Wireless Xbox 360 Controller for Windows for $35+ $4.90 Postage at MightyApe

191

This controller is compatible with PC and Xbox. It includes the dongle for PC.

Microsoft sells two products that include an Xbox wireless controller:
http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/Xbox360/Accessories/Controllers/xb…
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/xbox-360-wireless-…

Fortunately, the controllers in each product are identical but one contains a PC dongle.

EDIT: Microsoft's customer service told me over the phone that this item and retailer qualifies for the cashback offer. Unfortunately, their customer service team made a mistake because Mighty Ape is not an Australian retailer so cashback is not available for this item.

  • From the cashback's terms and conditions:

    1. Purchase any eligible Microsoft hardware product from any participating Australian retailer* between 24.5.2012 and 5.7.2012.

MightyApe is a New Zealand based retailer. Are you sure they qualify?

    • I bought the controller from the other post, and it is being sent by AusPost…. So, I'd assume it's shipped from AU at least.

They are based in NZ and Australia. I asked Microsoft and they said this product and retailer qualifies.

Also an ABN is required for a .COM.AU domain name so they are an Australian retailer.

      • i also confirmed the above with Microsoft (including confirmation that mythbror had already asked them earlier today! aha)

        • Have you received a confirmation email from Microsoft?
          If so please do share.

        • nah, called them on the phone.

OP, should be $26.99 cashback in the title.

    • Yep. See list.

      • So after cash back it is $26.99 ?

        • no, the cashback is $26.99. after cashback it's $12.91, as per the original post.

  • If the cash back works this is a great deal. Net cost for controller $12.91.

  • Lol, just pulled the trigger.
Should of purchased it yesterday when it was going for $29.xx

  • Nice thanks. Should be good for those crappy pc ports that are better to play with a controller.

    • We have some of these (and other USB controllers) permanently connected to my son's gaming PC.

Not all PC games are supported… pretty much these only work with "Microsoft Live" games. Rugby Live, etc.

They don't get detected as a normal "Game Controller", hence don't appear in the menu choices for controller (rather than keyboard+mouse).

Just FYI- I sent Msoft an email re the kinect offer earlier this year (although a different offer T&C may be the same). Their reply is below:

    to me
    Hi Anthony,

Unfortunately because Mighty Ape is based in NZ, it is not an eligible store for this promotion. For more info on terms and conditions please visit www.kinectoffer.com.au/tc

    • Did they go to the australian website?

      Phone: 1800 895 191
      Mighty Ape
      PO Box 2263
      Redcliffe North 4020
      Queensland

      I found that here - http://www.mightyape.com.au/help/contact/

      Seems very Australian to me…

      • That's just a PO Box not a physical office address

  • +1

Mighty Ape's tax invoice does not have an ABN. The details on the invoice all point to their NZ office. The receipts that Microsoft require need to have an ABN for the claim to be eligible I think.

Funny how we see people bagging websites posted here, going all crazy over how there's no ABN on the website. Yet, no one picked up that there's no ABN on Mighty Ape.

    • Very interesting…. I can't find any ABN references for Mighty Ape at all, yet they are clearly operating within Australia. :/

      • I found this on MightyApe.com.au:
        "How Mighty Ape evolved:
MightyApe.com.au was launched in March 2010, but we've been operating in New Zealand since 2008, and in Australia under our old "Gameplanet Store" brand since 2002."

I'm going to call them on Monday morning and demand they provide me with an Australian invoice including ABN. If not, I'll just cancel the order.

      • I'll just emailed and facebooked them to provide the ABN. An ABN lookup for both virtual stores(their paypal account is VSTORES which as their original new zealand name, credit card bills as VSTORES AU) and gameplanet doesnt show any registered ABN.

So depending on whether they can cough up an ABN on this issue we will know how "legally" they are operating in Australia…

        • update : they told me they are working on getting an aus ABN. Personally I hope they don't as this means GST for them and means prices will be up 10% on all items generally speaking.

The warehouse is in redcliffe slightly up north of brisbane city (nice fishing from the piers there)

and my 2 controllers came in a mighty ape labelled box very well packed via registered post with delivery confirmation.

hope they have a massive PS3 controller discount soon hehehe…

    Was cheaper yesterday http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/72558
No one have provide any solid evidence that cash bach apply to this.

