I have the chance to buy a floor model QN90B 50" for $1300 - is this a worthwhile deal? Seems like a solid mark down, but I'm unsure of any gotchas to look out for when buying floor model tvs.
Worth buying a Display TV/Floor model?
Comments
One of the interns who joined my team recently used to work at JB and HN - he was telling me about how much damage and misuse happens to display electronics.
I would stay away personally but you should check
Accessories, original cables, remote etc
Physical defects including cracks, indentations, depressed screen
Screen burn in if oled and just in general as most TVs are kept on for the entire day and at close some staff are lazy and switch off the main power (not an expert so not sure of the ramifications of this)
How dusty it isI used to work in Telco and would never buy a display device having seen how they're handled
I say no, unless there's a massive discount like 50%+
Those units are turned on at least 12 hours/day 7 days per week, and probably on the floor for 12 months before they cycle out.
That's 4300 hours runtime.
My last TV died with 13000 hours runtime. So a third of its life is already burned through. You'll get through the warranty period fine, but it's the years after warranty that you're chewing into.
Good luck convincing a manufacturer that they should replace a unit in good faith cause it died early in years, but not early in actual runtime.Worth buying a Display TV/Floor model?
Depends on the price and the tv's condition.
RRP is 2495,
Sale is 1995.
Samsung Edu store 1799.This at $1300 seems within the range of acceptable. It's almost 50% off RRP.
Have a google to find the service menu so you can see total operation hours.
+200 gift card at jb lol
As long as there are no problems and you get full warranty go for it.
It should have full warranty, unless it has already been sold to someone and returned
I have no experience with purchasing display units, but I'd say:
- check warranty terms
- make sure all accessories are included
