Issues with 64GB microSD SanDisk Ultra Class 10 cards from MemoryCity deals

I've had 2 of these cards fail now (100% failure rate). And someone else just posted that their card has also failed. Please note that I have previously bought 2 of the 64GB class 6 SanDisk ultras from memory city and they have been fine.

Basically, once you put the card through a crystal disk mark benchmark, it dies. I put every card I buy through this proces on the exact same pc. Here is the link to what happened (scroll to the bottom)…

Anyone else who bought these should immediately pull it from whatever device and run the benchmark on it (after saving off their data).

Then be prepared to wear the $4 cost to post it back, but make sure you go for a refund rather than replacement, otherwise you will be down $8 like me lol.

  • mine was alright after running it

    • Did you do the default 5x1000MB test? I'd do it a couple of times just to make sure.

Also while you're there, what were the speeds? You can select copy from the edit menu and just paste the output here.

  • Have you checked with Sandisk that they're actually genuine?

    • Allthough I couldn't test my 2 cards because they crapped out. There are 2 users so far who have run h2testw and they are the full 64GB, and you don't tend to get superfast full capacity fakes. I've also bought from here many times before without issue. It just looks like a bad batch to me - 3 dead out of 100 is too many.

  • Just an update to finish this…

I arranged for a 3rd card to be delivered with a USB card reader one last time. And I can confirm I'm 3rd time lucky. I have absolutely thrashed the crap out of this card with benchmarks etc now and its working as expected.

Ironically, the (free) USB reader they sent me couldn't take it, and began to crap out after a single CDM run lol. I initially thought I'd gotten yet another duff card, but I tried my old card reader (the same one that the previous 2 cards died in) and this card hasn't looked back.

MemoryCiti have been great to deal with (once this the issues were raised on one of their later OzBargain deals). They have refunded me both return shipping costs and sent me a free USB reader (which doesn't work lol). But I'm more than happy to deal with them again.

  • My third card has just died today … As soon as I start copying data around on these cards they fall over on me, never to get up. This one mounts in Windows for about 2 seconds and then disappears. I am reading that the Class 6 64GB cards form Sandisk seem to be ok. Time to send number three back.

  • I had the same issue with SanDisk 64GB Ultra Micro SD Class 10 I bought this week.

Thery asked me to send the card back and I asked them a prepaid satchel. Now I'm waiting..

  • I haven't bought the 64 Gb ones but others that I have bought from here have been perfectly fine.

  • Got a replacement and a prepaid envelope to return the faulty one. The only problem that the new one, worked ok for 1 day.
Also others are experiencing similar issues http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/84019

  • My Class10 32 GB card died today.
Have sent a message to memorycity.
Is there a way to request replacement/ refund? Not even sure what all data I would be loosing as a result of the card dying unexpectedly.
    Varun

    • card dying unexpectedly.

memory cards, as with any other single storage options (inc harddrives) are inherently at risk of data loss…… back up anything on mass storage that you cant afford to lose, if you can afford to lose it dont complain when the disk goes down and you lose data.

if you cant get warranty service to replace your card (or drive) thats when you have something to complain about :)

      [/rant over data loss complaints]

  • My Sandisk 32gb class 10 died yesterday and i'm waiting for a response from Memorycity.

  • these cards are probably fakes, im in the manufacturing business ans chances are these cards have 16GB or memory with a modified controller. To put simply its got a V8 badge on the outside with a 4 cylinder donk under the hood.

Its common practice in china to do this, once you read/write pass 16bg (or the actual memory installed on the card) the device will fail and you cannot recover.

This is why when you run Crystal Reports / Test programs the Cards will fail and will not recover after that.
