Purchase Rolex Watch Sydney based

Hi All,
Looking to purchase a brand new Rolex Watch.
Unfortunately none of authorised dealer in Sydney have available stock. They would not even guarantee if they can get one for me.
One of the store rep mentioned it could be more than a year wait.
I was unaware it is in such high demand and no supply.

I was looking at buying a date-just watch.

Anyone has any recommendations on how and where to buy a Rolex ?

Cheers.

you can cut the queue by telling the staff you're a member here. you should also get 20% off IIRC

    • I thought that was only for OzBargain Premium members?

    $17k watch…

    Nice flex.

  • Wouldn’t recommend paying after sale prices for Rolex. Second hand will cost you the same as retail for a date just.

Sometimes above retail depending on model and reference

Best bet is going to the Rolex store and paying for the 20-25% deposit and go on the waiting list. Sometimes people will reject their quota and you might land one in a year or so

They are not asking for deposit. Just noting down details for EOI. I tried to offer 10%deposit and they said you pay deposit only when they think you are closer to securing a watch.

You'd think if you're dropping 5 figures on a watch you'd do even a tiny bit of research…

What advantages does this watch have over, say, a train? Which I could also afford.

    Chrono24/eBay is your friend

    • Thanks the tip.

I would never trust ebay for a rolex, too many fakes around.

    • Chrono has used watches. Not my type.

      • It also has watches which are basically BNIB. The only difference is paying more, and they won't have stickers.

    why?

The only guaranteed way is to pay more than retail via the grey market. There are a lot of forum posts about how to 'beat the AD queue' by buttering them with gifts, having a prior purchase history, or even buying it with a lot of less-desirable watches, but none of these strategies are guaranteed. Rolex, AP, and Patek demand has completely outstripped supply. Just be thankful you're 'just' looking at a datejust, and not a stainless steel sports model, where the waiting list is years to maybe never.

Trip to Singapore? Buy it there (good if they got in stock), then you can get some tax discounts?

I reckon Kuala Lumpur would be a better option to buy a watch

      • True, in KL, fake watch sellers right front of the real Rolex store, so OP can get a bargain 😉

        • Err, just walk past them into the real Rolex store?

    • Would be interesting to know if anyone got lucky …. Singapore / KL / Dubai could be good option .
Will try to email the stores there.

      • Singapore will be the same situation. Retail stores won’t sell them to you either.

They do have quite a couple of grey stores which do have stock, let me know if you want some links I recently bought an explorer from over there on a recent trip.

  • But why is this expensive than the other watches? Because of the sticker?

A wise man once said about APPLE post.

    • Limited , swiss made , prestige , list goes on. It just RR of watches.

Put yourself on the waiting list, wait a year or buy it overseas (or at the airport).
Have you bothered to ring around all the retailers in Sydney that stock Rolex?

    • I have called All and visited 2 of the stores in Sydney.
      Same standard reply.

All ADs are out and only stock exhibition pieces. Overseas ADs and airports are in exactly the same boat. What rock have you been living under?

      • This. The rolex store at Crown Melbourne constantly ran out of watches to sell the last few years. New shipments generally get allocated or sold out within days. It's getting ridiculous to have a store at the casino with nothing to sell.

I heard they are closing the store and consolidate it with the chadstone store.

      • Some say money can buy anything, apparently not Rolex happiness ;)

I do not collect watches but have several friends who do.

It's probably easier to win the lottery than to get a Rolex from an authorised dealer. Partly marketing gimmick, partly genuine 'undersupply' and who knows what other games are being played given the massive price uplift in the secondary market.

Scarcity creates desire which in turn fuels passion that leads to irrational price spending at a collective level.
