I did and lot of options. Not sure which one is actually Work

      • +14

Anti-snoring anything is really more a marketing ploy.

Saline Flush to clean out the nasal passage
septoplasty and turbinate trim to straighten and decongest the nose and septum (if deviated)
Cpap machine - if sleep apnoea - these work great
        Lose weight
        Stop drinking alcohol.

All of the above will do far more than a pillow. All i can suggest is a high density supporting foam pillow will help stop the airway closing up during sleep. I have a dentons and it does the trick

If all else fails any old pillow will work at smothering said partner - cheapest long term option tbh.

          • +1

@ylangylang55: Mine is just a standard high foam filled dentons pillow.

I'm guessing they add anti snoring onto it and it doubles in price.
But looks like it would do a similar job.

          • +2

@ylangylang55: Mate a pillow isn't going to solve snoring.

You might as well be posting "what homeopathic combination of liquids will cure my cancer".

All the things Drakesy mentioned are valid things that will help actually solve the root cause.

            • @coffeeinmyveins: All the thing that Drakesy mentioned aren’t available for me mate.

              • @ylangylang55:

                I'm genuinely curious: why not?

FYI, saline flushes can be done with something like a neti pot

Why would you want to stop snoring? Nothing wrong with snoring. In my opinion, it is probably is an evolved mechanism that enables you to sleep better by blocking out external noise.

If a partner snoring is bothering you, or vice versa, better to sleep in separate beds or separate bedrooms than trying to interfere with your natural breathing patterns.

          • +2

@ForkSnorter: It can be a sign of sleep apnoea which is a precursor to a heart attack

      • I use plastic nose cones. Insert them into the nose at bedtime and they keep the airways open.

    answer from missus archi…

it will be the same pillow that goes under your head as the one that goes over it.

    CPAP machine

    • +3

      expensive but they work

      • only $35 to trial for a week from ResMed, then look at your sleep data from the SD card with OSCAR (Open Source CPAP Analysis Reporter)

        • yep but they arent 35 to buy.. mine wasnt.

    • +1

On the nights I dont forget to put mine on, my wife says I go from cutting down trees, to quiet as a churchmouse.

    Anti Snoring Pillow

None of the pillows I've owned have ever snored.

    • I snore when I am very tired. Its more frequently now so I think may be should look for probably pillow

      • +4

        You need a sleep test

        • My wife just kicks me to do that…

          • +3

            @jv: see the GP ?

            • +4

              @ylangylang55:

              see the GP ?

Yes, I thought that Lewis Hamilton was going to win though.

            • +3

@ylangylang55: Start with the GP and they can help try and work out the cause of the snoring or refer you for a sleep study. I did a sleep study recently and was able to do it at home.

            • +3

@ylangylang55: yeah. You can ask your GP for a referral - you may get the sleep study covered by Medicare if you meet the criteria, which is very biased and outdated (they are looking for 50+yo overweight men).

Back to your original question, "anti snoring" pillows are too generic for it to work. It is best to research what is the best position for you to sleep and buy a pillow that support the position. It is more complicated than it sounds because there are many factors in play such as : 1. You have your own postural habits (eg. back or side sleeper) 2. You want to keep your airway as open/clear as possible 3. You don't want to create other musculoskeletal problems.

Sleep disorders are often misunderstood and undiagnosed. A lot of medical professionals including GPs and ENTs don't even understand it properly and don't take it seriously.

      • +2

        look for probably pillow

A bit risky, in case sometimes it's not a pillow.

  • +7

I think it's better to treat the cause of the snoring rather than the symptoms (snoring).

  • +2

Place the pillow over the face, apply pressure. Snoring will cease.

    • and then see you in heaven mate lol

    • +1

So… Are you saying this technique will stop them snoring for the rest of their life?

      Amazing.

  • +5

Are you asian? Typically the airways are a lot narrower so snoring is an issue for most asians. Book a sleep study in.

Edit: would love to see a reason for the neg. OP's user name is sort of asian looking and the narrow airways is something I'm aware of from personal experience…

    • +1

underrated comment. I wish more medical professionals in Australia would understand this. From the latest journal article I read, it mentioned Asians and Hispanics are at higher risk of compromised airway. Meanwhile, many screening tools and med professional rely on BMI.

    • +2

would love to see a reason for the neg.

