Looking for Steam Oven Recommendations

We are thinking to replace our 10+ years old oven (built-in, came with the apartment) with a steam oven.

I'm after a steam oven that has a good steam function. We love steaming things, specially fish. We always struggle to steam one fish (whole fish, the Cantonese style) because of the size of the fishes, the steam oven should be able to easily handle 2 fishes without making a mess (I can eat one whole fish by myself, so it'll be good if we can steam more than one at the same time).

I'm looking at the Miele 60cm Steam Oven, it's a bit pricey but we are willing to pay for it.

Have anyone used a steam oven before? Would love to hear what's your experience with it before pulling the trigger.

Thanks!

  • Looked at this option but personally for the number of times i'd use it it would be a waste.
Can always steam things in any old oven by covering in foil though and trapping the moisture in.

  • Have had an Electrolux compact combi-steam oven for 4 or 5 years and it has been great. Mostly used as a regular oven/grill but worth having steam if just for the steam clean function, the only hard part to clean is around the top element.

    Bought from https://www.homeclearance.com.au/c/kitchen/cooking/ovens/?product_categories[]=5067&product_categories[]=7939

  • +1

We have a Bosch steam oven, and after using the function when we first got it, haven’t used it since

  • If you are looking at an oven have a look at this one HRG6769B2A. I bought this 3 weeks ago and I am blown away how good it is. The assist function is nothing short of amazing you select what kind of food you are cooking and press the start and it does it for you. Temperature goes to 300 so the pizzas are so tasty now. It's easy to use.

I was also looking at steam oven and one of my friends have it and he goes I think my wife has used it like three times she just uses the normal oven.

  • Got a Miele. It's been running like a champ, other than this tiny plastic bit for sucking up water from the water jug that needs to be replaced every couple of years, so get the extended warranty. Not a user-serviceable part, unfortunately.

Oh, and it will want you to descale it at the most inconvenient time.

  • Got this from a previous Ozbargain deal and it is great!

    https://anovaculinary.com/anova-precision-oven/

Steams fish and other stuff without issue.

Also use the partial steam function to keep crispy food moist, absolutely fantastic.

Best things is that with moderate steam, frozen pies/spring rolls/nuggets/fish fillets cook in about 50%-70% of the listed time and taste absolutely great.

Cheapo option is the below for steaming fish - $35 and can easily fit in two or more fishes to steam.

Only issues is that your sink needs to be big enough to clean it.

  • I have a $2K plus steam oven built in…. used once in last 7 years

  • How do these steam ovens compare against Anova Precision Oven which also uses steam?
