Crazytel Landline Setup Help Please

Heya there,

So i had been lurking on deals/forums here for ages and wanted to leave TPG years ago but didnt because my old man uses the landline and that was linked to TPG. Anyway i kept reading about just go with Crazytel for the phone and then you can freely move to cheaper internet. So that's what i've done.

I can't figure the setup for Crazytel at all, the language is way over my head, i dont know what SIP drunks and DIDs are etc, all i want is to use the landline as it was working as VOIP with TPG but to have it on a third party provider, free from the NBN provider. So after successfully porting now i can MAKE calls with the landline phone but i can't receive anything, just get a busy signal.

Can someone please in layman's terms let me know how i make the number work now that is is ported? What do i actually have to do? I have the Archer vr1600v2 thing that has been spoken about recently in the More Internet threads as the standard TPG modem/router thing. I believe it will work but i have abso nfi how to configure it, what any of the acronyms on their website mean or what im meant to do, and reading their "help" is no help at all. Anyone plz can help i would apprecaite!

Thanks!

  • The Netcomm Guide might give you a better idea of what goes where on your TP-Link

  • Did you call Crazytel help desk to get help in setting it up?

  • +1

Did this last week. What you need, just sent me a DM or ask here :)

    • thanks i was hoping so much someone had done it recently. So do i need to activate SIP TRUNK and DID (or is a ported nbr already a DID?) in my router or? Also step 1 of their guide says:

      1. The first step is to Setup a SIP Trunk. We offer two types of SIP Trunks, Registration Based and IP Authentication. Please see our setup guides for these below.

      - Register Based SIP Trunk: https://knowledge.crazytel.com.au/en/knowledgebase/article/h…
      - IP Authentication SIP Trunk: https://knowledge.crazytel.com.au/en/knowledgebase/article/h…

But gives no indication which one you would choose or why? Like how do i know which one to use?

  • I've used 1st one - https://knowledge.crazytel.com.au/en/knowledgebase/article/h…

Also bought DID number - this is your phone number for incoming calls. It's $1/monthly.

After setting up SIP trunk setup your voip router/modem.
For settings see here - https://knowledge.crazytel.com.au/en/knowledgebase/article/n…
use 1xxxxxxxx number for password and CID, not your DID (phone number if you purchase any).
Modems have options to check connections, but also you can see status here - https://portal.crazytel.com.au/show_registration.php

    • Thans i managed the SIP Trunk part now, now im struggling with the Tp-Link interface, it doesnt have Voice or VOIP like their netcomm example, in fact i can't find anything remotely comparable. No idea how to setup the tp-link archer even tho i can see someone on whirlpool got theirs working here: https://imgur.com/cHzcffr

but where on earth is this menu even? i just dont even know how he got in there?

edit: maybe this is a better pic: https://i.imgur.com/I5Dh97b.png

i cannot for the life of me find where this is

  • is this TPG modem? You have to login with su account, not admin.
Admin account is restricted and doesn't have access to voip settings.

    • yes it is the TPG modem, the archer thing, TP-Link thing, sorry what is SU account? OKay i had zero idea about that and never would have guessed that.

  • You should have access to this menu here - https://www.tp-link.com/au/support/faq/2020/
    Advanced->Telephony

    • i cant understand, can you please tell me what is "SU account"? I dont know how to log into the router and get the options that are hidden from me. If i ethernet into the router rather than wireless would that be sufficient, please?

edit: another thing is that my NBN is being churned within a few days so could i possibly wait for the churn and use those details, would that make it easier?

    See here - https://www.marcelvarallo.com/archer-vr1600v-getting-root-or…

TPG have setup real admin account, named su for their usage and provided users with account named admin, but restricted.

Use firmware from that link to get entry again to VOIP settings.

Are you connected at the moment to any provider?

    • THANK YOU that Firmware flash worked. Had no idea i would have to go through ALL of this just to even get access to VOIP on my router, absolutely ridiculous. If anyone else is porting from TPG to Crazytel i hope they find this thread and it saves them trouble.

      • go through ALL of this just to even get access to VOIP on my router, absolutely ridiculous.

my setup was pretty straight forward. all the instructions are on their website.

        • oh i still cant get it to work, im not sure why, im following the one other person ont he internet who posted his settings to the letter but it isnt working for me. At least i can see on my router it is possible to do tho now, even that wasnt before

          • @Iggemo: you can always just setup a softphone in the meantime…

    • So ive followed the instructions the other guy used, no dice, i can create my number and forward it to device, which is the SIP trunk which was created, but isnt showing up as registered correctly. No idea what is wrong, if i am using cordless phones plugged into my router (this always worked before with TPG) is there anything else i need to do, do i need to enable something else too? Just not sure what im doing wrong but it wont come up as registered for whatever reason.

  • Setup phone settings as here from your picture - https://i.imgur.com/I5Dh97b.png

Also when you setup settings, make sure you set line 1 and connect phone to line 1 on the modem.

For outbound proxy I am using sip.crazytel.net.au as well.

    • Thanks yeah i have the exact same as that pic although, like you, i thought it made more sense to have sip.crazytel.net.au as outbound as well rather than sydney or brisbane prefix. I've checked the line physically on the mode, is the corresponding one, it just wont register for me for some reason (doesnt appear in Sip Registrations in tool box at Crazytel). I'm not sure what im doing wrong, tried rebooting everything several times and double-checking.

Anyway i think ive spent enough time on this today, thanks a lot for your help! You got me way further than i would have that's for sure. I might tomorrow contact their customer support and ask for more specialised help, maybe they can see precisely where the problem is, not sure! Thanks again tho!

edit: OMG i think i got it, it's so STUPID. I sent you two pics and the two pics in my above post are different. Here is the critical point: https://imgur.com/cHzcffr

the phone number is actually the account number, so you dont enter the phone nbr anywhere! LOL It's coming up now!

Yep, told you above - enter only 1xxxx numbers as CID and login username, no DID (phone number). Had the same issue :)

    • i knew i read it somewhere ;) Thanks for all your help, really appreciate that!