Scared people that believe even mentioning race in any context is grounds for racism even if it's the truth. That and they probably stopped reading after "are you asian"

Different races can have different physical make ups, that's just fact and yours is literally that.

      • I know right. Especially funny since I am of asian descent. Guess clowns are gonna be clowns.

        • OMG! You’re Asian?
          How will we ever survive?😉

Hire a CPAP for a week - $35 (no min term)
    https://shop.resmed.com.au/resmed-airsense-10-autoset-cpap-t…
Then look at your sleep data on the OSCAR (Open Source CPAP Analysis Reporter).
If it looks like you have sleep apnea (OSCAR will tell you), then go buy a 2nd hand CPAP machine for a couple of hundred bucks.

  • Get a sleep test and likely a cpap. They work.

    • No bargain for OP.

Cool story bro, what's your point? What's with people like you and gatekeeping posting on this forum?

You've also been here for 12 years and posted 36 times, even less, so what's your point?

      • -2

My point is, is it so much to ask just to contribute to the community once in a while?

Even just one deal in between the dozens of forum posts literally asking to be spoonfed information?

        • +5

You've posted one deal a year on average

Not sure you can really call out someone else when you yourself aren't exactly a prolific deal poster.

And why do you care so much? People can post on the forums or post deals or a million other ways to engage with ozb. It doesn't affect you so just move on?

          • @coffeeinmyveins:

Not sure you can really call out someone else when you yourself aren't exactly a prolific deal poster.

Exactly where did I say someone had to be a "prolific deal poster"? I said "is it so much to ask just to contribute to the community once in a while?" in response to a user who has literally asked 107 questions and has not even tried to post a single deal for the community's benefit.

And why do you care so much? People can post on the forums or post deals or a million other ways to engage with ozb. It doesn't affect you so just move on?

And why do you care so much about my comment? I made a (admittedly passive-aggressive) comment about posting deals. People have downvoted, so clearly it was a bad take by some people and that's fine. I just came back to reply to you as you have asked me what my point was.

My comment doesn't affect you so just move on?

My wife is threatening to smother me with my pillow. So maybe that will be an anti snoring pillow.

    • Cheaper if she sits on your face…

  • +1

I sleep on one of these and it’s been an incredible help.

  • I stopped snoring when I started sleeping tilted up at an angle on a large pillow. I don't know if that's a universal remedy though!

I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL - THIS IS WHAT WORKS FOR ME. THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE.

I use a big wedge pillow with my normal pillow on top, sleep on my side, and sewed a small plastic ball onto the back of my pj top. I cut an old sock in half and sewed one end to the top, and make a pocket with the other half, to put the ball in. Then I sew the ball half to the sock part that's already attached to the pj top with a big darning needle and wool every time after I wash my pj top because I take the ball out before I wash my pjs.

The ball is supposed to stop you from rolling onto your back during your sleep. It works most of the time.

I also tape my mouth shut with micropore/skin tape - 1 or 2 strips. If using 2, one strip on each side of your lips. Don't put it on your bow on the top lip in the middle because it might pull it when you take the tape off in the morning and make it red, etc.

I tried a cpap machine and it was horrible! :-(( But I have a friend who's used one for years and loves it.

I also lost some weight which helps, especially if you're overweight and have a fat neck, apparently.

Another friend says those nasal strips from the chemist worked for her. I don't think she does anything else.

    • +1

My partner said use sticky tape put on my mouth :))

      • Micropore/skin tape is a lot gentler :-)

    • tapping mouth is quite dangerous no? What if somehow you really need to breathe through your mouth but is tapped.

      • Then take the tape off. I take it off when I need to cough or have a drink of water, etc. Then I put the tape back on.

But only try taping your mouth shut IF YOU CAN BREATHE THROUGH YOUR NOSE. If you want to try it, use the skin tape/micropore tape, like Nexcare brand, from the supermarket or chemist and only put one piece vertically or a little diagonally on one side of your lips so you have the other side free. There's at least one dentist recommending you do this to stop grinding your teeth at night as well. You can google it.

If you need to buy a new cpap, masks etc down the track checkout the U.S i no longer require one but i use to buy everything for a third to a quarter the price you have to pay here and that includes freight. A particular mask i liked costs about $230 here $75 from the USA delivered.

I am prepared to pay extra to support local businesses and to get a item quicker but money doesn't grow on trees.

    • $75 for the mask which included delivery yet and currency in usa or au?
