Driver didn't stop. Wondering what is the rule for this?
Got a big bump on the passenger door and some paint missing, probably $700 to $800 to fix it properly.

I'm not sure. I hit a roo a few years ago in a work car, projecting it onto another car and completely writing it off. Insurance didn't do anything for the other car. They said they're not responsible for roos. I was surprised, I was sure they'd be covered cos if I hadn't hit the roo, it wouldn't have hit their car but they just said no.
Interesting, what if the other car veered into a powerpole and it fell and damaged your car.
If you were parked, I would assume they would be liable for all damages.
If you were driving, would they also be liable?
It was in your lane as well. As to blaming the council it may have just fallen and no one has reported and the public wants trees close to the road.
The road i live on had a dangerous tree when the council went to prune it (not remove it) 2 of my neighbours went out to scream at the workers and as they wouldnt stay clear the job was postponed 3 days later the large limb fell across the road luckily not hitting anyone it could have killed a cyclist outright or potentially seriously injure some one in a car.
Thats my rant for the day.
Fkn lol you were gonna hit it regardless.
Basically a whole tree lying on the road and neither of you saw it.
The other posts have already covered it. So I won't repeat it again.
Had to do some paint job and dents (hit and run in car parks) twice previously. They ended up around 300 for both incidents.
Try to get some quotes from the mobile scratches or dents specialists in your area. I found the quotes from those actual shop front were much more expensive.
You will be surprised that they likely cost less than your excess plus, protect your no claim bonuses and premium for the coming years.
Did you stop and remove the branch from the road after op?
Might save the life of a motorcyclist.
Tried contacting your local branch manager?
I kid :(
Not much you can do…
same as rocks hitting windscreen when driving on highway
If the other driver swerved into it, I can see some blame.
Tbh I don't think you've got a leg to stand on.
Get glasses asap
I had something similar happen to me where I was behind a car on a freeway and the car ahead swerved into debris which flung it at my bonnet. Switched lanes after that and could see the car continuing to swerve and flick up debris. I'm not saying this is the case here but I feel for you.
In my case I didn't want to make a claim which would increase the premium. Even though I was a fair distance it's just one of those things. Sucks big time.
Don’t drive garage queen cars on the street if you can’t get it damaged. If a truck flicks a stone from the tires and you lose a windscreen it’s bad luck. Not sure where the other posters are getting their ‘facts’. It is not like someone in the other car lobbed the branch. Accidents like this are what insurance is for.
What has the world come to?
Using the forums to blame ”wonder about” the legal responsibilities of other people, rather than taking responsibility.
Just unlucky. Suck it up and go get your car fixed.
This is what comprehensive car insurance is for - check your excess and effect on your no-claim bonus and weigh it up versus paying for it yourself.
Too bad unfortunately. Had a similar incident where a stone flicked up on the freeway and cracked my windscreen from the car in front. Nothing you can do about it.
see branch, go fast.
act of god. See film. Man who sued god.
No ones fault. Shi t happens. You cant always find someone else to blame for the problems you encounter in your life
Sue the tree
I AM GROOT
Why is the dashcam recording in portrait mode?
There must have been a cyclist within a few k's , definitely the cyclists fault IMO
I agree about a the stone not being the drivers fault though, as stones flicking up are a normal part of driving on the road.
A large branch is different though.