    • +2

Bought one yesterday. 35 bucks for this controller is a good deal to me already.

      • Well that's it in a nutshell really. RRP is ~$80, and AU shops don't usually have it anywhere below $70..

  • In the words of Strongbad… (Comment) Deleted!!!!

  • You guys know if this promotion works for the "Elite Official Wireless Gamepad Controller BLACK XBOX 360" I bought one yesterday from www.ozgameshop.com
    for only $35 shipped http://www.ozgameshop.com/xbox-360-accessories/elite-officia…

Please let me know, i really hope it does as I would be bummed if I missed out on this great deal.

    • Pretty sure ozgameshop is UK based so you wouldn't be able to get the cashback.

  • can i use this controller for Fifa 12 PC version?

  • Emailed the Microsoft cashback people & got same reply as Fix (above).
I also emailed MightyApe & their response was that they are not an eligible Australian retailer (for the purposes of the Microsoft cashback).
    So no cashback :(

    • other people on the mightyape controller original thread are bragging that it is approved. hmmmmmmm guess we will have to wait and see.

      • We're telling you what was told to us on the phone by Microsoft…how is that bragging?

Obviously there is some confusion at Microsoft. But we were told they definitely would be accepted.

        • but there is no abn on their invoice and from the website to address printed on the invoice are all showing it is an NZ company. have you received your cashback?

  • Thanks OP, ordered one this arvo, if I get the cash-back it's a bonus, but I'm not holding my breath!

  • +2

Just confirmed with mightyape they will not be providing an invoice with Australian ABN.

They were happy to cancel my order.

    • thanks for the info dude.

  • Does anyone know where is the cheapest find for this controller with a valid cashback?

(whilst also proving to be cheaper than $35+shipping)

    • You won't find an AU retailer selling cheaper than $35+shipping… The cheapest I've seen anyone here selling them was about $65.

      • +1

Target will be selling them for $59 in store, from Thursday. Catalogue link:
        http://target.dynamiccatalogue.com.au/offer/xbox-360-accesso…

Edit: I think the cashback only applies to the Xbox Controller "for Windows"

        • Well there you go.. And no, the cashback does apply to the Xbox-only controller as well.

That brings it down to $32 - impressive!

        • Brilliant..

Now this is what OZbargain is about… resourcefulness.

          Target also has Xbox 360 4GB + Kinect + extras for $349
          http://target.dynamiccatalogue.com.au/offer/xbox-360-console…

Seems reasonable considering the hard drive sells for $149.

        • Oh wait…. No! The cashback is different to the one running a couple months ago.. This one doesn't include the Xbox-only controllers. =/

          Sorry for the misinformation.

        • +1

I have confirmation from Microsoft that this (Target) Xbox controller is eligible.

I am currently waiting for Mighty Ape to cancel the order. It's funny how I receive a 'your order has been shipped' soon after I tell them I want to cancel it.

        • yeah I saw that deal a few days after I bought the DSE one ($199).
For $327 I got the same as that except for Just Dance 3 & TV mount.
I bought the 320GB drive for $128 from EB games

keep an eye.. they could have more stock in the next few days

  • Anyone had issues with cancellation of order with Mighty Ape?

I emailed them to cancel my order and about a few hours later, they sent me an order confirmation email.

The next day, I was told the order has been shipped and cannot be cancelled. I find it weird that they ship out the order after I email them to cancel it?

  • Received the xBox controller fine. No invoice has been provided at all, so it's pretty much impossible to even attempt to claim the cashback. I thought by law retailed must provide an invoice?

    • +1

I received my Xbox controller on Friday, no invoice came with it but you can download a PDF invoice from their website, under your account / orders section. There should be a link to this in the "Order Shipped" email. I guess electronic invoice is enough these days?

  • I also did not received an invoice.

I rang them requesting an invoice. The invoice received was NZ based.

I have just emailed them requesting an Australian arm invoice.

    Fingers crossed!

    • Can you advise whether you got this……

      • I was advised that they are a NZ trading company and do not offer an Australian invoice.
