Old Collectable LEGO - Best Way to Sell?

Just found out an older lego set that I still have (though not in it's box), is worth over $700 (more if there was a box, which I'm gonna hunt for lol)

What would be the best way to sell? Try FB Marketplace and see if there's a local collector? Figured eBay is still messy, what with the fees and chances of getting screwed around

(No, this isn't a Classifieds ad masking as a Forum Post. I could post in there if I wanted to!)

    try also Bricklink or Brickowl

Also consider local auction houses. Sure, it's not as wide an audience as FB or eBay and yes, you will lose commission (usually 20% give or take) but the lack of hassle is a huge positive.

However, be aware that some sets just have to go online given the nature of what they are. I have several myself that local AHs won't touch as the market for them is too niche.

There's a Lego Buy Swap Sell Australia style group on FB that you might get some interest.

I checked the EBay sold listing for that set. The manual alone is selling for $100ish. Even if you don’t find the box keep your eyes out for the manual.

Yeah I've got the manual 🙂

There are a stack of buy/sell/swap groups on FB. Probably the easiest place to move LEGO unless you have a heap and want to get serious, but it's a lot of work.

That set you linked is worth about $700 with all parts probably in good condition, so well worth selling if you have everything and it's in good condition (sails good and pieces unfaded etc)

See if you can buy yourself a box from bricklink to increase your value of sale.
I generally search fb every day and also change the location of my search to major cities so I can find more sets instead of searching 200kms from my location

    • Set your search location to Australia.

  • Cheers all!

Part of me is considering tracking down a box and just keeping it for my kids as some form of investment down the track. I doubt it's going to drop in price now

Annual growth % diminishes over time so holding isn't worth it. Look at brickeconomy data for examples.

Unless you have no other way to make money with your money.

  • You probably should build the set to prove it's complete, if it's not built.

  • I remember just gazing at that catalogue at that set as a kid. TV ads at the tine didn't help.

  • box alone will cost you 150 to 200, don't use ebay you pay 14% of sale price i think. which is ridiculous.

  • Lol, someone is selling the box only for $200 on this set. wtf is wrong with people.

    • Manual is $100 or so! Probably selling to idiots like me who want to build up the whole set lol

Better off looking at the sold category, everything in mint condition and its worth $1100, the box alone is about $150, manual $100, so a full set in mint condition without those other 2 should be roughly $850.

  • I’m gonna have to get the instructions and cobble together a set from all the parts I have. MAKE a complete set.

General FB marketplace is not great as it’s too location specific. Won’t search outside your chosen area. Also don’t like the way it offers other suggestions despite not specifically searching for them. You also need to set a price and put up with lowballers.

FB groups might work better as the members are more specialised.

eBay is good in that it’s international, good for searching and an auction will give you best price (less fees). But it’s not what it was pre local free listings being popular.
