Singapore Airlines Tickets (Using Krisflyer Miles) on Waitlist

My international tickets on Singapore Airlines for early December has been on waitlist, since I booked them in June, using Krisflyer redemption miles. These have yet to be confirmed, and I am getting a little nervous as I really have to fly on those dates, as I am travelling to attend a function.

Can anyone share any tips on how to best manage this situation, outside of just waiting for the tickets to get confirmed? Are there any means in which I can get these tickets confirmed sooner rather than later?

Many thanks!

What did Singapore Airlines say when you called them?

    • -1

Do you actually think the airline would say anything helpful? It will be the official version that gaining a confirmed booking can't be guaranteed from a waitlist.
Variations of RTFM is not always helpful….

      • Do you think random strangers on the internet will have more helpful advice than the airline in this instance?

Yes, chances are the 'random strangers' of OzB have been in this situation before and the OP is just asking what such people might've done. That's the whole point of forums such as OzB and Whirlpool. However, as Stewardo said below, the AFF forum might be the better place to ask the question (rather than OzB or the airline)

the airline will tell you nothing re; waitlisted flights, they cant and wont do anything

    • What Amaris mentioned below; they can't tell if or when the flights will become confirmed.

    • Hello, Singapore Airlines…

This question might be better answered on a forum like Australian frequent flyer /Singapore/KrisFlyer

    • Thanks Stewardo; will post it on the AFF forum.

Do you have status with SQ? If you have PPS or Solitaire, the likelihood of success from calling up to chase the waitlist is actually quite high. If not, it's going to be a long shot for flights in December.

You can also get a sense of likelihood by checking seat availability on a service like ExpertFlyer - if business seats on the flights you're looking for are down to single digits/only available in the high fare classes, then that's also a good indication that the waitlist won't clear.

If it's that important to you to fly on a particular date, just be careful not to burn yourself both ways by missing out on a points seat and also ending up with sky high fares because of lack of flexibility.

The people on AusFF are very knowledgeable. Even if you don't share your flight date, post at least the route, cabin class and your frequent flyer status for them to be able to help.

If you want a guarantee of tickets on those dates - pay money.

given the state of the international travel market, I doubt your waitlist will clear

I would be planning my alternative now. remember 2wks before the waitlist date if it hasn't cleared its cancelled. so really you have 2.5months for them to clear or they will be cancelled

fwiw: I made 8 waitlisted flights 8months in advance - November book for June Fly (some saver and some advantage) for two different airports (heathrow and manchester) in the same country all within 2 or 3 days of each other, none of them cleared

    • Thanks for sharing your experience!

To be honest I would be surprised if it did clear. SQ flights are so busy at the moment & they would be able to sell this seat as a revenue flight 10x over. The only way these days is to book a confirmed redemption flight but you have to book these 10 months out to bag a seat.

They will probably just cancel the request two weeks out. You could try calling but they rarely give out additional information on waitlisted flights.

You may be very lucky & have this seat confirmed but I wouldn't be holding up much hope unfortunately……sorry :-(

    • Makes sense @Will146 !

      • Depending on your route, you could maybe look at other destinations. Say if you are looking at flying in to London, you could check other routes SQ operate like Milan, Barcelona, Rome, Copenhagen. You may find some of the quieter routes have Saver Awards left & then you can catch a short haul flight to your final destination.

    • Yeah exactly. Most SQ flights are running full.
Winning the lottery is probably easier right now than a Waitlist clearing IMO.

I'm flying next week on SQ in J but I booked on points this time last year when we were still in lockdown
