Got an email from Google
Chromecast with Google TV now available in HD version for $59. Might be helpful for those having only HD TV or turning monitors with HDMI into TV.
Thanks

Yeah RRP doesn’t mean it’s a deal.
Thought I read somewhere that the HD version sells for US$30 in the States, so there is quite a markup for the Aussie market?
Edit: see https://www.gsmarena.com/chromecast_with_google_tv_hd_goes_o…
always get the aussie premium unfortunately
US$30 is approx. AUD$45, add GST so close to AUD$50 should be about the right price. We always get ripped by Google, such as the Pixel 6 (US$599 v AU$999).
Interestingly, Microsoft's are the opposite, once you factor in exchange rates and GST, we pay less than the US.

US$599 + GST is actually equivalent to AU$999.
You're correct (now), though when the Pixel 6 was released the AUD was buying 75c, so should have been under $900 with GST. They do factor in exchange rate changes but Google are less tolerant than some other companies.
@sinners007: There's duty to pay and logistics too. Doesn't seem like a lot of markup.
In this case you should mostly complain about living in Oz than being ripper by Google.

Now it is.
In October last year when the phone was released US$599 + GST came out to be around AU$880
What about US sales taxes?
Not a deal, it's a newly released product.
HoDl
For those wondering HD is up to 1080p HDR, 60 FPS
Cheers. That’s great. Was after another for a full HD tv, so glad to save a bit of money.
Not a bargain - it's the standard price of the new unit
So is the only difference 4k vs 1080p? If it's the case, at RRP, this is the one to get for most people……hopefully some deals bring it down to closer to $40-50.
I haven't seen "actual" specs, but the information I read yesterday said the HD has a lesser processor and 1.5GB RAM (compared to 2GB for the 4K). The HD has android 12 which the 4K will never be able to upgrade to due to storage space. The HD "streams" updates instead of downloading them, then installing.
4K version Android 12 update is coming soon.

Just rung Officeworks and they’ll beat the $59 by 5% 👍
nah, this is just HD, OW only has 4k version. Not a similar product.
Maybe OW weren’t aware and he managed to get 5% off the 4k version haha (5% off $59 that is).
Thats would be a real bargain!
But don’t think OP here got it, rather it looks like OP was blindly suggesting “Get OW to pricematch” one of many famous one-liners used here in OzB 😂😬
Why buy HD version when the original UHD for a little more?
Because you may own an old, HD-only TV or you might have just found one on the kerb or got it from friends, and you can't see any difference in the picture anyway, so you'd rather save $40, which is pretty natural for OzB users.
Endless possibilities here.
Product release does not = Bargain
Hey it's finally out, once we get actual discounts this could be a good option for people who prefer the Google TV interface and don't need 4K.
Specs are identical to the old version but they have locked it to 1080p.

Also 1.5GB vs 2GB of RAM.
Thanks for pointing that out, that's what I get for barely skimming one article.
No. Lower specced processor, less ram. Not sure about storage yet.
Storage is the same, 8GB. Where did you get the info on the CPU?
This thing is so new the full specs are hard to find, and Google is being sneaky and removed much of the more detailed spec info from the official page.
any cpu comparison?
cpu frequency 1.2G vs 1.9G
RRP, no deal.
I guess OP was excited about this release but this is Ozbargain and not OzRRP.
Usually I don't mind ozRRP but just buy the 4k version.
There two versions now? New product?
Re: Got an email from Google
Google spammed you! , then you post it here as a so called bargain?
RRP is NOT a bargain!
Thanks for your kind words!!!
You're very welcome……. to ummm
So Google are trying to tell me that there is a $40 difference in components between the HD vs 4K version? If they can make a profit at $59 for the HD version the markup on the 4K version could be enormous. They should have just reduced the normal RRP for the 4k version to $79 and saved themselves some hassle

This is called market segmentation, my friend. Cheap products for the poor/frugal and expensive ones for the rich. It doesn't matter if they are only slightly different, or even exactly the same.
Have one of those $100 720p projectors in the bedroom - perfect for it.
This is just RRP, no deal here
Same price at JB

My condolences OP.. I feel like this will be a good character building exercise though
RRR, good movie
Isn’t it a better idea to get the 4k version even if you have a HD tv for better performance? One would think so
Yep the 4K uses a Amlogic S905D3G while this newer HD version uses the Amlogic S805X2
idk why anyone would want this when you can spend $20 more for a 4k version like This
RRP especially on a easily available item is not a deal
RRP price isn't a deal
Worst bargain ever…you should feel ashamed.
Looks like the gigs up guys, the Goodguys removed it from their website.
Did anyone actually get this deal or did you all wait ages for nothing like fools
not a deal, rrp.
