Expired Warranty on DualSense with Stick Drift from EB Games

Hi guys, first time posting here, but I've seen a few posts about expired warranties here.

I was just wondering if anyone's had experience getting a DualSense repair from PlayStation Support? I bought this last year in June 2021, and its barely used but I've noticed it developing stick drift recently. The problem is, both PlayStation Support and EB Games have said that because my warranty is out, they can't help me in any capacity.

Any suggestions or am I wasting time? Is it unreasonable for a relatively expensive product to last more than a year and a bit?

Did you mention ACL rights? If not, go back and state it explicitly and they'll likely replace it.

    • That's what I was hoping to get advise on. Because while I could just trade it in and price match a controller to bring down cost, I'm not really solving the issue but sidestepping it. Is there anything specifically that I need to mention in this page?

      • You're not supposed to trade in a broken controller

My store knows its broken, I think they knock off a couple of $$$ and they refurbish it.

@bargainsheep017: Oh ok thats cool. Definitely keep pushing for a repair/replacement.
I'd try EB Games, they should accept if you mention ACL but if they don't budge try Sony.

            • @FireRunner: I had the same situation last year. Sony doesnt give a stuff, the EB Games staff understood but said they couldnt replace it , but they could fix it for $39 with a 3/6months warranty.

  • It's worth under $100 I don't think ACL will help much here unfortunately , buying the V2 helps reduce it I've heard

I wasn't aware that ACL stated a limit of not applying to devices under $100?

Sure if the OP bought a cheap knock off, arguing a failure at just over 1 year might be harder, but any reasonable person would expect a genuine controller to last longer than 1 year. I don't follow PS5 stuff but from a quick Google it looks to be a well documented issue with the controllers.

OP should definitely going back to EB and putting the wind up them about honouring their ACL obligations. If the store won't help, then email their head office and submit a complaint to Fair Trading in their state.

      • Thanks for this. I might try their head office.

  • Buy a new one and return the new with the old broken one, normally wouldn't recommend this as it is borderline scummy imo but in this case of they don't replace it under ACL I personally would not have a problem using this method

  • I had the exact issue. Is yours a white one? I bought mine in Feb 20, then never used it until march 21 as I gave birth after I bought it. Eb Games basically said too bad so sad. I emailed Sony, they also fobbed me off. Bought another one and exact same issue with the same colour, diff serial codes.

    • Mine is the red one, but same deal with yours.
