bit iffy about it but got it for $341.05!

  • Price matched at Fyshwick ACT

    • a pair

  • Price beat at OW Fremantle, WA. Thanks OP!

  • +2

If you want them engraved when paying full price from Apple, then the same engravings appear on the little picture of the case on your iPhone screen when syncing them.

  • +1

I managed to get a pair price beat from OW Woolloongabba, plenty of stock left.

I called in to OW Mt. Gravatt first and they said they would price beat but at the time of writing they had no stock. Expect 2-3 business days.

    • I just went there now and the guy refused

  • OW Glen Waverley also price beat for me. Got them for $341.05

    • +1

Thanks for the tip! Went there this morning and got it price beat as well, for $341.99.

They already knew what I was talking about and didn't even check my membership card!

  • Price matched at ow airport west victoria. Thanks op!
